MAC Cosmetics has just officially launched the A Mei Collection using Mandarin pop diva A-Mei or Zhang Hui-Mei (張惠妹). Described as a Taiwanese pop sensation on the official website, it is said that the yin-yang of A-Mei’s personality are celebrated in this iconic signature colour collection.
Bold for her rocker side. Low-key and neutral for those soft pop moods. This is A Mei, in all her shades – up close and personal.
I like A-Mei quite a bit. She’s got strong vocals, is talented and comes across as having a good sense of humor from the various interviews she has granted to the media. But geez, I really don’t like this look of hers here. I know she is an ethnic Puyuma from Taiwan and that explains why the collection has been designed to include the traditional tribal needlework pattern. Promoting a collection using the tribal angle is interesting but you see, the A-Mei I know and the A-Mei I adore is really hip and somehow this image just doesn’t cut it for her. The eye makeup is gorgeous but the whole color combination with the ethnic headband is just too tacky to me.
Still, I have to agree that the image is indeed outstanding and already, there’s quite a bit of buzz on the collection consisting of A-Mei: 3 Neutral Eyes, A-Mei: 3 Bold Eyes, MAC For A Mei Lipstick and MAC For A Mei Lipglass.
And if I’m not wrong, A Mei is the second Asian celebrity who has been picked for a MAC collection. The other was Korean Singer Bada.
So tacky or not, I still say, you go A-Mei!

I love A*Mei! Been a fan since her very first album 10 years ago.
Honestly, I’ve seen A*Mei in her tribal wear before, afterall she’s a tribal princess, but the eye make-up here doesn’t really blend… But it’s A*Mei, so she still looks gorgeous!
gorgeous face she has!
