I received an email from fellow blogger, Heather of 365 Days of Style, introducing her new site and her free guide on 12 Simple Separates Technique of Wardrobe Management. It’s rather useful because I learn how I can use only 12 garments to create enough clothing combinations to last for about two months with no repeat performances. And you can get a different look every day just by choosing 3 basics from your current closet, then adding in three capsules of 3 garments each.
The guide uses pants as the foundation wardrobe but you can also use skirts. I don’t wear pants but I do rotate my skirts quite a bit.
This is a totally free guide – no payment needed, no advertisements even. Just click through this link and download the PDF file.
Enjoy!

Interesting! I will take a look. Whenever I buy something, I ask myself whether it goes with other items I own. Today, I was at the mall, and picked out a pile of items from the sale and clearance racks, from which I purchased: 2 handbags, one red, one pewter, one crinkled white scarf with small black paisley print, grey slim skirt, sheer black/white print tee, crisp white blouse with roll-up tab sleeves ($10.79 usd), black/white cheetah print belted jacket ($9 usd!) kind of wild but will go well w/my heavy-on-black wardrobe and perfect for the too-cold aircon in my office, bronze packable wide-brim sun hat ($9 usd!), and wrap-look grey print sleeveless top ($4.79 usd!) The total came to $100 usd!
I am NOT a frequent shopper. I happened to be at the mall post office to mail some boxes to my son. I did have to stop at the drugstore (they didn’t have what I needed) and supermarket (picked up one item). I just popped into the mid-price department store because I remembered what a merchandise manager told me. Ladies, in the US, the biggest and best sales are in January and July to clear winter and summer items for spring and fall.
Back on topic: all of the items I purchased will work together with slim or cropped pants, black skirts, black tank tops, that I already own. I bought the 2 inexpensive but good-looking vinyl handbags because I need to stop looking for affordable leather versions. Most of the items in my current teal-colored leather handbag are in handbag organizers, and can be easily transferred. I’m going for variety!
There was only one item that I really wanted, but didn’t buy. It was a black and white print swirly skirt. I’ll buy it if I see it marked down a lot more!
$100 for so many items is very very well spent! And it’s good you pick items that can go with the others you already have. I tend to do that too with tops or bottoms.
The thing I find with shopping is, it comes with mood as well as luck. But, I don’t always find what I want if I’m in the mood. Rather, I tend to be able to find things I like when I’m just window shopping.
i wish, i wish i can be so disciplined; my wardrobe is way too big (altho’ nothing compared to what some people have in their walk-ins) and i’m trying trying to shop wisely, which means no blogshops, no compromise on quality no matter how cheap, and no trendy stuff. but i still end up with multiple basics, which i love and wear…
Basics are good…I keep going back to those as well. They’re always functional and very worthy of the initial investment value.
Wow! This is great! I shared it on fb. Thanks for sharing this!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you find it useful.
this is great! i hate big wardrobes ’cause i tend to second guess whatever i’m wearing most of the time, so it eats up a lot of time going through different looks. this is budget friendly too since you can create more than 2 months’ worth of looks with a small base of clothing, and so i can focus more on buying clothes that are classic staples. (i used to buy clothes which can be worn in 3 ways, so i’m looking to discover if i can wear my clothes MORE than 3 ways..)
Yes, it’s very budget friendly. I caught a local variety program promoting this sort of basic staples and rotating them to create more outfits. It was very useful and I like such ideas especially with office wear.
I used to have a huge wardrobe but has cut down for the past few years. Nowadays I spent more time on my skincare & haircare routine or makeup & don’t really bother with what I wear to work as long as it fits the term “office attire”.
I try not to spend too much on office attire. I prefer to spend my money on casual wear.
Wow! Thank you so much for featuring this guide!
It’s a labor of love to put these together, and the feedback here on your site is wonderful to read.
What I love about this system is that once I get these twelve garments in place, I can spend my hard-earned money on the focus pieces and accessories to really tailor my wardrobe style to ME.
*smiles*
Thank you again!
You’re welcome Heather! You were very generous to offer the guide free and I can tell it was very well thought out. Thanks for sharing the useful wardrobe tips!
