Making up for missed beauty sleep

While I know that getting enough sleep is the best way to maintain beauty, I haven’t been doing enough of that activity.  On average, I sleep about five hours per night and that’s certainly way below the recommended eight.  As my sleep debt mounts, I definitely don’t look or feel good.

We all know that sleep loss exacts a toll on the mind as well as the body, affecting our memory and cognitive ability.  Not to mention our looks!  But the good news is that I can apparently counter the effects of chronic sleep loss with a simple strategy offered by Harvard Women’s Health Watch

The suggestion is that if we’ve missed some hours of sleep over one week, make up for it over the weekend and the following week.  If we’ve missed sleep for a longer period, we can also make it up but it could take a few weeks to repay the debt.  A useful suggestion is to plan a break with a light schedule, and sleep every night until we wake naturally. And once we’ve determined how much sleep we need, try to factor it into our daily schedule.

Sounds rather easy isn’t it?  Of course, the key is to find the time to sleep more hours.  Speaking of time, I’ve shared a tip by Barbie Hsu sometime ago that the optimum time to sleep is between 11 pm and 3 am as that’s the best time for the body to rejuvenate.  She recommended sleeping during that optimum time for a week and the dark circles and bags will disappear.

Well, I’ve actually had the luxury of trying that out for awhile and I have to say it’s quite true.  My dark circles did diminish substantially and as a whole, I did look more youthful.

So I should really try to sleep more again, even if it’s just during the weekends.  Especially so if I want to reap the beauty benefits!

  1. I have a problem. Whenever i sleep at 11pm..i wake up at 4am. Every single time! I’ll end up feeling ultra mabok as a result.

Angelia: Probably your internal clock…so I suppose it’s better for you to sleep later to get enough rest.

  2. So are you saying we need as much sleep as possible according to our body but the most important thing to remember is go to sleep before 11pm?
