We all know green tea is a healthy drink but did you know that it can also work wonder when applied directly to the skin?
Various clinical research have shown that the potent antioxidants found in green tea help skin resist external pollutants, thereby slowing down ageing. The tea extract when applied, can improve the elasticity of the skin and even the leaves can be used as a gentle exfoliant, guaranteed to give your skin a healthy glow.
As such, increasingly more skincare range have included products using green tea extract. Products like ORIKI Green Tea Clay Mask for example, a special clay formulation which contains a potent blend of botanical antioxidants and clay for cleansing of the pores. According to ORIKI Cosmeceuticals which targets Asian, Mediterranean and other Olive skin types, this product helps to purify and refine the skin for a smoother texture when used overtime.
In fact, green tea has been said to increase the effectiveness of sunscreen as it protects against photo-aging and photo-damage caused by ultraviolet rays, and also brings down inflammation caused by sun damage. Additionally, green tea polyphenols can help with skin disorders, like rosacea, psoriasis and warts.
However, it has to be known that the beneficial effects of green tea on the skin are much higher when applied topically rather than consumed as a drink. So if you like, you can chill a bottle of green tea and use it as a toner for your skin. Or get green tea powder, mix it with egg white and apply as a mask.
But if you’re lazy, you can always rely on commercially available skincare range which includes green tea extract.
