Is it good to wash our face with cold water?
Monday, 14 July 2008Is it better to wash your face with cold water?
Here are some reasons why people find washing with cold water beneficial:
- it closes pores
- it makes blood vessels constrict
- aid to reduce swelling & appearance of undereye dark circles
However, not everyone agree on using cold water to wash their face. Here’s why:
- cannot wash away dirt and oil
- can cause broken capillaries
As the cold water drives the blood with increased force through the system, it flushes the capillaries in the tissues and cleanses them… (source)
Although I think using cold water to wash our faces does not close the pores (at least not permanently) since pore sizes are determined by genetics, but I do like to use it at the end after I have washed my face thoroughly with warm water.
Some experts have recommended that those with oily skin should wash their face with warm or even hot water. While I agree that warm water is good to dissolve the embedded sebum and dirt but the temperature shouldn’t be too hot. First of all, it isn’t comfortable and second, hot water is supposed to dry skin out overtime and can also cause broken capillaries.
So do you wash your face in cold, warm or hot water?

I start off washing my face using my cleasner with warm water, and finishing with icy cold water. It really helped me cause my skin has actually improved since I started breaking out. Plus, I love the feeling of my skin tingling after. It feels very invigorating. Nice article dear.
Dee: I try to rinse off with cold water when I can remember. I might skip the process if I’m rushed for time. But I like the feeling. Like you mentioned, it’s invigorating!

As long as the water isn’t too cold, it shouldn’t be a problem.
