Review: Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Monday, 5 January 2009I got the Too Faced Shadow Insurance out of impulse while at Sephora. I vaguely recall reading some raves about it on some beauty forums but I hadn’t taken much notice. But I’m quite glad that I bought this because it has kept the eyeshadows I use from fading and creasing too much on my rather oily eyelids.
Although I do not typically apply a lot of eyeshadow, but I do like to dab a dash of color before heading out to work. Depending on what I choose to wear, sometimes I find that I get these ugly eyeshadow creases. With Too Faced Shadow Insurance, this problem is very much reduced.
Makes eyeshadow blending a little difficult
I didn’t say the problem has been eradicated because I still found a little crease by the end of the day on several occasions. I did some experimentation and found that if I apply more of the Shadow Insurance on my eyelid, then the creases do not appear. However, I really don’t like applying too much of this because it makes blending extremely difficult!
Apply just a small dollop on each eyelid
This is usually how much I apply on half my eyelid as the texture while silky and smooth, feels slightly resistant to blending. So I end up taking a longer time to apply my eyeshadow! Fortunately, I don’t apply too much eyeshadow most of the time so this still works. But I’m thinking that it will probably be a lot more difficult to blend if I were to go the full works!
Ingredients for Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Too Faced Shadow Insurance is really a silicone-based eyeshadow primer that contains:
Isododecane,Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Glyceryl Triethylhexanoate, Polyethylene, Trihydroxystearin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Isopropyl Lanolate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Propylene Carbonate, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol. (+/-): Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides.
Yeah, not natural at all but well, it works!
Excellent reviews from the gals at Makeupalley
On the whole, Too Faced Shadow Insurance is a useful makeup product and delivers what it promises. Eyeshadow stays longer and because the colors do not fade, they stay more vibrant too. I’ve tried an eyeshadow primer from Fyrinnae in the past but don’t like it too much so this definitely compares well. However, I’m not in the position to tell you if this is the best product though. On Makeupalley.com, this product did well with 197 reviewers giving it a 4.5 out of 5 rating. You should also read the reviews if you want to know how well it compares with Urban Decay Potion Primer.
Reasonably priced and long lasting
This retails at S$28 at Sephora here and it’s quite reasonable compared to US$17 online. The tube is small but it’ll last me quite awhile considering I only use a small dollop each time. Plus I like the packaging because it’s not only pretty, it is very hygienic to use.

I’ve been wanting to try this out for so long and thanks for your review, they have this face-to face with UDPP a lot of oily gals liked the UDPP better but those with drier lids love the Too Faced Shadow Insurance… I am dry skinned, so I should choose this!
thanks for the lovely review . You got me excited when I saw the heading
Nikki: Glad that this is useful for you!
And I hope you’ll like it if you get it.

Hey, why don’t you alo check out SPLASH’s eyeshadow primer? It’s cheaper and my friend says it good!
BTW, I love visiting Viva Woman!
Kelly: Hey thanks! I’ve not heard of SPLASH…not into makeup so much but will check it up! And thanks for coming by. Do visit often!

Personally I prefer the TFSI to the UDPP. The TFSI is thicker in texture and works better on my extremely oily lids compared to the runny UDPP.
I agree with you; only a tiny bit is needed (like you showed in the picture above) per application.
Tine: I’ve never seen the UDPP…but if it’s runny, it’s not going to work so well isn’t it?

I have the same problem like yours. I have stopped using eyeshadow to work except for special occasions only.
But now, I think I will buy this & give it a try. Thanks

It’s quite good if your eyelids are oily.
