TGI Saturday: blabbers and reads galore

So glad it’s Saturday again! This week has gone rather smoothly and at least I wasn’t rushing around too much. But my apologies to those who have written me emails. I’m usually slow when it comes to responding to emails. I’m not ignoring you. I’m just…procrastinating!

Is Panthenol beneficial for our skin?

I’ve been using some skin care products containing Panthenol, which is a derivative of Vitamin B5, and it is commonly referred to as Pro-Vitamin B5. I wasn’t quite sure of its properties when I purchased the products and was kind of disappointed to learn later that Panthenol is the alcohol form of vitamin B5. But it is said to be derived from plants and is used as natural humectant that improves the moisture-retention capacity of the skin and stimulates skin regeneration. It has an anti-inflammatory plus anti-itching effect and is said to be easily absorbed by the skin cells due to its ability to penetrate into the lower skin layers. As such, it makes an effective hydrating ingredient in skincare lotions and creams. In fact, the level of hydration panthenol provides as well as its anti-inflammatory benefits makes it effective in relieving the itchiness and discomfort of eczema, as well as skin rashes.

Would you wear special sun protection clothing?

“What? UV driving sleeves? Does anyone wear this stuff?” That was the first thing I asked when I spotted these sun protection driving sleeves at a 7-11 store. In fact, I never knew this existed until now and of course I was so amused. I think it’s a great invention but seriously, would you bother to put this on before you drive? I know I won’t because I’m usually in a hurry to begin my journey and wouldn’t be bothered to spend more time preparing for the ride. Plus, I can always use a cardigan or jacket with long sleeves if I really wish to protect my bare arms isn’t it?

It’s a fact that as we age, our skin naturally becomes thinner due to a loss of collagen and elasticity. However, our lifestyle and our choices of products and treatments may accelerate this skin thinning process if we aren’t careful. So what are the contributing factors to giving us thinner skin aside from medical problems? Here are six that I’ve come across based on reading as well as personal experience.

10 ways to release beauty boosting hormones

Last Friday, I attended a Phyto Hormonal Therapy Talk at True Beauty and learnt more about the connection between hormones and aging. As the talk was conducted in Mandarin, I wasn’t able to comprehend all the information but I managed to establish that having hormonal balance is key to feeling and looking good. In addition, we can do simple things to regulate some of our hormones, such as serotonin, melatonin and endorphins, which are important hormones that can affect our well being and thus, our beauty.
