A sneak peek at my new mineral sunscreen

sunscreen ingredients

I’ve been struggling with myself if I should post this but I really find it hard to contain my excitement!  I’m dying to tell everyone about it but I’m afraid that it will end up like the UV Natural Sunscreen which had my hopes so high initially.  So instead of telling you the brand, I’ll create a little suspense until I’m sure that this will not break me out.

But here are some highlights:

It contains 20% non-micronized zinc oxide and a lot of antioxidant goodies.  It contains natural and some organic ingredients; no chemical and synthetic stuff at all.  It is lotion like and applies really nicely so far.  A slight whitish overcast but sits underneath my makeup perfectly.  Has animal oil but is not tested on animals.  And it is listed as one of the top 10 sunscreens on the current list of at Environmental Working Group Cosmetic Database!

Please don’t hate me for creating the suspense but I don’t want to overhype this in case it disappoints.  So please give me a couple of weeks and I will give you a thorough review plus a special feature where I compare 5 physical sunscreens under the top 10 EWG sunscreen list.

I’m really hoping that this is going to be my PERFECT SUNSCREEN!

Oh wow I really can’t wait for that entry! I’m looking for the perfect sunscreen myself!

Nurul: Okay, give me a couple of weeks. ?

  2. Jen says:

I know this!!! I use the tinted version … it is great … but pricy ?

Jen: Oh you’re using the tinted version and it’s great for you too? I might want to try that version the next time. It’s very pricey for me cos I’ve got to have it shipped all the way here. ?

  3. miyo says:

sesame… arghh i couldnt wait man lolx.. huh uv natural not gd.. hahaha but i ask my cousin to send me a tub to try, nvm i hope it won cause me to breakout ?
hahaha i def look forward to ur review on ur upcoming mineral sunscreen.. yayss~!!

Miyo: Hey, you bought UV Natural before or after my review? It’s not bad but not the best. I had a breakout using it at first and thereafter I became paranoid even though it’s okay when I cleanse my face properly. Anyway, if you find that it doesn’t work for your face, use it on your body. That’s why I don’t want to review the name of this one yet cos I know some readers will go grab it before I even review. I don’t want them to be disappointed if possible…although what suits me may not suit them and vice versa.

  4. Chev says:

Wow, I’ve not heard of this brand before. Can we find it easily?

Chev: I’ve not revealed the name yet. It’s from US. I’ll reveal the name when I run the review. ?

  5. pipsila says:

I’m looking forward to your review too! I’ve been searching for a HG sunscreen for so long ?

Pipsila: HG mineral sunscreen is quite difficult to find…

  6. Leon says:

Hey Sesame, UV Natural made you break out? I stopped using it because it dried my skin but my hubby’s finding it useful.

Leon: Yes, I have to double cleanse to make sure it’s completely removed cos it’s water resistant. Also found it a bit drying for me.

  7. innerchild says:

Yay, good luck with the sunscreen. I’m on the search for my HG all-physical sunscreen as well. My skin is so sensitive and reactive, and I’m tired/scared of trying new skincare cos I’m so sensitive. I wish products would just jump at me and say, “Hey you! I know your skin problems and history. I won’t break you out. I won’t make you itch or red or oily. I’ll be your perfect sunscreen!” Ok, it’s silly, but jeez it’s a little frustrating :

And btw I’ve been a silent reader of your blog. Love what you do, keep it up! ?

Innerchild: Yes, I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes it’s so annoying why they can’t make the texture lighter but still yield sufficient coverage. Or it’s the perfect texture and they have to add stuff like alcohol!

Thanks for reading my blog and I’m glad you like the info. Please comment more! ?

  8. Chev says:

I think I know the brand but its definately not cheap at almost USD40 per bottle? Hope it works out:)

Chev: It’s a bit more than 40. There’s a cheaper version going for 30+ and the formulation seems quite the same. I settled for this once cos it has pearl powder which I’m hoping might help to even out my skin tone too.

  9. raelynn says:

i did a little surfing and found out the brand! haha, but i’ll keep your secret =X was reading the ingredient list that u provided.. i’m a little confused, broad spectrum UVA/UVB means it covers all the usual “+” in the conventional sunscreens? because i was surfing the internet and the website was saying that currently they’re having lab testing and the true SPF is SPF30+.

Raelynn: This is a US formulation so they don’t use the PA+ ratings. But yes, it’s broad spectrum. The 20% zinc oxide alone offers extremely good protection. Plus the other antioxidants like green tea, raspberry oil, seabuckthorn oil have some UV protection benefits too.

  10. slp says:

    I don’t hate you…but i can’t wait… Its killing me…. Hahahaha

slp: Then later more of you will hate me cos this is not so easily available… ?

