Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush Is Too Dense

Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush
So I caved in to all the raves I’ve read on the beauty forums and from fellow beauty bloggers and bought the Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush finally.  It was on sale and I only paid S$10 for it.  I was very excited about this brush and expected it to perform better than the current synthetic kabuki brushes I’m using from Momo Minerals.   But did it?

Synthetic fibers very dense
This is a super soft brush made with synthetic fibers and comes with a bamboo handle. The first thing I did was to compare the Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush with Momo Minerals Long Handed Kabuki Brush.  I had initially thought the brushes from Momo Minerals were the same as those from Everyday Minerals but I might be wrong.  The Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush is a lot more dense!  But you know what?  I don’t really like it as much as I thought I would.

Comparison with Momo Mineral kabuki brushes I’m using
I’m back to using mineral makeup on most days now and I’ve been happy with the kabuki brushes from Momo Minerals.  The foundation brush in the travel kit is rather small but it works well for my face and I alternate with the bigger, long handed kabuki brush.  The bristles while dense, are not as dense as the one from Everyday Minerals but they both give me good coverage.

Flat top brush

Coverage is too au natural for my liking
While I agree completely that the Everday Minerals Flat Top Brush is very soft, but it’s so dense, I find it hard to blend – it doesn’t swirl very smoothly on my skin.   The other reason for the difficulty in blending is also because the bristles are shorter.   But I noticed that this brush actually blends my mineral makeup into my skin very well, so much so that I can’t get the coverage that I like.  The coverage is almost sheer and my blemishes were far too obvious after my foundation application.  It’s definitely way too au natural for my liking with the same amount of foundation I use.  In addition, it shedded the first time I used it and that was after just a wash.  Although it was minimal shedding but I was somewhat disappointed as I do not expect my brushes to shed the first time after a wash.

May work better with powdered foundation
Having said that, I did find that my finishing looked better using this Flat Top Brush because my pores are not as obvious.   So yes, it is a good brush for blending if you look at it from that angle.   I’ve no idea if this will give me better results with my powdered foundation since I don’t use them again.  Maybe I’ll try it one day with my Paul & Joe foundation or maybe I’ll just keep this brush for my finishing only.

An affordable brush
Good thing the brush is not expensive and it’s easy to wash too.  And despite being dense, the brush dried after a day of washing.  I guess the hot weather must have helped too!  I read some gripes that this brush cannot apply on corners too well but I didn’t find that to be a problem though.

Okay, I know many of you love this brush but don’t knock me out for not raving about it.  It’s a fine brush by itself but it’s just not my brush.

Well we’re all entitled to like different things ? Its a great little brush for me, maybe because I use powder foundation and it works great for that.

  2. pf1123 says:

I guess diff brushes works for diff ppl.

I didn’t like the momo minerals travel size brushes. They are too dense for me. Hahaha…and so small. My face is too fat and huge. Using them takes lots more time.

My favourite base makeup brush is the Coastal Scents synthetic wide buffer brush.

  3. Blovet Beauty says:

i actually love EDM brushes. i have the rounded top ones and they work really well.. i have heard great stuff about coastal scents buffing brushes too ?

  4. sesame says:

Maybe I’ll try it with powder foundation…just that I love my mineral foundation too much to want to switch back now.

  5. sesame says:

You found it small too? In hindsight, that was something I should have mentioned in my earlier review. It didn’t cross my mind that some prefer the bigger brush for their face.

  6. sesame says:

Yeah, I read all the raves on EDM brushes and this is the first one I’ve tried.

  7. pf1123 says:

Yes. They are very small! And I find the brush bristles are long and inflexible. Its not easily to do quick, even sweeps.

I prefer my buffer brush which is dense but soft. I’m done with my powder foundation application with a couple of swipes and buffing all over my face. I’m not going for high coverage but sheer and even.

I think I can afford to travel not-so-light on business trips. I prefer to get ready for work under 30mins each day. And under dim hotel lightings, I need some sort of reliance on my tools that my makeup is applied evenly.

The blush brush in the momo mineral set is also the same. Colour pick up is too much for me due to the dense and inflexible bristles. And its a tad small…I can push it down a little for the bristles to spread, but then as the bristles are quite long, the spread might be too much. Therefore, I prefer a duo fiber blush brush with short handle for my travel too.

The eyeshadow brushes in the same set is quite good. I’m very pleased with them. Application is precise. However, I prefer to bring a fluffier e/s brush for blending.

