Viva Challenge: sunscreen around your lips

sunscreen for lips

While I had earlier questioned the intent of the criticism from the Cotter about my skin, I did appreciate the highlight on my lips because it’s true I don’t protect them very well. Her comment made me think about giving my lips more protection as the lip balms and lipsticks I use are not always loaded with SPF. In addition, I sometimes use lip gloss, which can actually reflect UV rays and lead to sun damage.

Must your grocery bag be fashionable?

grocery shopping bags

I was shopping at Kinokuniya over at Liang Court yesterday when I noticed that the stationary store carries a wide array of bags and grocery bags comprise the major selection.  They were of different designs and sizes; all very interesting but I  didn’t buy any.  Well, actually I don’t own a grocery bag simply because I don’t care for them very much and the ones I have are those recycled from stores.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I thought I’ll dedicate a post with five quick and simple beauty tips to mothers who are too busy with diaper changing, breast feeding and coaching their kids.

1. Remember your basic skin care
I’ve read on so many mommy’s blogs that they do not have time to care for their skin and how they found their skin deterioriating over the years. If you don’t have a lot of time, at least do these three things – cleanse, moisturize and apply a sunscreen. And don’t forget to extend that regime to include your neck and body too!

Lavera Young FACES Mint Blemish Stick

Lavera Young FACES Mint Blemish Stick

I would never have picked up the Lavera Young FACES Mint Blemish Stick & Concealer if not for the S$7 promotion because the original price of S$25 is plain expensive to me. Moreover, I had thought the Young FACES series were definitely not suitable for me since the products are for younger skin. But as it turned out, this Mint Blemish Stick is quite an effective acne spot treatment even for mature skin!

Lavender oil: harmful or beneficial?

lavender

Sometime last week, I came across a story “Are organic cosmetics better?” where Paula Begoun mentioned that lavender oil can cause cell damage.   I was rather alarmed and when I checked further, I found that this is what Paula Begoun has listed on her site Cosmeticscop about lavender oil:

Lavender oil and extract: Primarily a fragrance ingredient, although it may have antibacterial properties. There is no research showing it has any benefit for skin.  It can be a skin irritant and a photosensitizer. Research also indicates that components of lavender, specifically linalool, can be cytotoxic, meaning that topical application causes skin-cell death.
