Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging Oil Plus

I was very surprised to receive this bottle of Anti-Aging Oil Plus, complimentary with the samples of Marie Veronique Moisturizing Face Screen Plus from the company. I hadn’t mentioned anything to them, especially not that I’m quite fond of using oil on my face!

More than 20 different oils
Just looking at the ingredients alone, one would think that this Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging Oil Plus is super oily as it has more than twenty different types of carrier oils and essential oils including some of the most powerful ones with super antioxidant properties such as grapeseed oil, apricot kernel oil, borage oil, argan oil, emu oil, blackberry seed oil, evening primrose oil, rosehip seed oil, black raspberry seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, cranberry seed oil, just to name a few. But no, this anti-aging oil isn’t that much oilier than the ones I’m used to.

Thick but not overly greasy
I started using this only in the night, after toning my face. Just a few drops is sufficient to moisturize the entire face. I also use a little bit of it around my eye area. It’s thick all right, but it’s not particularly greasy and by morning, my face looks and feels fine, without any oily residue. I was initially afraid that this would be too heavy for my currently acne-prone face but after three weeks, I didn’t experience breakouts. I have one or two more new acne, but I know that’s because of some of the junk food I couldn’t resist taking.

Replenish and repair lipid barrier
Described as a product that combats aging with the most powerful oils, the Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Aging Oil + is said to provide the ultimate protection and repair of the lipid barrier with essential fatty acids from emu, krill and kiwi seed and has the ability to seal in moisture and leaves the skin supple, smooth and more refined. Personally, I love this because it works well for my combination skin type. I’ve also started using this on some days beneath my moisturizing sunscreen and I’m very happy with it. My cheeks don’t feel exceptionally dry so I believe it does prevent moisture loss and dehydration.

All natural ingredient list
The entire ingredient list is here: Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), Vitus viniferi (grapeseed oil, expeller-pressed), Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam seed oil), Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Borago officinalis (borage oil), Argania spinosa (argan oil), emu oil, Rubus fruticosus (blackberry seed oil), Oenotherus biennis (evening primrose oil), Rosa rubignosa (rosehip seed oil), Sclerocarya birrea (marula oil), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Rubus idaeus (black raspberry seed oil), Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn oil), Calophyllum inophyllum (Tamanu oil), Vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry seed oil), Actinidia deliciosa (kiwi seed oil), Rosemary oleoresin, lecithin, lycopene, Euphasia superba (krill oil), Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Lavendula angustfolia (lavender) essential oil, Helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) essential oil, Rosa centifolia (rose absolute) essential oil, Citrus aurantium bigaradia (neroli) essential oil

Strong color and smell
So as you can see, it contains no harmful chemicals, no waxes that can clog pores, no water that can evaporate and dry out your skin, and no nut oils that can go rancid with UV exposure. The color of the oil is orange but it did not make my face more yellow upon application. In addition, it smells great but I have to say the scent would be considered quite sharp for those who are prefer scent free products. Another thing to note is that this Anti-Aging Oil Plus is easier to apply when your face is slightly damp, after washing or after applying your toner.

A little goes a long way
This 1oz bottle cost US$80 at the online store and those who do not like the emu oil may like to know that you can choose from the 100% Vegan formula which retails at US$70. Anyway, looking at the amount I need, I’m thinking this bottle is going to last me for at least six months!

  1. Zephyrlite says:

I notice it contains Lavender EO which is cytotoxic when used topically. It also increases photosensitivity. Although it’s probably in small amounts since it appears nearer the end of the list, I tend to avoid it.

  2. Jyoan says:

Sounds really good! I am so tempted to start on anti-aging skincare… Have been looking out for products other than the moisturizing ones.

I feel that buying directly from a brand is much better, cos they would have already done the R&D, such as Marie Veronique. So the 20 over oils and respective ratios are perfected. Rather than I buy pure oils and mix them myself. Too taxing on the brain for me too.

Good to keep my eye on this, as I age. =)

  3. Natalja says:

It sounds like a great product. One thing however bothering me is why it is sooo expensive? $80 for 1oz?? That’s insane, sorry. No harm intended, but our Sweetsation Therapy Ellasti*Belly Caviar Oil contains pretty much very same ingredients (which indeed do the same things and can be used on the face) but costs only $31 for 4oz of it. I see there are Rose and Neroli oils that are somewhat expensive, but still they can’t make a difference of $72 per 1oz. To my opinion this product is unreasonably overpriced. Just wanted to voice my input as manufacturer.

  4. sesame says:

As much as I avoid lavender, I wouldn’t be concerned about this one cos it’s almost listed at the end. Also, I use this mostly at night.

  5. sesame says:

Yeah, mixing your own is probably more expensive if you have to get different types of oils too.

  6. sesame says:

I took a look at your cavier oil and while the contents are not exactly similar but yes, they’re oils too and looks pretty good. But when it comes to price, I often see products priced higher because of branding, marketing and product positioning.

While I’m not saying that I agree with the price, but in this case, when something is packaged for the face, it’s also deem more premium by consumers? The contents of your product look fine for face but I’ll probably just keep to using it on my body though because of how it is positioned. That’s my opinion. Also the product packaging is different – the MV product comes in a glass bottle – it does give a better feel overall.

I also know some manufacturers do not want to price their product too low because some consumers also have the perception that cheap is not as good – although it may not always be true since some manufacturers geniunely want to bring good products to consumers within an affordable price range.

