Review: Burt’s Bees Hand Salve
Thursday, 6 August 2009I have always wanted to try Burt’s Bees Hand Salve but wasn’t so keen to get the full size. So I was happy to find a smaller size at 0.30 oz available at Sephora in ION Orchard for S$6 only. Before buying this product, I had the misconception that this product is like a hand cream but I realized that it is not. It is actually an ointment!
I’m not sure if it’s due to the size but I find Burt’s Bees Hand Salve better as a cuticle balm as it’s quite hard to rub the ointment on my hands because it isn’t cream like. It actually reminds me of Badger Balm Cuticle Care although the latter is a lot softer and more nourishing!
Ingredients listing
The formula is said to be packed with botanical oils, herbs and beeswax. The full ingredient list goes like this: prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, beeswax, fragrance, tocopheryl acetate, symphytum officinale (comfrey) root extract, tocopherol, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaves, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flowers, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, canola oil.
Small size great for mobility
I’ve read that this ointment is great for chapped skin and I think it’s true as it’s fairly moisturizing. The smell is also pleasant. However, I don’t think I’ll buy the full size as I find I have to rub quite a bit more in order to feel that my hands are sufficiently moisturized. I’ll rather use a hand cream to keep my hands from drying out as it is easier to rub with a cream. An ointment works for smaller areas. So I say this one is great for carrying around and used in the day as a cuticle balm.

It’s okay but maybe cos of the small pot, I find it harder to apply to my hands. I’m assuming the bigger pot is easier.

Thanks so much for the review! I too have been wondering about this product since it is called “salve” and looked a bit waxy and wondered if it felt greasy on application.
Now, I’m thinking of buying the shea butter hand cream instead. It looked interesting.

It’s not too greasy as it gets absorbed pretty quickly…but neither very nourishing to me.

Try the small pot first and see if you like the texture.
