I only use one pump each time and pat on. Anyway, the product is formulated to penetrate quickly so there's no need for the cotton pad. But I did try the DIY lotion mask for a period of time using Lavera toner. Not bad. Like you, I don't agree with everything she recommended as well - eg. using the ice pack.
