How I detox for better health and skin complexion

I’ve always knew something about detox from my best friend many years ago but I’ve never thought about trying it until recently when I suspected that my acne could be due to Candida, resulting in possible damage to my intestinal wall and allowing for undesirable toxins to build up in the bloodstream within my body. And after reading through various online materials, the best course of treatment appears to be detox.

What is detox?
Our body is capable of expeling toxcity naturally but when this internal detoxification system is impaired due to some reason, the toxins produced through the metabolic process start accumulating in various organs and give rise to various problems. According to this article I read titled 10 way to detoxify your body, detoxification means cleaning the blood. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin.

How to detox?
There are various ways to detoxify your body including juicing, using coconut oil, adhering to a strict diet or using cleansing supplement packages.  For me, I chose the easy way out and purchased the latter in the form of Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze. The ingredients contained in this supplement included psyllium husk powder, which is also used to treat Candida, but Kordel’s program came across more holistic to me, as the formula not only helps expel the toxins but also nourish and protect the key eliminatory organs. It’s a 7 to 14 day cleansing program and I’ve completed my first 7 days and decided to extend another week. Hence, I’ll post my experience using this supplement after I’ve completed the full two weeks cleanse.

What are the side effects of detox?
I was really quite worried when I started this program because I wasn’t sure how I would feel. Dehydration, headaches, nausea, constipation, fatigue, frequent urination and sleep complications amongst others were listed as possible side effects. I felt quite fine actually but what I wasn’t prepared for was more breakouts. Initially I thought it was due to my consumption of certain foods but I later learnt that my skin is probably adjusting to the detox and because of that, one could suffer from more skin problems. Yet, these symptoms are part of the detox healing, supposedly indicating that the immune system is working properly, and that toxins are being eliminated.

Are you prepared for a detox?
It’s quite distressing really because I’m having the worst acne ever on my left cheek now, one that is completely pus-filled. No wonder I read some users were in tears after their detox programs as their skin looked worst than before! But I’m persisting in the program because I’ve also seen some improvements and hopefully, by after the 14 days period, I can tell you positively that I’m on a gradual and gentle transition towards good health and complexion, as promised by the Kordel’s program. Stay tuned for my update!

  3. Vonvon says:

Timely review! I have been considering a full body detox lately. But still can’t decide on which method. Though I have been loading myself with lots of fruits and drinking more than 8 glasses of water daily, and eating less ‘whites’, as in rice, bread, etc.

Will wait for your full review on your experience with the Kordel.

Recently I started consuming iSlim, which promises to help you lose weight through detoxification. After a few days of consuming iSlim, I went to the toilet a lot – a natural detox process I guess! A number of pimples/acne also started appearing, and I think that must be my skin getting rid of unwanted toxins too. The face was ok after 2 weeks. ?

  5. crystal says:

I don’t know if I would try it, I would just to eat more fruits or try to stay stress free.

  6. stellarvixen says:

    dear babe,
seems to me you hav been battling ACNE for the longest time ?
me too..until i went and see a dermatologist and prescribed me with accutane-by roche! high dosage of isoretinon will control our oil-sebum and rid of pus feeding the bacteria/inflammation.
i was on this medication treatment for 1 year and my face was all cleared up..

    a box of 30 pills is SGD90

why don you seek up this option than wasting endless money on the right working product…

  7. pf1123 says:

I am skeptical about detox programmes because a few years ago I saw on TV that a doctor said that the body is able to naturally detox on its own. There is no need for us to detox it.

Detoxing to loose weight is also kinda dodgy because not sure the body is losing water, fat or muscle.

Sesame, for the acne on your cheek, not sure if you wanna see a dermatologist lest the skin gets infected. I once had 2 huge acne side by side on my right cheek that wouldn’t go away for a week or 2. The derm had to inject antibiotics to reduce the swelling.

  8. sesame says:

Haha…I didn’t mean for you to eat and read this. But fried chicken is okay for you!

  9. sesame says:

Thanks thanks! I have one or two on my forehead but it’s the cheeks that’s horrible. Very difficult to heal!

  10. sesame says:

Okay, I’ll update. This method to me is more gentle so hopefully the “purging” is bearable.

