NARS Lip Products

I have to say that the NARS lip products are very interesting aesthetic wise. Although it’s just black, but I love the almost velvety feel of the NARS Lipstick cover. In fact, I almost couldn’t bear to use it. And the NARS Lip Lacquer I received is definitely too pretty in terms of its color. On my lips however, I definitely love the NARS Lipstick more.

NARS Lipstick in Sheer Mitzi
NARS Lipstick comes in a wide selection of shades in satin, semi-matt and sheer. I didn’t pick Mitzi in sheer but the color suits me perfectly. It’s a translucent formula that is almost nude, mind you. So if you’re looking for a rich lip color, then this wouldn’t fit you. But because I like the natural look, so a nude minimalist sort of color works well for me. The vitamin E makes it very moisturizing so I don’t need to use a lip balm prior to applying this lipstick. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t dry or flake up on me. Definitely my current favorite for the moment!

NARS Lip Lacquer in Hot Wired
On the other hand, while I like the look of NARS Lip Lacquer in Hot Wired, but I reckon the pretty fuchsia is too bright for my pale skin. Wearing it in the night is probably better. It’s described as a high shine formula with sheer pigments of color. Indeed. I found it easier to apply on top of a lip balm as it is quite sticky to apply on its own with my finger. Perhaps using a lip brush might be easier though. Once on the lips however, it is glossy without being overly sticky like a lip gloss. Product wise, I think this lip lacquer is fine but I definitely need to get use to the color. If I have a choice, I’ll probably would have picked Sweet Charity, Vagabond or Butterfield 8 over this.

Summary
NARS lip products seem to have quite a following. Ratings at Makeupalley are at least 3.5 and above out of 5. Personally, I wouldn’t mind trying out more of their lipsticks when I get the chance again! And for those in Singapore, you can find NARS products at True Colors, Ngee Ann City B1-13A.

*Update: It seems NARS is no longer available at True Colors although it is still reflected on their website at www.truecolours.com.sg

    Hi!!

i went to True Colors and they say they no longer carry NARS (T_T)

yukifumi: They don’t? Oh dear. When did they discontinue because they still have it on their website. Okay, no worries. I believe the new Sephora coming up in Taka would have it. Let’s cross our fingers.

There’s a Sephora coming up in Takashimaya?! *faints* I’m SO jealous…. luckily I live just across the causeway (not literally, but you get the idea) ;)

YZ: Heh. We actually already have a mini Sephora at Scotts Road but it’s just a small corner at the Duty Free section. The bigger one is coming up at Taka but I don’t know when exactly. It’s easy for you to come down! Good thing Singapore is small. ;)

i din know that we even have a mini Sephora @ Scotts Road!! Gonna take a look asap. Can’t wait for the one @ Takashimaya. Thanks for your info!!

yukifumi: Yes, there is a little counter at DFS, next to Royal Plaza Hotel at Scotts Road. But last I saw, they only have their in-house brands. So got to wait for the big one to be up if we want the other brands.

Have you tried Bobbi Brown lipsticks? My favorite from hers is the rum raisin color, goes on nicely and not overly bright or dull. Anyway, you mentioned in other lip posts about ‘exfoliating’ the lips, can you expound upon that or send me in the right direction for more info, my lips constantly peel, to the point of bleeding a bit, I’m using John Masters which is great but not great with lipstick, but still, I’m peeling and wondered what the ‘exfoliating’ thing meant? Thanks! :)

cowsandlemonade: Hi, I have not tried Bobbi Brown’s lipsticks or any of her cosmetics. I wish I have the chance in future.

For exfoliating the lips, it works the same as exfoliating the skin…except that the lips is more delicate so normal facial exfoliator don’t work. We need to rub away the top dead skin on the lips otherwise you’ll find that your lips become flaky after awhile when you use lipstick or even lipbalm. There are some products on the market to do the job eg. Lipscription from Benefits but it really uses AHA and Jojoba Beads.

You can also try using a toothbrush to brush your lips. I tried that but didn’t find it great for me.

I’ve been to the sephora store in Taka but I didn’t see any Nars products there. Maybe I’m too awed by the vast collection of make up to be seen.

I hope to get a lipstick & blusher from Nars. I bought my blusher last year in Sydney.

Nora: No NARS at Sephora here. They don’t carry it…not yet.
