I think by now, there’s no doubt that I’m also a lip balm-aholic. I like to try out different brands, especially those that are not too popular or not in the mass market. So this already gives you a good explanation of why I bought Eau Thermale Avene Cold Cream Lip Balm.
This lip balm is surprisingly expensive. S$17.90 for the 4g stick. But I bought it with the hand cream at a promotional pricing so it didn’t cost me THAT much. I can imagine why they needed to repackage it for selling. At that kind of price, it can never be popular. Even people with sensitive skin will look elsewhere because there are certainly many hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic lip balms going for a fraction of that price. And seriously, how much does Avene thermal spring water cost?
Okay, enough gripes about the price. Let’s discuss the product quality.
I would say this is above average. Because of its Avene Cold cream plus Vitamins E and F, it does help to nourish and hydrate my lips with a smooth lipid film. I actually like the delicate soothing feel even though it leaves a white cast. Not waxy unlike those lip balms that contain petrolateum. But it doesn’t work that well under my lipstick, so I only use this at night before going to bed.
In terms of fragrance, it’s very light and pleasant so that’s a plus. Packaging wise, it’s bulkier than the usual lip balm tubes and the colour of the lip balm is actually white which is unusual. That probably accounts for the white cast.
I think by all account, this is a lip balm with good ingredients. But, I’ll not be getting it again. Especially not when I have so many other interesting choices at lower prices.

i think this works better than the ROC lip balm. ROC stick form lip balm tends to melt and becomes squishy after a while. Avene maintans the firmness.
imp: Yikes! That ROC lip balm sounds horrible.
Not only Avene, brands like Vichy & La-Roche Posay lip balms also cost around this price. Wonder if it sells well?
Hey! Question- You said that there are many other Non-comedogenic lip balms out there? I have been looking for some and haven’t been able to find any except this Cold Cream from Avene, which other brands do you know of that are Non-comedogenic? Thanks in advance!
If I’m not wrong, Clarins HydraQuench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm is non-comedogenic. Lancome Aqua Fusion Lèvres Lip Balm SPF 8 is also and Lip Ice lip balms too. Kinerase and Almay also have something I think…Another one is Anthony that I’ve read but never seen the product before.