  11. sesame says:

Yes, I believe those oral slimming products might have these effects. Actually, I lost 2kg in one week during the detox. Not something I had planned for though.

  12. sesame says:

Not everyone needs to do this. It depends on your body as we’re able to detox on our own. It’s recommended for those who constantly feel lethargic, or you feel you had eaten too much “rubbish” so to speak. I’m doing this more for my skin cos I think there’s a connection.

  13. zhenling says:

    unrelated to this post:

i got selected for the freshkon workshop!!! thanks for posting about it on your blog! -super excited-

  14. sesame says:

Yes, since last year or even earlier.

Is that the same as accutane? If it is, I can’t do accutane…I’m too afraid after hearing problems by others and my skin isn’t exactly that resistant. A bit on the sensitive side. I’m also not sure if accutane is suitable for anyone.

I would rather cure at the roots. At the moment, have been diagnosed by TCM as having blood heat and acne is a result of that. At the same time, it also seems related to my intestines as they all emerge at those related meridian spots.

  15. sesame says:

You’re right that our body is able to naturally detox. It’s only when the system is impaired that we have problems getting rid of the waste and our bodies become toxic. So it doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone.

I’m not too sure about detoxing to lose weight but I have lost 2kg! Not something I’m that excited about though considering I’m already thin. ?

I’ll see how the acne goes. I hope I don’t have to go to the derm. At the moment, using Nexcare to hopefully draw out the pus and tomorrow, heading to do a facial so hopefully that’ll calm them somewhat.

  16. Liesl says:

I’ve tried Accutane for a couple of months but once I’ve stopped the medication, my problems came back. After researching and reading up as well as went through trial and errors, now I’ve opted for whole grains options (avoid white rice,White bread etc) , cut down on white sugar and salt and dairy products for a year plus. My skin has totally cleared up and is more resillient now than ever before. No breakouts even around menses time! The other day was watching 女人我最大 program and Niuer was saying that sugar ages a woman. Think in my case, it appears true as now my skin has become more supple and youthful than before as commented by my friends. Along with the right skincare program which also plays an important part.

  17. Jyoan says:

I am quite afraid of drugs actually. Just don’t like the thought of pills because my childhood was for most part sickly and visits to the doc were by the fortnight.

I personally do constant cleaning by drinking Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar before every meal. Not eating wheat. I take oats/Nestum for carb. Not eating processed food. All yong tau foo style boil vege. And have 2 servings of fruits in between. Plus green tea after my white meat (palm’s size). Exercise is a must.

I find that it’s pretty much detox this way, and I only visit for big business alternate days. I feel so clean, don’t even have waste to egest. hahaha. And the acne part is very very true. Detox is the best way to cure acne, in my opinion. And give glowing smooth skin too.

  18. pf1123 says:

    Hope your skin recover soon!

  19. aichaku says:

i tried juicing detox – it resulted in the worst gastric pain and violent migraine …. i dun dare to try detox – maybe my body is tooo toxic but i think i’ll pass for now … just going with the flow and eating more raw fruits and vegs for now … eeek

  20. Rennie says:

Good luck~ I’ve tried detoxing by regulating my diet but I always cave in in the end due to the callings of my stomach. Hahaha. I heard that drinking tea will also naturally detox your body.

  21. loveless says:

    hi,

someone I know recommended me psyllium husk for digestive problems in general, and when i asked ard, it seems to be a pretty good self-medication remedy for digestive disorders. so it’s good tt it’s on the ingredients list.

What did your TCM doctor say about your blood heatness? Did he recommend any diet changes or any medications to correct the imbalance?

I’m having digestive problems myself and that is one of the major factors affecting my current health. Most people take about 2-3 weeks to recover from one pimple, but I take at least 2-3 months to recover from one. My current GP is helping with diet changes and some supplements to help restore the “imbalance” in my body. It’s helping and I can feel the changes, albeit a bit slow since it’s a holistic healing process. What I found out is that exercise and what you eat really affects your health in more ways than you think.

It’s great tt the detox is working out for you. May I suggest after the detox program, you replenish the probiotics by perhaps eating yogurt?
It’s imptn as the detox will flush out your good bacteria as well the bad. The Kordel capsules do include some probiotics but I’m not sure whether it’s enough, especially if you suspect that you may have candida.
Probiotics also need to be refrigerated, if not they will become inert.

