Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion
Tuesday, 16 January 2007I’m enjoying my very first perk of being an editor of a beauty blog. Receiving free samples of great skincare products to review! And they come all the way from United States! Lovely isn’t it? Heh.
Honestly, I had no idea what Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion was when I was asked to review. I had thought it was some handcream. But it apparently isn’t. When I received the samples, I realised that it is a lotion not just for the hands, but also for the face and body. I was even more excited when I saw these words printed on the package.
Hypoallergenic, paraben free, non-comedogenic, no animal testing, the finest natural ingredients.
Sounds good! I was however a bit worried that the lotion could be very rich and perhaps more suitable for people living in colder climate countries because the words on the pack also said: Far more effective for dry skin than mere moisturizing lotions or protective creams. Do not apply entire contents in one use. But I was in for a surprise.
The lotion wasn’t at all rich even when I applied them generously all over my neck, hands and legs. In fact, it was really light and penetrated almost immediately into my skin and there was no greasy feeling afterwards. Yet, I could feel a protective layer over my skin.
I read up a bit more on their website and realised the reasons for that feeling.
Shielding lotion is a lotion that forms a protective barrier on the skin and keeps out irritants and chemicals. It also allows the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better. It is a big advantage that shielding lotions are light and go on without a greasy mess.
Unlike a conventional lotion which you have to reapply it regularly to get the benefit because it will come off when you rub your hands or wash them, a shielding lotion bonds with the skin and lasts for at least four hours. And because it is non-comedogenic, it protects your skin without clogging the pores, hence allowing the skin to breathe and won’t promote acne.
Apparently, people who have eczema, psoriasis and thyroid have also been satisifed with this lotion and wrote testimonials of how it has helped some of their skin problems, other than just moisturizing. You can read all about it at Skin MD Natural.
Having used the lotion for a few days now, I am quite convinced of its product benefits. There is a definite visible difference in using this shielding lotion compared to the other body lotions I’ve been using. In particular, I like the fact that it is such a natural formula with a light scent and leaves no mess on my skin or clothes, unlike other heavier creams. At the same time, it is hydrating enough for my skin and leaves it soothed and supple. However, I have to qualify that I have not used the lotion on my face though, for the simple reason that I like to keep whatever I use on my face exclusive from what I use on my body.
Okay, my gripe is that the lotion isn’t readily available off our retail counters and I’ve to wait for it to be shipped from the States. On top of the cost of the 4oz bottle which is US$25, I would have to incur an additional US$7.95 for international shipping charges. But I note the company is waiving that shipping cost for orders of 2 bottles or more. So it would make sense to consolidate orders in order to enjoy that benefit.
