Viva Challenge: take your vitamin C daily

Redoxon All Day Defence

One of the things you can protect yourself from the swine flu threat that is putting everyone on tenterhoooks is by strengthening your immune system such as consuming a supplement of up to 500 or 1000 milligrams of vitamin C daily. In addition, oral intake of vitamin C supplements act as an antioxidant to neutralize potentially damaging free radicals and help promote the production of collagen in the skin. I have also read that combined with vitamin E, vitamin C supplements can also protect our skin from sun exposure. And if you are using topical vitamin C skin care products, you’re are actually getting double skin care goodness!

Have a consistent daily intake of vitamin C
While it’s good to ensure that your diet is rich in vitamin C by consuming more citrus fruits and vegetables rich in the vitamin, you still need to consider taking a vitamin C supplement especially since our body does not have the ability to produce vitamin C on its own. In addition, vitamin C cannot be stored in the body for any length of time so you need to have a consistent intake daily.

Slow release of vitamin C for all day defence formula
Personally, this is one vitamin I must always take because I work in an enclosed environment with a big group of people on a daily basis. I like the Redoxon All-Day Defence Vitamin C + Zinc formula because it is specially developed with advanced micro granules that keep releasing Vitamin C into our system for up to 8 hours, from morning until evening. So far I have found it to be very effective in keeping the flu bug at bay.

Check for allergies to vitamin C
However, do be aware that some people are allergic to vitamin C. Unfortunately, my husband falls into this group. He can take natural forms of vitamin C but he doesn’t take too well to the supplements. So if you’re in this category, you are probably not suitable to consume the vitamin C supplement. But for the rest of you, are you taking your vitamin C on a daily basis? If you’re not, it’s probably time to start now.

By the way, I had tried Challenge 1 and 2 and slowly getting into it and trying to improve. ?

I wanted to try Redoxon but it has a natural sweetener – aspartame, which is said to be “harmful” for the body but that is still a controversy topic as what I had read.

So now, i am trying Watson’s Vitmain C (it has zinc too) and definitely doesn’t cost as much as Redoxon.

Den: Hey didn’t know about the sweetener. I like this brand because I have been using them a long time and they’re effective for me compared to others. But I don’t read labels of supplements that well.

    I’m guilty!

I bought some Watsons vit C but didn’t take them on a daily basis.

Btw, Seasame, have you ever tried Caudalie range of skincare before?

pf: Never tried Caudalie…actually never heard about them.

  3. Cyndi says:

I eat Vitamin C every single day because i have a really weak body. If I missed my vitamin c for ea couple of days, I would start to fall sick lol

Cyndi: Ah you really need to take it everyday…

I’ve been doing this for two years – started when our son needed to prepare for front tooth implants. It was the recommendation of the dental surgeon. This is ironic: son came down with a horrifying and RECURRENT case of MRSA because of the surgery.

I was picking up an RX at the clinic and came home with masks for all of us. Can you believe this? = they were out of the better ones! I know they’re not supposed to be effective, but at least when I wear one, folks will be scared to get too close!

Here’s my tip for keeping healthy: put Vaseline or some other sort of coating/barrier INSIDE your nose. The only time I’ve been sick recently is when I’ve forgotten to do that, or when I touched my eyes.

Soos: Here we’re not used to wearing masks in public places although we should. And your tip on coating inside of the nose is interesting! Can I do that with my 6-year-old? But since putting him on vit C everyday, he is less susceptible to flu infection.

  5. Leon says:

I always take Vitamin C and when I feel I am gonna be down with flu or cold I take additional dose just to be on the safer side:)

Leon: Yup me too! It definitely helps to take at the early stage.

  6. raelynn says:

i have the impression that when applying topical vit C, it is best not have have over-exposure to sun (eg more than 10mins, even with umbrella and sunscreen)

Raelynn: It is said to be beneficial when applied under sunscreen for extra protection but you’re right; I’ll not apply it when I’m out in the sun for long periods.

You can check out the website of Caudalie here.

    http://www.caudalie.com/

I think the ingredients sounds good. And its french. My skin generally agrees with European stuff. hehe…so thinking of trying it.

pf: Okay, I’ll have a look at it soon. Thanks for the link!

  8. shin says:

yeah i’m seriously considering making it a habit to take vit c, especially when i’m going abroad for quite a long period, soon. but, i just heard on news that the H1N1 tends to attack the young and healthy more, OMG!

shin: Yes, it’s good to build up your immunity especially since you’re going to be away. Oh I didn’t read about the attack on yound and healthy ones…gosh! I had thought the older and weaker ones or the kids would be more susceptible.

  9. pf1123 says:

I heard that the Changi T3 carries Caudalie stuff. So, gonna check out the 1st wrinkle serum for my laugh lines when I’m travelling next week.

I hope the price is not exorbitant. ?

pf: Heheh…hope it’ll work for you if you do get it. ?

  10. prettybeautiful says:

hmm i take vit c on daily dosage, but it didn’t really help to keep my flu at bay…but royal jelly does!

Prettybeautiful: I must check royal jelly out soon…heard so many good things about them!

  11. Ms Lips says:

This is one challenge I’ll pass with flying colors ? I take Vit C religiously since I am very susceptible to flu. I find that taking it everyday helps boost my immunity to flu. Before I took Vit C on a daily basis, I would get the flu every fortnight or even every week if it’s a particularly stressful period. Now the frequency is much reduced and I would get the flu every few months or so. I take Redoxon Vit C tablets that dissolve in water. Recently I’ve switched to the Redoxon Vita Immune line. I must say that the taste is very bitter so I have to dissolve it in a glass of honey. Otherwise I’ll never be able to drink it down!

Ms Lips: I am so lazy with the tablets that dissolve in water…that’s why I use the capsules. I’m not so proned to flu but I find that taking vit C helps when I’m about to get a flu. But need to increase an extra dose to be effective.

  12. Soos says:

I haven’t worn the mask yet, and I’d need a better one against the vog that’s lingering here. But if I have to, I WILL wear it. People in my office are sick – thank goodness they stayed home today!

Soos: As always, I think we need a campaign in order to galvanize our folks here to wear one.
