Share: what’s your favorite facial moisturizer?

I’ve been asked a number of times to recommend a facial moisturizer and I’m always stumped for an answer and nothing comes to my mind. Because for about two years now, I rarely use moisturizer on my face. Other than the range from True Beauty, I’ve been using mostly facial oils, serums and sunscreens. In fact, most of my sunscreens double up as a facial moisturizer for me.

If I can remember correctly, the last moisturizer I used may have been John Master Organics Mandarin Maximum Moisture. However, because most people find this moisturizer quite rich, so I hardly recommend the product even though I had liked it.  And while I have tried other moisturizers before, but my views on these products have changed so much that I no longer feel it’s my place to recommend them.

So ladies, I need your help here. What’s a good facial moisturizer you have tried and would recommend?  The product doesn’t necessary have to be of natural or organic formulation but do share with us your skin type so that others who are interested in the product can have a point of reference.

My HG would be Clinelle Moisture Glow. I find myself going back to this baby when I have important gatherings or functions because it suits my skin type perfectly – non-greasy and gets absorbed pretty quickly. And I don’t experience any shine for the whole humid afternoon. No SPF though.

The other would be Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Plump Perfect Moisture Lotion. This is another perfect “second skin”. Very suitable for mature skin (I meant to give to Mum but she didn’t want, heh), it takes a while to sink in but your skin will feel smooth and supple afterwards.

    I swear by these 2 ?

  2. Liesl says:

My favourite day moisturiser would be 100% pure’s tinted moisturiser.
My skin is clear but very sensitive to most products (except good quality organic products so far) and if I uses the wrong product, inflammed tiny cyst like rashes will pop out within the hours. This is one product which calms my skin, gives me some uv protection and color, even though it might feels a bit rich on touch, it is well absorbed by the skin with some massage and does not feel greasy. Best of all (in my case), it makes me look like I am well rested and has plumped up radiant skin. Hence, by far this is my favourite and only moisturiser I’m using. Other times, I’m using serums and oils too!

i use a basic night moisturizer from Shiseido’s The Skincare range. it’s a simple moisturizer; I use either the light version or the regular version for my oily-combi skin depending on what it feels like. i like how the fragrance is very light, non-intrusive and the product has a slight gel-like texture to it so is not too heavy. it also moisturizes well. The only downside is price even though I usually grab it for around $50 at Changi DFS…for this price, there are comparable moisturizers at the drugstores if you have a tighter budget. I just like the overall texture of Shiseido a lot

  4. tanveer says:

Ponds Age Miracle Tinted Moisturiser is my fav for daily wear. I have dry skin, and once in a while I do like to slather it with Jergens All Purpose Facial Cream

  5. Hazel says:

I’m sure u know that i love Avalon Organics Lavender Daily Moisturiser. 100% Pure Organic Pomegranate Antioxidant Hydration Spf 20 is also a handy moisturiser coz of the added titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

  6. Anita says:

Grew very fond of AHA moisturizers over the last half year. Been trying one from Etsy’s Skinjourney which was amazing! When I run out with it I switched to http://www.etsy.com/transaction/31528483 .. because it has an added SPF30. Love this cream very much right now! I think AHA moisturizers make my skin super smooth and my complexion is amazing! I hardly ever get pimples since I use those.

  7. Rina says:

I love using garnier light whiten and protect moisturizing cream. It does helps to lighten scars and even out skin tone. The lemon smell is very nice and refreshing. It keeps the face moisturized and it is most suitable for dry skin.

  8. Sparklewolfie says:

I use Nu Skin skin conditioning gel as my moisturizer ? Even though my cheeks are dry, I like to use gel moisturizers! It still feels better and absorbs better and feels good ?

  9. Rennie says:

As of now I don’t use moisturizers and use serums instead that double as a moisturizer. However there’s two I had tried which I thought was really suitable for my combination/acne prone skin.

    1) Clinique Dramatically Different gel
    2) Juju Aquamoist Vitamin C cream.

  10. yay says:

i had been using sunscreen alot…. it’s already too much oil already on my face…. so i don’t use facial moisturizer on my face during summer time…. i usually use dove for moisturizer during winter….

p.s. are u feeling better with the rash?

  11. sesame says:

Yeah, I read your review on EA’s lotion. Sounds good. I used to use their skin care and makeup range in the early years actually but of course the range has now expanded to include more products.

  12. sesame says:

I’ve heard so much about 100% Pure I must give some of their body products a try one day.

  13. sesame says:

I’m not into Shiseido’s skincare range but am currently using their foundation powder and like it quite a lot. Agree that their price is mid to high so not considered affordable.

  14. sesame says:

I haven’t tried either but some of Jergens’ products did catch my eye.

  15. sesame says:

Yes, I know. ? You’re another 100% Pure fan? I must give some of their products a try soon.