  8. Cheryl says:

I’ve been using the flat top for almost a year now and I love it! I was kind of worried when it started shedding in the first wash but after a couple of washes it stops shedding altogether. ?

  9. rinaz says:

I didnt know that the Momo Minerals brushes were smaller.

I’ve been using Everyday Minerals Brushes for a while – I like the flat top as it takes a much shorter time to put the powder on my face as compared to a kabuki brush. However like you, it does go on very sheer. But that’s not such a bad thing. I’m quite happy with it ?

  10. sesame says:

Ah, your comments about the bristles being inflexible and not easy to do quick, even sweeps is exactly what I experience with this EDM Flat Top Brush. The Momo Mineral ones are just nice for me though. In fact, I love both the foundation and blush brush and use them everyday. I hardly use the eyeshadow brushes although I like the crease brush. Haha…just the opposite of you!

  11. sesame says:

I haven’t washed it again so hopefully, it’ll be like yours too.

  12. sesame says:

I actually didn’t notice that they were small until a reader mentioned to me. I just didn’t think of that at all in my last review…

I like my makeup light and natural but not too sheer or all my blemishes would be too glaring!

  13. pf1123 says:

Maybe how we hold our brushes and how much pressure and coverage we want also affects the results/performance of the brushes.

So, yup, one may like a certain brush but another might not like it that much! ?

  14. Janet says:

Agree with you that it’s quite hard to blend with the EDM flat top. I still prefer the rounded top ones, which reach the side of the nose or go round the chin better. Not quite related.. but I also own a EDM small kabuki eyeshwdow brush, and this one is fantastic! Lurve! EDM’s brushes are good value and soft.

  15. Diane says:

Where can I buy this brush? I would like to try it out of curiosity ? Thanks!!! ?

    Hi

Just wondering if mineral make up works for you, etc does it acccentuate your pores or clog pores?

I have used mineral make up from everyday mineral and Loreal, but it failed me. I have oily t zone and some pores. When I applied it on ym face, the make up jsut sit on top of my pores and accentuate it so much so that it almost magnify my pores! And Im so worried it clog my pores, though I know it will not. Under this humidity of weather in SG, i think mineral make up is not a choice for me because my make up melts after I walk for about half hour ? how does it work for you?

  17. sesame says:

Oh finally I have someone who shares the same issue with me. I think I’ll give the rounded ones a try. Seems that those from EDM are more dense that the MM ones I have.

  18. sesame says:

Direct from Everydayminerals.com. I joined a local spree though to save on the shipping.

  19. sesame says:

I had similar issues like you before – I tried a few brands including Everyday Minerals. They’re all okay and worked for me to an extent but I found my face getting more oily as the days passed. Then I was introduced to those from LA Splash and I love them. My pores are not so obvious with this one – I suspect it’s also cos of the kabuki brush I use. The small one blends very well and I don’t see my pores being accentuated. If you’re keen to try, you might want to check out my review on it.

  20. Grace says:

    Thanks for the recommendation!
As for now, Im using Clarins Instant Smooth Foundation. Its in mousse form , glides on smoothly, non oily at all, and very sheer for everyday use. Maybe when i finish it ( which is going to be long ) i will try the mineral make up again.

  21. sesame says:

Well, mineral makeup may not be for everyone though…but surprisingly I’ve been happy with this one for quite a long while. Some of the others I’ve tried made my skin oilier over time. Maybe it’s also due to my skin care products.

  22. Jojo says:

I just recently got a kabuki brush! I’ve never own one :p I was never really into make up until recently I want to try mineral make up to cover up my blemishes>< I would like to ask if you wash your brush when u get it new?

  23. sesame says:

I do…I don’t know what went into making it.

  24. lyn says:

    Hey

I used everyday mineral foundation with my momo minerals brush. Works really well for my hyper sensitive skin.

I usually wash my brush when its new, you never know how clean it is. I always have extra ones around.

  25. sesame says:

I do like the momo minerals brush but the small one is starting to shed. ?

  26. Nikki says:

Thank you for your review. I’m interested in the EDM flat top brush. But i found it out of stock in EDM’s website. Do you know where else carry it? I found another website seems to carry the exact same brush(different brand though), call Lovely Everything, http://www.lovelyeverything.com/index.php/prebuy-brush.html
have you tried this one? do you think they are the same?
    Thank you.