  7. Natalja says:

I agree about the product positioning and the difference between the face and body products. People are willing to spend more on their faces and believe that the more expensive-the better the miracle, so maybe that’s why it is so expensive. I don’t know how about MV but we follow a particular formula based on the cost of the ingredients used, to determine retail price, and try to make the price reasonable too while delivering great products. In current economy and growing cost of living more people would be willing to try something new at the lower price point. And I personally believe that I would rather sell 10 units at $20 each then 1 unit at $100, and hope for the best. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, thinking from the point of view of consumer. And I still think that $80 for 1oz of product is too much.

  8. sesame says:

Coincidentally, I was reading an article about positioning recently and I believe price point is something that is relative to consumers. Some do not want to buy cheaper items thinking that they are inferior (which may not be true) and so it depends on your premise in terms of marketing your product.

Personally, the price point of $80 for 1oz is okay based on the quality, my perception of the brand and the formula.

  9. Leon says:

I haven’t used this oil but it surely looks promosing! Her Creme De Jour is amazing and I am sure it is equally good. Pricing looks fine because 1oz oil can really last loooooooooong, ingredients look lovely:)

  10. Leon says:

Sorry about the typo, I meant promising:)

  11. sesame says:

Yes, it looks like it’s going to last me at least six months or so.

  12. debx says:

I actually agree with Natalja, marketing and branding should not be a reason for sky-high prices. As a marketing executive myself, I know best that branding is really just a perception. It could- but most of the time does not really translate- into better quality products. A company may price high so that consumers perceive it to be of premium standard, but most of the time they go beyond that consumers need a premium price to be so that they may profit. E.g, we may feel that $100 is expensive enough for a face product but yet companies charge $150. It is a vicious cycle and if consumers allow companies to price high so that we feel better about the products we buy, we are just shooting ourselves in the foot. Sorry, personal opinion.

  13. GK Marshall says:

Any regimen you can start that takes full advantage of these oils is a benefit. My wife an I love this product in particular!

  14. Dia says:

I just tried this product…and just like you, I love the smell. Do you know which particular oil is causing that strong smell? I couldn’t pinpoint! Thanks!

  15. sesame says:

I can’t pinpoint…beieve it’s a mixture of the essential oils…a bit of lavender, a bit of rose and citrus plus the Helichrysum.

  16. keidi says:

I’m really considering this for night use! It says for dry/matured skin. Suitable for me u think?

  17. sesame says:

Should be okay. Emu oil feels richer than this.

  18. katie says:

I love the ingredients in this product, but for less I purchased the Sevani serumvitale and it has the best aroma plus a few other goodies and only $48/1 ounce. Friends have used it and raved about it as an anti-aging powerhouse. I love oils. I may try this one too vegan version though. You do get what you pay for sometimes but with this many ingredients you probably get so little of each. Hard to say, i love sevani products for anti-aging but this looked nice!

  19. sesame says:

Haven’t come across Sevani but this MVO oil is great. I love it a lot! Smells awesome too.

  20. Ci says:

I really do want to try this product but like many people, I do agree that the price is overboard.I have checked out and seen many organic lines and none have so far been sooo expensive.
Most are around $30 to $50+ and offer close to/and 2oz worth of product while MOV only offers 1oz and at a whopping $80.I dont think ordinary folks would be likey to go to such extreme lengths for vanity.
I would love to try this product out but for someone like me who is counting by the pennies, it is just not justiciable.I hate being negative but just adding my two cents worth of opinion.
Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.=D

  21. sesame says:

Price is relative to the content and quality. Those that are priced cheaper have different ingredients so that should be something to take note of. Many are called organic but their ingredients are not that great.

But, there are always choices. So choose according to your comfort level. ?

  22. Ci says:

    Thanks for the advice!

May I know how long did it took you to finish up the amount of 1oz when used only once daily?

  23. Ci says:

Oh and what is the expiration date of the Anti-aging oil+?

  24. sesame says:

If used once daily only on the face, should easily last 7 – 8 months cos each time only need two to three drops.

  25. sesame says:

The expiration will be printed below the bottle. Typically in a year.

  26. kaiping says:

Do you use a separate moisturizer over the facial oil?

Currently I’m using kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate, when I use it alone, the skin around my nose flakes easily. And I’m trying to use as much natural products I can find and didn’t want to go back using commercially available non-natural products. Is there any moisturizer that is readily available in drugstores that are natural?

Also, recently I purchased several oils and mixed them together, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, neem seed oil, hemp seed oil, rosehip oil, eucalytpus lemon essential oil, lavender essential oil and peppermint essential oil. I mixed them in 10mls carrier oil to 3 drops of essential oil and used one drop in the day prior to my olay moisturizer (not natural, I know, still trying to find substitutes), and two applications of one drop each at night. Do you think it’s alright for me to do it this way?

  27. sesame says:

Yes. Now I use Varnya and then the Kimberly Sayer night cream.

If you use the oil with Olay and there are no problems, then it’s okay. It’s fine to mix oil and moisturizer as long as they suit your skin. And actually, I find that combination ideal.

  28. kaiping says:

Okay! Now I’m at ease about using moisturizer afte the oil. Thanks for the prompt reply!

  29. sesame says:

I sometimes do that for my body too – use a body oil and then a body moisturizer. That way, I don’t feel so oily and the coverage is good.

  30. Ammie says:

Hi Sesame, thanks for recommending us to MVO. I love MVO products after using them for a mere one month. I am considering to order their Pacific line on my next purchase for my mum. Have you tried their Pacific line before? Thank you. ?

  31. Sesame says:

No, I haven’t. I had a quick glance at their ingredient list the last time and if I’m not mistaken, they seem kinda similar. I don’t mind trying if they offer it to me but I definitely won’t purchase it at that price point.

  32. Ammie says:

    Thanks Sesame! =)

Hey – nice blog, just looking around some websites, seems a really nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run.
