Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I thought I’ll dedicate a post with five quick and simple beauty tips to mothers who are too busy with diaper changing, breast feeding and coaching their kids.

1. Remember your basic skin care
I’ve read on so many mommy’s blogs that they do not have time to care for their skin and how they found their skin deterioriating over the years. If you don’t have a lot of time, at least do these three things – cleanse, moisturize and apply a sunscreen. And don’t forget to extend that regime to include your neck and body too!

2. Exfoliate your face weekly
Exfoliation helps with your skin renewal process and can render you with smoother and brigheter skin. If you’re on a budget, I recommend you to use yogurt for this purpose as it has lactid acid for natural exfoliation plus it is gentle and is not harsh for any skin types unless you’re allergic to it. Organic yogurt is best but those plain ones from the supermarket can do the job too. Just apply a layer on clean face and leave on for 15 – 20 minutes before rinising off.

3. Care for your crown of glory on a regular basis
One of the quickest way to look and feel good is to have a new hairdo. Or at the least, make sure your hair is in decent shape and length. Since most mothers have a busy lifestyle, a short hairdo is recommended for easy maintainence and it can also take years off your age easily!  If your budget and time allows, go for a highlight or color to add some character to your hairdo too.

4.  Update your wardrobe with new items once in a while
Don’t be frumpy in your choices of clothes.  Being a mother does not mean you cannot look hip or chic.  Update your wardrobe once a while or at least get some new accessories to spruce up the look.  There are a lot of affordable handmade jewelry which you can get online and a fashion magazine can give you some ideas on how to look good without breaking the bank.

5. Eat well, exercise and have sufficient rest
While caring for your kids, don’t forget to look after yourself.  Beauty comes from inside out. So remember to eat well with lots of fruits and vegetables, which will provide you with antioxidant benefits. Drink sufficient water in a day and take some healthy beverages like green tea if you don’t mind the taste. And if you like, take supplements and sleep early by 10pm whenever you can. Exercising can help with your blood circulation and that includes doing household chores too!

Bottomline is, you are a mother but you are also a woman to begin with.  Don’t center your life around your kids all the time as they will grow up and have their own friends and lifestyles.  Hence, take care of your well-being and beauty, indulge in something you like and when you feel good, your confidence will help you look good too.   Remember, when you look and feel younger, you can reduce the generation age with your kids in time to come.  So take time to smell the roses and pamper yourself too!

Have a happy Mother’s Day this Sunday!

    Hi Sesame,

What a timely article! You are so right on everything. Now that my little girl is older, I am spending more time to look after myself. Looking back, esp during her 1st year, I really looked horrible – overweight, messy, super dull complexion, dressed like god-knows-what cos of my weight…Aarrrgghhhhh…..

Right at this moment, she’s even applying lotion on my dry legs after complaining the skin on my legs are rather flaky. ? such an angel sometimes, but could be otherwise too!

Vonvon: Oh your girl is so sweet!
