Clearasil may not be so clear
Friday, 31 August 2007For those using Clearasil, a popular brand of young skin care and acne medication, you might want to take note of the following news from Safe Cosmetics Organisation:
Clearasil Total Control Gentle Cleansing Wipes sold in the United States contain sodium methylparaben, which has been banned in cosmetics by the European Union, as well as ceteareth-20 and ceteareth-12, two ingredients that are not safe for use on injured or damaged skin (including acne, ironically). Other ingredients in Clearasil products have been linked to cancer, allergies and skin and nervous system toxicity.
I haven’t seen those said wipes at our pharmacies or marts so am not sure how we’re exposed but it does sound quite worrying. And you might also want to know that the article also cited that brands like Neutrogena, Oxy and Clean & Clear are also failing Safe Personal Care Products Manufacturing 101.