The detox program seems to be working for you, so maybe your problem is not too bad? I’ll look forward to your end of detox report.

  22. sesame says:

I think if one’s acne is a recurring problem, then it’s always better to find out what’s causing them. Going to a derm is good but I find that most of them only deal with the skin issue and the prescribed medications only treat the current batch of acne.

So your option to cut down sugar is wise. I have also been avoiding (as far as I can) but my problem seems a little bit more complex. I can’t even eat avocado. It will trigger acne for me as well. Anyway, sugar not only breaks down collagen but according to Dr Perricone, is a major culprit for acne.

  23. sesame says:

Understand. Some pple are comfortable with supplements so thank goodness there are other ways to detox.

Anyway, your eating habits are excellent! Good to start young…not many young pple have your sort of discipline so keep it up!

  24. sesame says:

Yes…keeping my fingers crossed! The big acne had subsided a little with Nexcare but I needed to use a sterilized needle to make a little hole.

  25. sesame says:

Juicing detox is very hard isn’t it? I’m not so sure but my impression is that some detox methods could be too “harsh” for our body so if yours is quite weak, better to opt for a gentle approach. Anyway, eating lots of raw fruits and vegs is good!

  26. sesame says:

I think drinking green tea might be good but I’m also not sure if it’s okay to drink too many cups a day…some pple may not be able to take that.

  27. sesame says:

The TCM doc says my blood heat will need at least 1 – 3 months to treat. She only asked me to avoid fried food though. However, I felt that perhaps my digestive system isn’t good so I decided to detox. When I update, I’ll post a picture I found that shows my acne spots are exactly on the meridian spots of the small intestines.

I also take a long time to recover from my acne – I think as long as you. It’s due to a slower metabolism rate. Good that you’re trying to exercise as that’ll help. One exercise to try is rebounding on a mini trampoline. I’ve not gotten one yet so meanwhile trying it on my gym ball.

I don’t like yogurt…do you think yakult can do the trick? I’ve started drinking that on a daily basis now.

  28. pf1123 says:

So glad the nexcare acne patch is working for you.

I realised that my pimples healed fastest when the pus is drawn out very quickly. Subsequently the skin will be dried out itself when there’s no more pus and the dark spots are easily done away with a few times of gentle scrubbing.

  29. loveless says:

Please don’t drink Yakult or Vitagen because it doesn’t help. According to my doctor, it’s more sugar than probiotics. If you’re really suffering from candida, sugars, even “natural” sugars, can make it worse.
The best natural alternative I can think of is plain yogurt (the flavored ones have too much sugar). It is also cheaper than probiotic therapy which is expensive and needs to be taken under the supervision of a doctor.

  30. sesame says:

Oh that’s great! I hope you’ll enjoy the workshop. ?

  31. sesame says:

Yeah, it’s working to some extent…usually it doesn’t. I think it’s got to do with my pores or something cos I’ve seen how easy others heal with the patch.

  32. sesame says:

No good huh? Actually, I suspected that but I buy the drink for my son. I only started drinking last week cos I read on some forums from those suffering from candida and trying to self-medicate. Plus, I was using it together with my mung bean mask so I just drank up the unused portion.

I hate yogurt though…I think the plain ones will make it worst in terms of taste.

  33. loveless says:

I dun like yogurt either, and I’m staying off most dairy pdts for the time being since I’m lactose intolerant. Which is why my doctor put me on the probiotics therapy.

Hmmm.. there are some foods which are a good source (?) for prebiotics, also good for intestinal flora. according one of the bks I’m reading now, these include jerusaleum artichokes, soya beans, chicory roots and raw oats, wheat and barley. You may want to try these instead.

you may also want to cut down on fermented foods, yeast-based pdts and sugars during your detox.

the recommendations are from some of the research i’m doing by myself, so you may want to do some verification yourself.

  34. sesame says:

I think I’ll just rely on the probiotics in the Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze…it seems high enough.

Yes, have cut down on sugar intake and have tried to cut down on yeast stuff although still taking bread. No fermented food though.

