Viva beauty tip: use a separate face towel

It was a lovely Saturday morning for me until my main PC died on me! And now, I have to rely on this small notebook to work…arghhhh. Fortunately I have Mr Handyman around to help me retrieve my pictures and data but I hate having to start all over on a new system as I’ve to undo some of my old habits! So much for being overly reliant on technology but talking about habits, I’ll like to share a little beauty tip today and it’s about towels.

How many of you have the habit of using your bath towel to wipe your face too? Well, how many times do you wash your bath towel? Where do you use your bath towel to wipe? Do you dry your hair with your bath towel too…and your butt and you legs too? Plus, did you know that wet towels are breeding ground for bacteria especially if it’s always hung in your bathroom?

So it’s a good idea to use a separate small face towel just to pat your face dry after washing. Like many people, I started out using my bath towel for everything and then I realized how bad it was considering I like to wipe my hands on it so much after each wash. And I only wash my bath towel once a week! Now, I even make sure I rinse my face towel separately even after machine wash, just to feel better and I’ll always air it to keep it dry at all times. Some people I know don’t even use a face towel but a paper towel. Well, that’s personal preference I guess but I’ll keep my paper towels for my hands and kitchen use.

If you don’t keep a separate towel for your face, perhaps it’s time to go shopping for a few this weekend?

I’ve been using a separate face towel for as long as I can remember. In fact, I know my mother even goes as far as to keep a separate towel for washing her hair. Due to my OCD tendencies, I sometimes bring along my own face towel when I travel especially if I’m doubtful about the hygiene level in the place I’m going to.

  3. stephy says:

me too! i use tissue.. so much cleaner i feel.
for those we use towel, they can try putting towels outside the toilet.. lotsa germs inside!

  4. sesame says:

Wow to your mom! My bath towel goes all over except for the face. And I never knew you have OCD tendencies.

  5. sesame says:

    Sometimes I do too! Agree it’s cleaner…

  6. sesame says:

I would say try to sun it whenever possible. I’m so particular about airing them my hubs gets very annoyed cos he always can’t find his towel when he needs it. Haha…

  7. CT says:

I will never use towel on my face. Not very enviromental friendly cos I only use tissue paper to wipe dry my face.

I use separate towels for my hands, face, hair and body. My mum has been making us do this since I can remember anything. And honestly, in my house, my mother still does the washing. So it’s daily wash for face towel, and I think weekly (hmmm, gosh, I realise I am so reliant, I don’t even know how many times she washes the towel), for body towel.

  9. sesame says:

Ya, seems many ladies prefer using tissue paper.

  10. sesame says:

I have separate hand towels too but I’ll still use my bath towel to wipe my hands if I’m washing my hands in the toilet in between product application or putting on my contact lenses. But separate hair and body towels? Hmm…never thought of doing that.

  11. N. says:

Oh I always used separate ones. Though my actual body towel is never in the bathroom when my face towel is and it’s used by everyone for hands and face. So I wonder which one is cleaner…

  12. sesame says:

Your face towel is used by everyone else? Better to keep it separate then. In this case, I’ll pick your bath towel as the cleaner one cos you’re the only one using it and actually if we used it after bath, it’s pretty clean in that sense.

It is so true. Once I’ve forgot to pull washed loundry out of the washing machine for about 24 hours and when I finally remembered about it, it didn’t smell all that will. Just proves that 24 hours is more then enough to breed bacteria in “water” environment. And speaking of this and moving on to the skin care – the same happens with water based skin care products without preservatives. I just thought of that…. yukk..

  14. sesame says:

Hmm…that’s something I didn’t think about. But most of them would contain some form of natural preservatives although shelf life is short. But your comment reminded me of one set of samples I received that turned bad in a week!

I have 3 diff towels… 1 for face, 1 for hair n 1 for body. Learned this from a friend a few years back ? I carry my own face towel to the gym n To hotels just to be safe as I heard towels are one of the carrier of warts.
2 is actually sufficient but it’s just easier to have a small hair towel than using the body towel to wrap your hair.
Using tissue might be convenient n soft but it’s not environmentally friendly to do so all the time ?

  16. sesame says:

I always bring my towels when I travel too and even at the club’s pool. Like you, I don’t trust the hygiene level.

I guess my hair is short so doubling up the bath towel for my hair is ok.

Can a person used a body towel to dry their face and their whole entire body as well has their feet? I tried to explain to my girlfriend I like to used a different towel to dry my feet. Is their something wrong with that?

  20. sesame says:

    Haha…she doesn’t accept that?
