Mineral Makeup: Maybelline Pure Mineral

Maybelline Pure Mineral

I hardly look at Maybelline products but I came across information on the Maybelline Pure Mineral line which is a new line of mineral makeup while going through their China and Japanese websites. This looks to be a new release which I haven’t seen in Singapore yet. That, or I am so darn blind.

The packaging is quite attractive, going by the pictures alone. In the US, the line is known as Mineral Power instead of Pure Mineral and their Natural Perfecting Powder Foundation comes in 8 shades instead of the 6 shades under Pure Mineral.

I couldn’t find a lot of information about the ingredients online but I did read that the product comes with micro-minerals and 100% natural mica and is preservative-free, talc-free, oil-free and fragrance-free. However, it does not include 100% natural minerals as there are a couple of non-mineral ingredients and hence, is unlike the mineral makeup we’re used to. And at MakeupAlley, the product averaged 3.3 rating out of 5 from 147 reviewers.

Besides the powder foundation, Maybelline has also introduced a blush, a liquid mineral foundation, a concealer, a finishing veil pressed powder and a mineral lipstick (looks interesting!) However, it doesn’t look like they have the full works under Pure Mineral as I only saw the blush and liquid mineral foundation at the China website. I would love to give their mineral lipstick a test run because the reviews at MakeupAlley were pretty good in general.

As for the foundation, I’m not too sure. While the packaging looks interesting, I would like to have a look at the ingredients before deciding if they’re even pure. Also, the price point is also a major consideration. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait for the release. Meanwhile, here’s the CM featuring Zhang Ziyi for Maybelline Pure Mineral.

1st to commend! =) Thank you very much for sharing with us this useful information about the mineral make-ups. I’ve started learning about this products like recently too as I’ve grown fond to it’s products because of the results. It doesn’t create a heavy feeling and the results always looks good!
Coz right now, I’m suffering from acne so am not using makeup too often…unless neccessary.

Oh btw, this is the website where I learn about the products ingredients.
    http://www.everyminerals.com

    Hope it helps =)

GabrielLe: Hey, that’s what I’m currently using too! It took me a while to get to the right shade. Their products are much loved by many. And their ingredients are natural.

  2. GabrielLe says:

i’m sorry for the typo-error, the actualy website should be http://www.everydayminerals.com

  3. Tine says:

This is on sale in Australia. I find it only so so. And the brush they provide with the foundation is utterly rubbish :p

Tine: The brush is no good? Sounds like the L’oreal one then.

  4. astrorainfall @ beauty box says:

Wow, mineral makeup for ordinary folks is available. It actually looks quite good.

Might try it and keep my previous foundation brush, since I’m heading Sydney for Xmas ? Hope they have my shade.

astrorainfall: Yeah it does! Many of the drugstore brands are jumping on the mineral makeup race but unfortunately, many of these are not 100% mineral based.

  5. Ms. Blacklace says:

Wow… Maybelline jumped in the mineral bandwagon too. Lol…

Ms Blacklace: Yup, they can’t afford to miss the market share…

  6. SimpleMe says:

In Holland we already have this product. I use Everyday Minerals and LOVE it! Good ingredients too =)

  7. Florence says:

Everyday minerals doesn’t works on me.After half day, it become oxidize.Currently I am using Lauress and Joppa.I love both of them.:)

Florence: I’ve heard many saying the same thing about EM. I have the same problem with some of them if my face is excessively greasy but the intensive range works for me now.

  8. fwy says:

Loreal & Revlon has their own versions too but I was told these cheaper brands has very lousy brushes.

  9. Heather says:

I agree that Loreal & Revlon brushes suck big time. The body shop ladies explained to me that it is recommended the mineral make up comes with with special brushes, which are more dense (thicker) than normal brushes, for even applications. So i held my big synthetic powder brushed by the bristles ( very near to the tip) to achieve the same effect.

Heather: Kabuki brushes are best for mineral makeup application. But if yours is a foundation brush, it should be able to do the job too!

  10. Lori says:

I’ve tried a few different mineral foundation products, one being bare essentials. After using this product a couple of times, I noticed my face breaking out. I did some research and there’s an ingredient present in most mineral make up called bismuth oxychloride. It has the same chemical properties of arsenic and is a cheap filler that cosmetic companies use. I’m currently using Maybelline Pure Minerals and love it, i’ve had no problems what so ever.

Lori: Maybelline Pure Minerals contain bismuth oxychloride as well. Maybe this is not the ingredient that irritated your skin under Bare Essentials.

  11. Lori says:

Thanks for telling me that. I couldn’t find the ingedients online for Maybelline Pure Minerals. I was told at the store that it didnt contain that ingredient. Any case, this is the only one that hasn’t broken out my skin, so I think i’ll stick with it.

Lori: Though it has the ingredient, the formulation is different and looks like it agrees with your skin so that’s good. Anyway, if you’re interested, these are the ingredients in Maybelline Pure Minerals obtained from drugstore.com.

Zinc Oxide, Polyethylene, Boron Nitride, Dimethicone, PTFE, Synthetic Wax, Acrylates Copolymer, Lauroyl Lysine, Cetyl Dimethicone, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Trisocetyl Citrate, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, May Contain (+/-):, Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491/Iron Oxides, CI 77007 (Ultramarines)

Got this Maybelline Pure Minerals blush when I was in Singapore. I can say I love it, only that the brush is not working (like L’Oreal). I do agree we have to buy a separated brush (BodyShop has a good one– even though I find its minerals powder isn’t that good and doesn’t worth the high price).
The Maybelline blush on, i like the True Peach shade because it has no glitters (I don’t like glitters and blushes of BodyShop and L’Oreal have them).
But anyway, I read the ingredients and found it has Talc as well.

Dian: Hey, glad the Mabelline blush works well for you. I guess it really depends on individual skin type. Anyway, ditto what you said about glitters. I don’t like them either especially cos my face tends to get oily during the day.

  13. dian says:

yes, those glitters make me look like a disco ball… :p

    Dian: ?

  14. Balwinder says:

I am using the Maybelline brand too because it is the only color that works well on me. I have yellowish skin.

The Maybelline brush feels like a dishwasher scrubber. I tried to use a blusher brush which was soft but it picked up too much powder at one time and wouldn’t spread well on my face.

I tried the Body Shop mineral foundation powder but it was pinkish so didn’t like it. The brush felt good but at $40+ just for brush, it was expensive.

Balwinder: Hey, glad Maybelline is working for you. Yup, totally agree with the brush. I guess with the price they’re offering, it’s hard to get a decent brush. As for TBS, I can’t bring myself to pay that $ for the brush when I can get it much cheaper online but I had no idea that their powder is more pinkish. That wouldn’t suit me either.

Good Post, but cannot view the video ?

  16. Melissa says:

Heyy! I went to the US just last week and I got one of these from there. So far, it has been working pretty well. I have oily skin and this product manages to keep my face pretty much shine-free. Although you might want to get a new Kabuki brush because the one they provide is pretty bad.

  17. sesame says:

That’s good. Yeah, the brush is bad…better to use your own.

  18. Truc Tran says:

I got this one 2 years ago and I have to say the coverage is perfect, it’s smooth and oil-controlling. However, my face started to feel very itchy at about 20 minutes after making up. So i decided to stop using the product even i really like the powder ?
