Shiseido Sun Protection Lotion

I have moved on from my favourite SkinCeuticals Physical UV Defense SPF30 to using Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion with SPF34 PA++ since last month and have been quite happy with it so far.

This is a rather rich nourishing sun care lotion for the face and comes out in a milky fluidy texture.  At first I was worried about it being overly greasy because it does feel so on the fingers.  But it absorbs well into my skin after a while, is not sticky, yet gives me a matte finishing and works as a great primer!   I sometimes get a bit of breakout when the lotion is too rich for me but this one agreed with my skin totally and gave me no trouble.   In fact, my T-zone didn’t feel too oily after using this particular sun lotion.  In addition, it leaves no white cast, unlike my previous SkinCeuticals sunblock.

Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion with SPF34 PA++  is water-resistant, comes with both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which provides adequate protection according to the following rating compiled by Environmental Protection Agency.

It also has a light fragrance and another plus point about this particular lotion is that I can clean it off with my current cleanser.  If I had bought the one with SPF 55 PA++,  I would need a special cleanser from Shiseido to do the job.

In using this lotion however,  I need to remember is to shake the bottle every time before application.  I also need to be careful not to over squirt because of the fluid texture.

Price wise, this lotion is fairly reasonable.  I paid S$50 for the 100ml bottle but because of the texture, I figure I don’t need to use a lot of it compared to a cream so this should last me quite awhile.

My only problem right now is that not knowing what to do with my Fyrinnae Underthere Face Primer anymore because this Shiseido lotion by itself already works so well with my foundation.

* Edit: After using this for a longer period of time, I find it does make my skin a tad oiler unfortunately.  Perhaps it’s the weather because it has definitely turned hotter.

  1. 4.5 ratings??? Man, this must be good!

DR: Yes, it’s quite good. I now like it more than my Skinceuticals. I heard their SPF 55+ is very good…award winning somemore.

  2. I have been using Shiseido “Ultimate sun protection lotion” spf 55 for about 2 years now and that was hard to wash off. I tried switching to the Extra Smooth Sun Protectin Cream SPF 36 but had the hardest time washing it off as well. Plus, cleansing oil makes me break out. You say that the Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion with SPF34 PA++ comes off with your current cleanser. What cleanser do you use?

Lolita: I can use it with any cleanser. The SA told me that the higher formulations come with special cleansers, which is why I didn’t get them.

  3. Any idea about the pricing of the SPF 50 sunblocks? :)

Jadetive: I’m not so sure now. Have not been checking for updates…

  4. Not true about needing special cleansers. The women @ the Shisedo counter are notorious for trying to upsell. You just need any cleanser rated to remove sunscreens with physical barriers (titanium dioxide, etc) clinique take the day off cleansing balm specifically mentions this quality, shisedo the clean cleanser works too, or you can use a cleansing oil followed by your normal cleanser.
