It is really not enough to rely on my monthly facials to upkeep my appearance. Daily and weekly maintenance are actually more important. Therefore, on top of the daily cleansing and moisturizing, I have been alternating between using a peeling cream and a facial mask to keep my skin looking brighter and hydrated.
Because I am lazy, I will only use products that are easy to apply. Therefore, anything that is hassle free is good for me.
This is the chief reason why I love to use peeling creams most, which is mainly to exfoliate the skin, reduce any buildup of sluggish cells and unclog pores. It does the same thing as a face scrub, but is really more gentle, especially suitable for older skin like mine.
I was first introduced to a peeling cream from Elfi Rauch by my ex-
beautician. I have to say that the product is fantastic, even though the smell is awful and the price is slightly steep. However, since I no longer use her service, I’ve dropped the product and switched to Suisse Programme Peeling Cream, available from Sasa at $52. All I need to do is to apply it on a thoroughly cleansed face and neck, leave it on for 2 minutes or so to dry a little, then rub it off and rinse with water. It’s so gentle I could use it daily if I want. However, because I am lazy and forgetful, I tend to use it twice a week at most, or whenever I need to give an instant glow to my tired skin.
In between using my peeling cream, I also use a gel-based facial mask, to provide my skin with extra hydration.
As opposed to those white sheet mask which I absolutely detest as they’re very troublesome, gel-based facial masks are easy to use. I am currently using the sweet smelling Grape Seed Clarifying Crystals from butyshop. This is a product very popular in Taiwan, based on the newest “Lamellar Lyotropic Liquid Crystal Pseudo Skin” technology and grape seed which contains high purity of grape polyphenols. On top of its anti-oxidant effects, the mask helps to maintain the collagen in skin tissue and gives it added elasticity and refined texture.
What I do is to apply a thick layer over my cleansed face and neck, leave it for about 15 minutes or so, then wash off with water. I can also choose to use it as a rehydrating sleep mask by applying a thin layer over my face and neck before going to bed. And I have to say that my skin definitely feels tauter and brighter after each application.
Price for this product is S$55 for a big 265gm tub but butyshop frequently run promotions on their products, like the current 30% discount on all their facial masks this month.

where does the facial gel mask come in between those four steps.
Jia: It’s to be used after cleansing, wash off with water after 15 mins then you can tone, apply serum and moisturize as per normal. Alternatively, you can apply a thin layer and then go to sleep. In this case, no need to apply any other products.
However, not knowing your skin type, I advice you to try the product on your face as a normal mask first. If you’re fine with it a couple of times, then explore using it as a sleep mask. This is cos some masks can break certain skin types out if left for too long.