  35. Toxic Beauty says:

It is so true that acne is an internal problem which manifests externally. You did the right thing with detoxing. Many people try to simply treat the Symptoms of the problem (the acne itself) rather than the cause. You definitely need to deal with the root problem. The best way to treat acne is with a holistic approach. Please check out my new site.

  36. Toxic Beauty says:

Sesame, also please check out Curtis Duncan’s site. He gives some great natural remedies for candida. It’s http://www.curtisduncan.blogspot.com/

  37. sesame says:

Hey Robin: Good to learn that you’ve started a new blog and it’s acne related. I’ll be checking it out soon,

  38. sesame says:

Okay, thanks for the link! Will check it out.

  39. AtelierGal says:

Your skin is just purging out the toxins, give it a few weeks for it to cease.

Also, it’s not advisable to do 2 different detox back to back.

  40. sesame says:

It’s not two different detox. It’s the same one…just extending cos it’s good for 7 to 14 days.

  41. Pat says:

I was sitting here googling “probiotics and acne” and have been entering several sites and reading up. What I liked about your material is that you said that the body is eliminating toxins which can cause for further break-outs. My face looks like I have the chicken pox. The acne is horendous. I’ve never had acne like this even as a teenager. Nonetheless, I’ve been taking a probiotic for over a month now and am still breaking out. WHEN DOES IT STOP???
This is the second time I’ve tried taking probiotics and both times I continued to breakout without clearing up. Last time I took them for 2 months. I can’t continue looking this way and will probably stop takingit again. But, my question to you is: Will I ever stop breaking out?

  42. sesame says:

Have you also changed your diet? It took me awhile. I did a detox where I ate a detox supplement, fed mostly on brown rice, vegetables and fruits before using probiotics. I noticed it cleared up about a month.

  43. Sabrina says:

Im having the same problem as Pat, although Ive only been on them for about two weeks. I have lots of little pimples since starting the probiotics. If its purging Ill continue to take them however Im worried that its an ingredient in the probiotic that is causing me to breakout. Any advice? I havent really changed my diet but do eat pretty healthy.

  44. sesame says:

It could be purging. I had them when I first started and they were big ones but after that, it normalized. It may take up to a month.

However, the brand may not be suitable for you. Why don’t you moderate and take it every other day and see what happens. If purging, it shouldn’t last you more than 3 weeks.

  45. Sabrina says:

Ok. I will keep taking them regularly since its only been a week or so. Im taking capsules, Natural Factors brand. The recommended daily dose is 1-3 capsules daily so Im not sure how much to take for my condition. I feel like I have a lot of damage to repair because I was on antibiotics for so long. So maybe I should start by taking 3? Or should i start low and work my way up?

  46. sesame says:

I did a quick search on the brand and it seems the probiotics is diary-free so it shouldn’t cause more acne. Might be purging but, best to keep to the recommended dosage.

  47. Sabrina says:

The one I’m taking (acidophilus and bifidus) contains goats milk. But I’ve heard if you’re prone to breaking out from cow’s milk this is better? Thanks for your help with this!

  48. sesame says:

Oh the one you take has goat’s milk. I know diary products promote acne for some people. Goat’s milk is a better alternative than cow’s milk according to many though. Hmm…are you able to source for one that is free from diary content?

I take Kordel’s and you can read about it here:
    https://www.vivawoman.net/2010/04/22/fibre-and-probiotics-for-acne-free-skin/

I think it is free from diary but I need to verify. However, I haven’t had problems with it and I’m pretty sensitive when it comes to diary stuff.

  49. Alex says:

So happy to have found out about ur page! I am an advocate for eating healthy and using as chem free skin care as possible. Loving ur articles. From reading this post can u plz share w me what is a TCM and how do I find one in my area? Thanks!!

  50. Sesame says:

I can’t really recommend cos I don’t know them well too…the common one is Yu Yen Sheng’s if there’s one near your place.

  51. Megan says:

“New Chapter” all-flora probiotics are amazing! They have tons of raw foods to help with absorption of the cultures. Also it is dairy free.. I’ve had the worst acne of my life at the age of 23 and cutting out dairy, taking probiotics, lots of raw local veggies, an exercise has drastically improved my skin and whole life!

  52. Sesame says:

That’s great! I think probiotics is great especially if one can tolerate the initial detox.
