Review: MOMO makeup brush set

Makeup brush set

I’ve been hunting for a foundation brush to replace the Erth kabuki brush that “died” on me. I wanted something affordable and after reading various reviews, shortlisted that from Eco Tools and Everyday Minerals. I almost placed an order with Everyday Minerals because the company provide international shipping but before I did, I got to find out about the MOMO Brush Set from Momo Minerals and that they were going for a 30% discount! In addition, the company is right here in Singapore and I can save on the shipping!

Brush set consisting of 7 items in a pouch
If you have seen or own brushes from Everyday Minerals, don’t you think the Momo brushes look uncannily similar except of course there aren’t any logos on the makeup tools? But whether they are the same or not, this brush set is definitely of great value as it contains a powder brush, a blush brush, a crease brush, a small eyeshadow brush, an angled liner / brow brush, an eyeshadow brush and a spoolie, all packed nicely in a black zipper pouch. The retail price is S$35 but after the 30% discount, I paid S$28.40 for it inclusive of postage charges. Compare that with US$10 for just one kabuki brush from Everyday Minerals, not including the shipping charges!

Makeup brushes

Synthetic bristles are extremely soft on the skin
The brushes measures from 10 to 11 cm and all the bristles are synthetic and hence, extremely soft on the skin. As you can see from the picture, the brushes are very dense.  The powder brush is great for applying mineral makeup but it’s a little soft to pick up powdered foundation that well though. I also found the angled brow brush too soft compared to my usual but the advantage of using one that is softer is that I don’t pick up so much pigments and because of that, my brows look softer and more natural. My favorite is the creash brush! I’ve never used something like that before and this is excellent for blending my eyeshadow.

Makeup brush pack

No shedding after first wash
What I love about this MOMO brush set is that everything is washable; from the brushes down right to the pouch! And the brushes didn’t shed one bit after one wash. I certainly hope it will not shed in subsequent washes.

30% discount on brushes and tools for January
So I’m very happy with this purchase. The service from Momo Minerals was also very prompt because I received this within two days after I placed my order online. And you may like to know that the 30% discount is applicable for all their brushes and tools for the entire month of January.  Just enter lovelydeals during checkout when you order from Momo Minerals.

Eh! This one looks good. I’m always a sucker for brushes – too bad they don’t ship out of Singapore ?

    ParisB: Yup, they don’t. ?

  2. prettybeautiful says:

O_o for a moment i tot its the everday mineral’s brushes. lol. but for the price u paid, it is so worth it

prettybeautiful: It looks like doesn’t it? Yeah, it’s really worth it! ?

  3. Florence says:

I have this similar brush set from classy minerals. The price I paid is not so bad as I had 40% discount & I share the shipping with my mum.She also like this brush set & is very soft.

Florence: It’s always worth it when discounts are applied!

  4. Nikki says:

Oh I just read Paris’ comment and too bad they don’t ship out of singapore!!! I’m sure a lot of people would like to own that set..so pretty and it is similar to the EDM brushes ?

Nikki: You also think it looks similar huh? Well, ya, too bad they don’t ship out. I guess the next best thing is to order from Everyday Minerals. But strange, I didn’t see this set, just the loose brushes. Maybe I didn’t check properly at the website.

  5. lina says:

    Is the brushes quality good?
I mean are they as soft as EDM ones?
    =)

Lina: I’ve not tried the EDM ones to know if they’re the same. They do look the same. However, these MOMO brushes are even softer than the one I use from Lumiere.

  6. Audris says:

Nope, EDM doesn’t carry the set, unfortunately. I’m pretty sure it’s the same supplier, as the same/ identical brushes w/o the logos are found on other makeup sites like Blusche and I found several Chinese manufacturers while googling as well that had these brushes’ stock photos.

Audris: You’re right! I had a look a Blusche and they look the same as EDM’s. But no sets or I didn’t see it. Like you mention, not surprise they’re all from the same source.

  7. Juliana says:

    Hi,

I have a baby kabuki brush from Everyday Minerals and I am really in love with it. However, I have a question: how do I actually wash it to make it clean and also making sure that I wont spoil the brush and keeping it in its best condition. Thanks. ?

Juliana: If you can get hold of those special liquids from some of the cosmetic brands like Clinque for washing brushes, you can use those. Otherwise, you can use baby shampoo or if you use a mild facial cleanser, even that can do. You should try to handle the brush upside down so that the water won’t flow to the ferrule and damage the brush. I used to have to tie a rubber band and hang it upside down. Now I use Brush Guard to air dry my brush. It’s perfect! Check my review here.

  8. Juliana says:

    Hi,

Thanks for your advices and comments. ? they are really useful. So when I am washing the brush, the brush side should face down and the handle should face up am I right. ?

The Brush Guard seems to be very useful but it doesnt ship to Singapore right. ?

Juliana: Yes, the brush bristles should face down so the water can drip down… Brush Guard can be shipped to Singapore. Check the website. You can combine orders with your friends…shipping is not too ex.

  9. Audris says:

If you’re keen on other synthetic brushes, Lumiere is having a pre-buy at pretty good prices ?

    http://www.lumierecosmetics.com/catalog/Pre_Buy_Brushes-119-1.html

Audris: Thanks for the highlight! I have one of the Lumiere’s original kabuki and do love it. But the pre-buy prices are so cheap! Very tempting…

  10. ann says:

I’ve quickly signed up and made an order. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Ann: I hope you’ll like them!

  11. Dee says:

I always love Kabuki brushes. Bought from Everyday Minerals and Essential Beauty Supplies and they are not that bad as well!

Can’t wait to try this one out soon!

Dee: The powder foundation brush is smaller than the kabuki but it applies well!

