Review: Organic Surge Natural Shower Gels
Thursday, 17 July 2008Even though both shower gel performs the same, I much prefer the Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot Shower Gel because it is definitely more pleasing to my olfactory glands. I was actually disappointed with how the Organic Surge Lavender & Geranium Shower Gel turned out in terms of smell.
Pleasant subtle scent
On top of Lavender and Garanium extracts, the other key ingredients Of Organic Surge Lavender & Geranium Shower Gel were listed as Rosemary, Lemon, Lime, Sweet Corn, Palm Kernal Oil, Natural Vitamin E and Multivitamins. The scent is actually odd and I really cannot tell that it contains any sweet smelling Lavender or glorious Geranium.
On the other hand, Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot gives a pleasant scent with key ingredients like Bergamot, Sweet Orange, Sweet Corn, Palm Kernal Oil, Natural Vitamin E and Multivitamins. However, don’t expect the sort of hit-me-in-the-face citrus smell as the Bergamot scent is quite subtle.
Interesting ingredients
Like the rest of Organic Surge’s products, both the shower gels do not contain Parabens or SLS. In place, they use Sorbic Acid as preservative and Lauryl Glucoside to act as the natural foaming agent. Interesting too, the shower gels also contain Lactic Acid, which is fermented milk that Cleopatra is said to have bathed in to improve her complexion because of its ability to exfoliate and soften the skin. Other than this, most of the other ingredients look natural to me and the only one of concern is Disodium EDTA which I’ve read is considered toxic.
Highly moisturizing
I would say the Organic Surge shower gels clean pretty well, leaving my skin soft afterwards. But what I noticed was that the shower gels leave this “film” over my skin and no matter how long I rinse, it doesn’t come off. When I checked the ingredient listing on the packaging, there are a couple of versions of coconut oil listed. It’s probably that plus the Palm Kernal Oil that are contributing to the moisturizing factor. Since coconut oil is considered as a fairly highly pore clogging ingredient, this might be a concern to those who are proned to body acne.
Comparison with Sukin Organic Botanical Body Wash
Because I’m also using Sukin Organic Botanical Body Wash, I couldn’t help but compared the two brands especially since they were both quite alike in terms of positioning.
On the whole, Organic Surge range cleans a tad better especially when it comes to getting rid of excess sebum. The product is also more interesting in terms of packaging and choices. Besides Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot Shower Gel and Organic Surge Lavender & Geranium Shower Gel, you can also pick up the Organic Surge Ocean Fresh Shower Gel. However, Sukin Botanical Body Wash certainly scores on the price factor. As for smell, while I’ve grown to like Sukin’s, I do like the subtle pick-me-up freshness I get from Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot.
Summary
The Organic Surge range of shower gels are worth a try if you’re looking for an affordable line of body and bath products using mostly natural ingredients. Each cost S$13.90 and you can find it readily at some Guardian outlets. However, if you’re particular about the smell like I do, then I definitely recommend you to pick up Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot Shower Gel.

Hi there. My name is Christie Amato and I am a consumer that is making
approximately 50 beauty gift baskets for an upcoming wedding shower. I’d
like to put products in the baskets that I stand behind and that I have
sampled myself and think they are great! Is there any way that you would be
able to send me a small sample of what your best products are before I
decide to purchase anything? I’d be happy to pay for the shipping, if that
makes things any easier for you.
Thanks in advance and have a great day-Christie Amato (PA)
Christie: Hi. I think you’ve misunderstood. Viva Woman does not represent any products. This is a beauty blog where products are reviewed.

regarding lactic acid- it’s not from milk, at least not in this case, since organic surge is vegan

Christie Amato is now making baskets for all kinds of people, apparently. Noone works the freebie ho stroll like her! She is still sending the same email to countless soapers/candlemakers trying to get free product. Beware!
