Despite the rave reviews on L’Occitane Immortelle Very Precious Fluid SPF40, I hesitated to buy this right at the beginning. Reason is because it only comes with 12% of Titanium Dioxide and contains no Zinc Oxide, both of which are key ingredients I look for in sunblocks.
Formulated with highly concentrated, organic Immortelle essential oil with anti-wrinkle, firming and regenerating properties, the fluid is supposed to contain high UV filters to effectively protect the skin from UVB and UVA rays, as well as defend against premature aging and the development of new pigmentation marks.
However after using it for more than a month now, I still have reservations about this product in terms of its ability to effectively block out those harmful rays. It isn’t really the fault of the product but rather, due to my initial psychological barrier because of the lack of Zinc Oxide even though Titanium Dioxide does offer considerable protection according to the following rating compiled by Environmental Protection Agency.
While I haven’t noticed that the mulberry extract contained within this Very Precious Fluid has helped to reduce the appearance of pigmentation marks, I haven’t seen any new marks either. So the product must be doing something right.
Texture wise, this is a lightweight fluid and leaves no unsightly white cast. I like the fact that it’s not oily and doesn’t interfere with my makeup, even after a layer of the Precious Fluid. I believe that’s probably why it’s so popular.
Application is a breeze (just remember to shake well) and the fragrance is a plus. I have to say that overall, my skin tone is brightened, probably as a result of using this product along with the other Immortelle range.
L’Occitane Very Precious Fluid SPF40 comes in a 30ml pump bottle and retails at S$84 and is also available at StrawberryNET.com. If you’re indoors most of the time and only needs to step out in the sun momentarily like for lunch, then this product should be able to give you enough protection.

How would this compare with the Shiseido’s sunscreen you recommended a while ago? BTW, read up a bit on titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and it appears that the former might be carcinogenic but well, findings are not firm.
DR: Texture wise I prefer L’Occitane’s. The Shiseido is good but after more than a month of application, I noticed my skin was rather oily which is why I switched. And also why I now prefer to write reviews after a longer usage of the product. But I use Shiseido when I have to be under the sun for a longer time cos it has both Titanium and Zinc.
I’m not surprised about what you read about Titanium. These are afterall chemical. But I can’t see a better alternative. Those new sunblock with new inventions are also chemical based. Plus I’m skeptical about natural stuff for sunblock. Not sure if they provide sufficient coverage. Btw, it was my aesthetic doc who told me to look out for these 2 ingredients.
Hey… I can see you are a L’Occitane’s fan. I have been changing sun blocks every now and then. Somehow, I couldn’t stop those freckles from forming
Doris: Yup, me too. I think it’s cos of our skin type…
Hmm… I would love to try this but for the price
Honestly, I never thought to look in L’Occitane for facial products. Thanks for the heads up!
ParisB: I like most of their stuff. Some of them are great for me.
Hello there, have been reading your reviews on beauty products. They are great! I have four Loccitane VIP stamps and are expiring soon. I find it a waste to let go like that. I have been looking around for people to transfer the stamps to but to no avail. Would you be interested?
Happyfeet: Hey thanks for your gesture. Really nice of you to ask me. But I won’t need them now…
No problemo! I’ll just continue to look around…….
Happyfeet: Hey, glad you took that in good light…
I kind of feel apologetic to turn down your kind gesture actually…
Hahahaha! I know what you mean. No worries really!
Happyfeet:
i was just wondering, how this product differs from the biotherm spf50 protective uv(the name is so long to type) – it’s 30ml’s n mush more cheaper, what about the texture?
n have u tried kiehls spf50?
I haven’t tried Biotherm’s products so I can’t compare. Kiehl’s has got 2 sunscreens I’ve tried. You can read my review here:

In terms of protection, Kiehl’s would be better because of the sun protection ingredients used. Texture wise is comparable to L’Occitane’s…maybe less greasy.
