Do you store skin care items in the bathroom?

Until recently, I’ve been storing most of my skin care products in the bathroom. I had a cabinet made just for that purpose and everything that I use on my hair, face and body have always been kept there. I hadn’t noticed anything amissed until I started using more natural and organic products. I noticed that some of the carrier oils were smelling weird and some of my lotions were changing color real quickly. I actually didn’t realised that it was the problem with the bathroom since it’s quite dry and not particularly humid until my clays started to clump up together.
Not great for natural or organic products
So now I know the bathroom is not the best place to store my natural and organic products especially since most of them are made without preservatives. I’ve had to move most of my skin care products out from the shelves, leaving only the bath, shampoo and dental products in there. It was rather inconvenient initially but I’ve since gotten used to it. And what I do now is to use a little basket to keep the products I always use and bring them in when I have a bath.
I think I should have done this earlier. But since I wasn’t using natural and organic products, it never surfaced as a problem as my bathroom is pretty cool and dry in my eyes. Well, at least my serums and creams looked and smelled a-okay to me so I never raised any doubts. Anyway, I don’t think I’m the only one who left my skin care stuff in the bathroom cabinet. Or am I?

Nothing for my face except cleansers stay in the bathroom. Everything else stays in my bedroom. Bath stuff stay in the bathroom too. I guess I don’t use natural or organic stuff so I didn’t notice anything untoward. Thanks for bringing this up!

I only leave my shampoo, conditioner, hair treatment and soap in the bathroom, the rest! I do store them in baskets and carry them every time

I store only all my bath products and shampoos in the bathroom and dental products and facial cleansers and scrubs. The body lotions, perfumes and skincare are in the bedroom.

I store EVERYTHING in the bathroom. Oh no!
Most of my everyday use stuff are out in the open. Stuff which I don’t use everyday is kept in plastic cabinet drawers.
I didn’t notice anything weird to them. I think besides the Yuan soap, all my stuff are chemical laden, deadly stuff. hehehe…and the Yuan soap finishes before anything can happen to it.

If the products are not natural and they’re consumed quickly, it’s not a big problem. But if you can, I guess better to store outside the bathroom.

lol i don’t store anything in my bathroom anyway or else my sisters will steal them away :p i thought that was a hassle, but maybe it’s a good idea after all! female intuition, can’t live without it i guess =] lol!

I only store cleanser, shampoo & shower cream in my bathroom.All the skin products is in my dresser cupboard.

I only store my shampoo, conditioner & body wash in the bathroom the rest I keep in my bedroom but I’ll keep this in mind as I tend to use a lot of organic natural products now, I had no idea that they could weird.

I’m quite particular about where I store skincare – expensive or cheap, especially those that contain active ingredients. I keep them away from moisture and sunlight. I only store cleansers in the bathroom

That’s great. I only store some of my stuff in the fridge. But now,even the cleansers stay away from the bathroom cos mine is natural so not too good to keep in there.

I never keep my skincare products in the bathroom.. cos when you shower.. the steam will cos humid in the small area(even thought my bathroom were pretty dry thru out the day)
I only put bath stuff in there… I keep all my facial care and toothbrush in my bedroom.
I read from somewhere many many yrs ago that microbes floated around the bathroom for at least two hours after each flush. And it will settle on your toothbrush.(Yuck)

I had the same thoughts too…mine is dry and airy most of the time plus the shelves that I store my products are nearer to the door, and a distance from the shower area. But seems like it’s still no good for my natural stuff so there’s probably some effect on skin care products as a whole.

Never, not even hair products. That atmosphere breeds bacteria.
I don’t even keep my toothbrush in the bathroom.
I suppose if you have a large ventilated area it might be alright to store some stuff. My bathroom is only utilitarian and average in size.

Wow, you don’t even keep your toothbrush in there? My bathroom actually has sunlight coming in during the day, which was why it was never a concern for me. It’s not that big but the shelf is on the other end and is away from the bath area.

I had the same experience, where I used to store my over the counter chemical laden products in the bathroom.
When I started using organic and natural products, and stored them in the bathroom, I noticed they loose their potency really quickly. I then stored them in the bedroom in my wardrobe where it is dark and took them along in a cosmetic bag to bathroom in the mornings and evenings.
Also helps a lot if my first bathroom is occupied, then I can take it along to another bathroom in my house. Saves me from being locked out from my skincare products!
I also transfer my creams and lotions into jars of smaller quantities so that I do not contaminate the whole bottle by opening it everyday, especially for creams where I have to dig my fingers in.

Ah…quite a neat idea to transfer some of those creams to smaller jars. I don’t do that often. If I need to dip, I’ll use a cosmetic spatula. Just too lazy to transfer. The last time I did that was for travelling purpose.

i only store cleansers, cleasing oil, bath products etc in the bathroom. for the rest, i store them all in the room. thanks for finding this out and reminding us

Another thing about storing them somewhere in a bedroom also is to ensure that they are not exposed to the sun.
Leaving the products exposed to the sun will also break them down pretty quickly. As they always say, better to store them somewhere “dark and cool, away from direct sunlight”.
