Preview: L’Occitane Do Brasil Sunscreen
Friday, 20 June 2008I haven’t been very excited with L’Occitane of late but their new collection called L’Occitane Buriti do Brasil, a new natural sun care line which also includes 100% mineral sunscreen products to provide UVA/UVB protection certainly grabbed my attention. In fact, I dropped by their store to check up earlier but found that they will only be available in the Singapore stores next month.
Out of the product range, the Daily UV Veil High Protection SPF30 and Sun Cream High Protection SPF30 look like something I can use for my face and my body. But I was somewhat disappointed to learn that like the L’occitane Immortelle Very Precious Fluid SPF40, the key sunscreen ingredient used is Titanium Dioxide. I was hoping for Zinc Oxide which provides the most extensive UVA and UVB protection.
Still, L’Occitane do Brasil sunscreens look pretty promising because they contain the magic sun care ingredient Buriti with incredibly concentrated antioxidant beta-carotene to protect the skin from photo-ageing.
In Brazilian indigenous language, “Buri-ti” means “tree of life”. From this palm tree’s fruit, a sunny-coloured oil is extracted, which contains a high concentration of antioxidant beta-carotene, 3 times more than a carrot! It efficiently protects skin from photo-aging and dehydration. It is this USDA-certified organic oil which is used in all the protective products, combined with a new generation of 100% mineral sunscreens (titanium dioxide micronized and micro-dispersed) for an homogeneous, efficient and pleasurable protection. In addition, what’s also noteworthy is that L’Occitane do Brasil sunscreen products do not contain alcohol or other chemical filters and are perfumed with non-photosensitising fragrance, making them safe even for children.
According to the SA I spoke to at the Ngee Ann City outlet, the price range is around S$50 or so. Well, we’ll see…but you’ll can be sure I’ll be checking out the products when they’re launched here next month.
