I added it to my toothpaste so there's lessens the friction somewhat. You can add water, just don't dilute it too much. And don't do this everyday...it might hurt your gums long term. Give some break. I tried it almost everyday for a week then slowed down to just once or twice a week. Btw, the smell of baking soda without toothpaste is another story. Not a nice one that is...
