Ruffles and frills from the 1980s
Sunday, 8 June 2008If you’re a regular here, you’ll know by now that weekend is the time I feature my fashion finds. But today, I’m a bit tired of that because I can’t find anything inspiring. So I thought I’ll share something personal instead.
These are sketches I did on fashion way back in 1982. A very long time ago yes! I enjoyed doodling back then and I did this for fun, and to get them published in a local newspaper. I will admit honestly that I knew nothing about fashion then and have no training. In fact if you look at some of these designs now, you’ll probably wonder if they’re even wearable.
But, did you also noticed that I’ve incorporated a lot of ruffles and frills in my design? Well, not a surprise since ruffles, frills, flounces, bows and laces were fashion features from the 1980s! I now even noticed I’ve drawn something of a tassel which was hung as an accessory on the last sketch of the model in the ruffle dress. And yes, I deliberately post a picture of the TFNC Ruffle Jersey Boobtube Dress I found at ASOS to show how similar it is to the last sketch.
Anyway, it’s no secret that fashion trends are really cyclical. What goes around comes around!

Wow! Those look pretty designer to my untrained eyes
Maybe its a case of a future prediction of that Asos dress?
ParisB: Haha…I think not. But thanks for the positive comments!
