Norika Fujiwara to wed

Mainichi Daily News has reported that popular Japanese celebrity Norika Fujiwara (藤原紀香) is set to marry 32-year-old comedian Tomonori Jinnai.

The former 1992 Miss Japan who usually takes on the image of a sultry femme fatale is a popular model and a familiar face in the Japanese entertainment scene.  She even has a limited edition of Barbie doll released in her name and is one of the few Japanese actresses who was able to break out of the Japan market because of her ability to speak English.

In 2000, she appeared alongside Aaron Kwok and Wang Lee Hom in the Hong Kong action movie China Strike Force.  And more recently, she did voice-over for Princess Fiona in the Japanese-dubbed versions of Shrek and Shrek 2.

Besides TV dramas and movies, the 35-year-old has also worked in video games, such as the main character Alicia in Project Minerva under PS2.  She has further been making a name for herself outside the entertainment circuit.

Norika served as a goodwill ambassador during the 2002 soccer World Cup hosted by Japan and South Korea.  In addition, she also held a photograph exhibition known as Afghanistan Smiles for the benefit of children in Afghanistan.

The proceeds from the exhibition, as well as donations by the public, have been endowed to the “Save the Children Japan Norika Fujiwara Afghan Fund”, which is being used to support the education of Afghan children.

At the moment, it is said that her marriage will happen early next year but the exact date is not known.