  12. Alison says:

I had just logged in an order too. Hahaha thanks for the recommandation. I nearly placed order with everyday minerals too.

    Alison: It’s a lot cheaper isn’t it? ?

  13. Tine says:

Hey that’s what I thought too, EDM brushes! But you definitely snagged a much better deal ?

Tine: You think they’re the same too?

  14. tina says:

Wow, looks nice. I’m also looking around for an affordable and quality brush set. Thanks for recommending.

    Tina: You’re welcome! ?

  15. Serene says:

I was looking through the Lumiere site and understand that they are having a prebuy but with shipping it just didn’t seem worth it. Then i came across your review. Just placed and order with MOMO. Can’t wait for them to arrive!! ?

Serene: Lumiere’s brushes are great! Love the kabuki. But the prebuy takes awhile…you can join a spree. Sgspree has something on it recently if you can wait till April to get it. But I hope you’ll like the MOMO brushes.

  16. Thes says:

I need to get 2 brushes from Lumiere but missed the spree on Shoppinglifestyle and Cozycot. Does anybody wanna do a spree?

I read their Fiber Optic Angled Blush Brush is very good for appliying highly pigmented blush.

Thes: Have you tried SpreesGalore at LiveJournal? I think I saw a spree for Lumiere brushes but it maybe for their pre-buy.

  17. Belle says:

Hi, do u find the powder brush from this set similar to their classic kabuki brush?

Belle: Their classic kabuki brush is bigger with a wider bristle surface but I find the powder brush in the set applies powder more evenly due to the smaller size.

  18. Belle says:

Thank you for the prompt reply. Do u use the classic kabuki for blush? I’m currently using my edm lhk but i need to apply alot of blush for the colour to show up..

Belle: I’m not a blush girl. I hardly apply on the apples of my cheeks. I did try it a few days ago with the blush brush from Momo and it was okay. I only used a tiny bit. The classic kabuki seems to pick up lesser of my powdered foundation (not mineral foundation) compared to the powder brush so it may not work well for blush.

  19. monica says:

the brush set looks good! when does the promotion end?

    Monica: End Jan 2009…by Saturday!

  20. dmj says:

any chance of helping me snag this set? i live in jb. as today is the last day in january, we need to speed up! call me at 0192872988. thanks so much.

dmj: Did you see my email?

  21. Thes says:

Thanks a lot for your reply. I was awasy for 1 week+ and the spree is now closed. sob…sob…sob…

Thes: Well, keep a lookout…they may run it again…

  22. Thes says:

Did I search the wrong site? Would you be able to let me know the link, please?

  23. summerayx says:

Hi, I recently did some research in my quest for makeup brushes. Was searching for a brush set online and came across your Momo brushes review. Well thanks Sesame! I bought them and am pretty plsed with the buy. The brushes are soft to the touch. Haven’t tried the goat-haired mini kabuki. Not sure, tho, how well they compare to other brushes as I’ve only begun to explore the arena of eye makeup other than eyeliner and mascara.

Just thought I’d add my two cents worth abt getting brushes in sg. Saw your skinfood eyeshadow brushes review too and just wanted to comment that it’s a little hard to get makeup brushes of decent quality unless you are willing to fork out hundreds of dollars for the dept store high end branded ones like MAC and Shu Uemura. Sasa@ Wisma Atria does have a few incl. Red Earth, but it’s a tad costly for so-so quality. I didn’t see the any E.L.F. brushes. The sg site sells them at like 6.90 per brush now, not 3.30 as in one of the comments I read here(maybe the Skinfood review).

Think perhaps an alternative wd be ebay but it’s somewhat hard to ascertain the authenticity(for mid-level brands) and quality (for unbranded)until beauty stores start bringing more brushes in, i think we’d have to buy from US stores online and pay for pricier shipping… =(

Summerayx: Glad you like the momo brushes. The kabuki is so-so. It sheds a little too.

Actually like I mentioned, I’m not very well versed in makeup so I haven’t invested in makeup brushes apart from those for face. I’m unwillingly to fork out too much for the high-end ones. As long as they’re soft and apply well, they good for me.

  24. msfatgraycat says:

Hi, I was looking for some brushes to apply my MMU, and I saw your review. I ordered one set last week, and they arrived today.

But they look so small! The powder brush is like 1 1/4″ in diameter. I am a little disappointed with that.

And they smell a bit like a pet shop..I am okay with that though as I love going to pet shops! ?

msfatgraycat: Haha…you’re funny! Yes, the powder brush is smaller. I have the bigger version too. But after using both, I actually prefer the smaller one because the application is better for me. I hope you’ll be able to use it – great for travelling or when you’re on the move!

  25. rinaz says:

Gosh, I wish I had seen this sooner! Now I am jonesing for the makeup brushes!

  26. Grace says:

Im suspecting that MOMO minerals are actually use everyday minerals as their supplier but repackaged themself. The packaging and everything is similar to everyday minerals, even some of the range!

  27. sesame says:

I don’t know about the makeup but I thought the brushes looked similar. However, now that I have the flat top brush from EDM, I have second thoughts. Seems like those from EDM are more dense. Or maybe it’s just the flat top.

  28. Angie Twe says:

    Hey, I like your review.
One qns, does Momo Minerals have a counter or store ard S’pore?

I do wanna try out with their range of brushes after reading your post but I can’t do online buying (too embarrassed to ask for credit card from parents and is not working yet)

Do get back with me. ?

  29. sesame says:

Not that I know of. They only sell their products online. They’re based in Singapore and might accept bank transfer. Why don’t you email them to check?

  30. Angie Twe says:

Good one! How come I’d never thought of that! ?

    Thank you Sesame! ?

  31. Sheila Veeraian says:
