I got this Buckwheat Loose Powder from SkinFood quite awhile back. Used it a couple of times and plain forgot about it. It’s a fairly fine loose powder with above average oil control. However, as with all loose powder, you’ll need to use it with a foundation or makeup base to get sufficient coverage. So, being lazy, I stopped using it after a few applications. In addition, I was introduced to mineral makeup and found the latter better performing.
The buckwheat oil in SkinFood Buckwheat Loose Powder helps to keep the makeup long lasting. In fact, I sometimes use it on its own just to keep my face matt and shine free and it does work well. However, although the powder is fine and silky, the coverage is too sheer on its own.
I have no idea what’s the ingredient for this loose powder but it’s likely to have talc because it feels quite dry on my skin. The fragrance, although sweet smelling, was something I didn’t quite like because it came across too strong for me. And unlike mineral makeup or some compact foundation powder, SkinFood Buckwheat Loose Powder does not provide SPF protection.
I bought this for about S$18 but the last I checked, the price has gone up to S$22. Still, it’s fairly reasonably priced and does perform fairly well for a loose powder. Plus, the packaging is really pretty!

and to my amazement they commented that kaolin clay does not aid in drawing out impurities from our skin .. hw true is this .. and also do u noe if any mask contains bentonite or french green clay ?? thanks
sorry sesame not sure whether is there a duplicate cos i cannot see my comment being posted..
anyway do u know any site which i can buy bentonite clay or fuller’s earth clay .. i wanna diy mask.. thanks thanks
Miyo: Hey, no worries. I’ve got such a potent anti-spam plugin it sometimes catches my own comments as spam!
I understand some ladies at Flowerpod forum get their clays from this source: yours-essentially.blogspot.com. They carry the clays you’ve indicated. Perhaps you can also raise your concern about kaolin clay with them. They’re probably more knowledgeable about these stuff.
thank you very much… i am soooo happy to have found u online .. u are a great HELP. anyway.. do u have any recommendations such as supplements to regulate hormones??? is it omega 3 or evening primrose oil?
.. sorry to bother u … THANKS!
miyo: You’re welcome! Glad you found some of the info useful. Don’t worry about asking…just that sometimes I can’t get to reply as quickly. About supplements to regulate hormones, ah no, I’m not familiar but if you’re talking about helping with PMS, then I heard evening primrose oil is good. But I haven’t taken this. For me, I take milk on a regular basis. I find it helps to reduce PMS symptoms. In fact, I got an article written sometime ago. It’s here if you want to check it.
I take Omega 3-6-9 for general well-being and also to keep my skin, hair and nails healthy. But if you take Omega stuff, look for those distill formula. Nordic Naturals is a brand I’m using for myself and my son.

Hi! I love reading your site! I was just wondering how does this skinfood loose powder compare to higher end counter brands? thanks
Qian: Hi! Hmm, I’m stumped here cos a bit hard for me to comment in terms of comparison since I don’t use loose powder from other brands at the moment. The last one I used was years ago and I cannot remember now.
Hey there, in your review of Buckwheat Skin Food Poweder, you mentioned that you sometimes use buckwheat oil on its own; do you know wher I can find some? I’ve searched online to no avail, but I would love to try it for it’s mattifying properties. Thank you!
I was referring to the powder and not the oil. I mentioned the oil in relation to how it keeps the makeup in place. Sorry for the confusion.
I just got a tub of this, and I hate the smell too. Smells like grandmother’s perfume
Grandmother’s perfume…what a description! Haha…
hi! just one question please. is this powder translucent or white? sounds like a good product for my oil face.
thanks.
It’s translucent.
