On average, I color or highlight my hair only about two to three times a year. One thing is cost, but the other is I’m not so keen to subject my hair to too much harsh chemical treatments. I’m kind of paranoid that it’ll contribute to hair loss and I already do not have a lot of hair to afford that kind of damage.
Professional coloring range for hair salons
So anyway, I went for my first hair coloring for the year yesterday, thanks to a complimentary session from Hoyu. I had initially thought they would be coloring my hair using their off-the-shelf DIY coloring products but hey no! Hoyu has a professional coloring range under their Hoyu Promaster Color Care which is exclusive to some of the hair salons. If I remember correctly, I’ve always had my highlights and hair color done with Wella products but I hadn’t expected much difference since it’s just hair coloring right? But I was in for some pleasant surprises.
Customized colors using primary tones
The first thing I learnt about Hoyu Promaster Color Range is that their hair colors are customized because their products come in primary colors. So when I picked the color, the hairstylist actually got together three of the colors and mix them to the right color proportions. Apparently, this makes for better hair coloring and allows the colors to last longer. I’ve never seen anything like this before and of course was quite curious to see it done on the spot!
Without getting into the technicalities, I was also told that Hoyu Promaster Color Care range is designed to adjust the pH balance of our hair and is not as harsh where hair coloring is concerned.
Holistic approach to hair coloring including intensive after care
Well, I’m not too sure how it works but I was quite intrigued that the Japanese who developed Hoyu takes a holistic approach even when it comes to hair coloring. Because after my hair was colored, I spent like 10 minutes at the sink having my hair washed, using like three types of products including a shampoo, a treatment a another color care. On top of that, I was even given a Promaster Home Care set containing these three products so that I can continue to exercise this after coloring treatment at home for at least seven days!
Shinier and softer hair after coloring
The good thing is that the entire hair coloring process did not take longer than my usual. What got my attention most was that my hair was a lot shinier than before. I think hair coloring has this effect or is it because Hoyu Promaster is better? Well, I cannot confirm but I was happy that the hair color showed up more obviously than my previous sessions especially under lighted conditions. Maybe it’s the violet tone I picked so the crown has a sort of red tint when I go under direct sunlight.
So I have a question for the ladies who color your hair. Do you care which brand of color is being used for your hair at the salon?
Update: For those who are interested, I had my hair coloring done at Professional Hair Studio which is located at Hougang Green Shopping Mall, 21 Hougang St 51, #01-30 Tel: 6387 9693.