  11. Jen says:

Yes, the tinted version seems to be almost the exact correct shade for my skin tone (fair, slightly peachy skin). It actually has pretty good coverage too. I’ve never tried the untinted version because I figured it’ll probably leave a white cast. The only downside to the tinted version is that I can’t use it on my neck because it’ll rub off on the collars of my clothes and stain them. I’ll wait for your review (please tell me if it leaves a white cast) so I know if I should try it instead. Thanks!

Jen: The untinted version does leave a very slight whitecast on my face. It’s barely noticeable after awhile though. But I’m very fair. Hmm…good thing I asked you about the tinted. I didn’t think about the neck! So I’ll stick to the untinted cos it’s working nicely for me, like a primer before my foundation and helps even out my skin tone a little too.

  12. Jen says:

Glad I could help! And I’ll try the untinted next time. Maybe with some MMU over it it shall be ok.

Jen: Yeah, if you’re fair, it should probably be okay. Btw, have you tried any of their other products? I was looking at the one for skin brightening and it looks promising. A number of ladies also raved about it.

  13. Jen says:

No, I haven’t. Most of her products are outside my usual price range. ? I made an exception for the sunscreen because it is so difficult to find a non-micronized zinc oxide sunscreen plus it is one of her cheaper products, and on a per ounce basis is actually quite reasonable considering the ingredients she uses. Helichrysum essential oil, for example, is very expensive even in minute quantities.
I imagine her other products probably have a higher concentration of the good stuff than the sunscreen and so that’s why they are more expensive.
I’m actually very happy with the improvement in my skin since using this sunscreen, so much so that I don’t feel the need to use any other treatment product. ?
One thing I’d be careful about thought is that since she does use essential oils, it might be wise to take a break from the products every once in a while. I’ve heard that using the same essential oils every day can lead to sensitization for some people with sensitive skin. I’m not sure how accurate this info is, but maybe you can confirm with the people from Yours Essentially (whom I do not know personally, but since they sell essential oils they should know).
And now I’ve rambled on for longer than I meant to ? but I hope this helps even a little bit.

Hey Jen: No worries about rambling! I appreciate all the info you share here! Yes, I find her price expensive plus I have to get it ship all the way here. ? That’s why I want to be more careful and check around before I think about the other product. There aren’t any reviews I can find out on the Net. But you’re right! I love the ingredients she uses and was just thinking that her sunscreen is helping my complexion and hence, I thought her other product may work wonders for my pigmentation.

Oh, I didn’t know about essential oils. Thanks for highlighting that! It’s interesting info and I’ll check it up. Maybe it warrants another blog post by itself if I can find enough info. ?

  14. MIYO says:

oh well becos i went to the website itself and read about the ingredients hahaha den got tempted ?
    well it’s ok..
hahah we’re still waiting for ur new mineral sunscreen.. >,< ~~ Miyo: That’s why I try to avoid saying which brand now or you might order again… ?

  15. hippo says:

Hi Sesame, I am also in constant prusuit of my perfect sunscreen. Like you, I am also concerned about Keys sunblock because of its nano-particles. Although I really like Keys, I am eyeing other options too. Have you heard of an Australia brand “Invisible Zinc”? I learned about it from a forum, and just received my order of a tinted sunblock (18% zinc) and an environmental protection sunblock (20%). It is too soon to say much about these products, but so far the tint is perfect for my skin (fair Asian), and the environmental skin protector 30+ is also good (lighter than Keys but smell just like oil sunscreen). Anyway, just thought that it might be a good thing to share with people who are also into mineral sunblock.

Hippo: Hey thanks for sharing! I’ve not heard of the brand and will go and check out more info on it. But from what you’ve described, it sounds interesting!

  16. shin says:

have you tried avene mineral sunscreen before?

Shin: No, I was looking at one of their sunscreens containing Tinsorb but it’s very expensive! Plus it feels a tad rich for me.

  17. Blair says:

    Hey Sesame,

How in the world am I going to get my paws on this sunscreen? US$44.99 makes me feel faint haha

Blair: There’s one that’s under $40 and the ingredients sounds almost similar. Yes, it’s rather costly compared to what’s out there but I justify on the basis that I use this in place of a moisturizer and I can probably use it for about half a year?

  18. ls says:

I’m not fair skinned, so mineral sunscreen has always been tough for me, but it’s definitely the ONly way to go with kids! Green Healthy Baby (www.greenhealthybaby.com) has all sunscreens on sale (and there’s a coupon code, mom10, for 10% off so it makes them really affordable!). I use my baby’s sunscreen daily on my face year-round too. Thanks for all your info!