  16. sesame says:

Oh yeah, AHA does help to give smooth complexion…just that it’s also photosensitive. So it’s great you’re using one with SPF30.

  17. sesame says:

Oh I’ve tested some of Garnier’s products at the counter and yes, I like the lemon smell.

  18. sesame says:

I think I might have tried one or two of their products before although that was years back. Not bad based on my impression.

  19. sesame says:

I used the Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion when I was in my early 20s. I like the yellow color! Heh.

  20. Astarte says:

I’m 19 and have slightly acne prone sensitive skin. My skin tends to quickly dry out or suddenly oil up if I use a product that is even slightly harsh. My acne is mostly due to sensitivity to sun and dehydration of skin.

I currently use Himalaya Herbals Face Moisturizing Lotion and absolutely love it. It’s very light and absorbs faster than any other moisturizer I have used. It also has a very faint herbal scent and doesn’t feel greasy or too rich at all. And best of all, it works for me. Just a week later it rehydrated my skin dramatically, the clogged pores I had started to unclog because my skin was now moist enough to properly help my pores excrete whatever it needs to without clogging up. Another good thing is that this lotion comes in large bottles and is very cheap. Around 5 Euros for a 150ml bottle.

They are also starting an organic product line, which I plan to try out as soon as it comes to the stores.

  21. sesame says:

Thanks Yay…my rashes seem to have stabilized and are drying up. Maybe it’s cos of the flu cos I’m still fighting the bug.

And I’m like you; my sunscreen is enough to moisturize so I don’t use any more other than two to three drops of oil underneath.

  22. sesame says:

We get the Himalaya Herbal range here too. I’ve read some positive reviews on their facial wash for those acne prone so I’m be keen to check out when their organic product line launches.

  23. Liesl says:

    Do take a look at:
http://www.puritycosmetics.com.sg/ or buds cosmetics if u are interested in trying out 100% pure products.
You might just love their body care products as much as I do too. My favouriteS are their many body wash and I really love their pineapple face scrub and euculyptus body scrub to bits. Hmm… Love their new foundation as well as their lip butters and creamy eye shadows too.. Think I’m raving too much. I’m spoilt for choice! 

  24. ladeda says:

i’ve been using the Trevarno rose and jojoba face moisterizer with spf 15 and really like it. i would recommend it to those with dry skin like myself – it really makes my skin look less dull.

  25. Nadine says:

I love Avalon’s Organic Vitamin C Renewal cream and eye cream also. I have oily/combination skin but it absorbs completely and I don’t have any problems with it. I use them at night and wake up to soft glowing skin. I introduced it to my mother-in-law who has sensitive skin and she uses it too now. Price is really reasonable considering the vitamin C.

  26. Dee says:

I absolutely love Clinique Dramatically Moisturizing Gel w/ Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 60 PA+++. Its the only combo that doesn’t leave oily throughout the day.

  27. Ana says:

I have an oily skin so my moisturiser is hyaluronic acid serum (from a Taiwanese brand: UNT skincare) and I put a anti-acne cream on it (from an Indian brand: Jovees). And of course I follow with a sunscreen (Kao Bioré Perfect Face Milk SPF50). A pretty great combo! ?

  28. sesame says:

Thanks for the link. I’ll make a trip to Bud to check out. I haven’t been to their new store at Mandarin Gallery.

  29. sesame says:

That sounds nice but it’s not a product I’ve come across. Will search the Net for it. ?

  30. sesame says:

Oh Avalon’s…sounds like a good product too especially it contains vitamin C.

  31. sesame says:

Sounds perfect…I used Shiseido Sun Protection SPF30 before. It was milky and pretty good. I never went back to them because I didn’t like the SA’s attitude when she served me in the store. Too bad for me…and for them too.

  32. sesame says:

Your anti-acne cream sounds so interesting. Where did you get it?

  33. Yvette says:

I absolutely love Ole Henriksen’s Sheer Transformation Moisturizer. I have combination skin and this is perfect because it doesn’t make my skin oily but it keeps it comfortably moisturized. It also helps with hyperpigmentation and significantly reduced the amount of redness on my face. It’s also for the most part natural. good stuff!

  34. Ana says:

I buy it on an English website:
    http://www.pointpharmacy.com/shop/Jovees-anti-acne-pimple-cream.html
This is a really good day cream. And it’s Ayurvedic.

  35. N says:

Definitely Jurlique Balancing Day Care Cream, its the best and you only need the tiniest bit for each application. It lasts forever if you get the 100ml tube.

  36. Jasmine says:

I rarely use a moisturizer in the day — a thicker, more viscous serum-gel does the job for me. My only moisturizers are for night use … and I rotate a lot between them, so they’re not anything to recommend ?

  37. Ms. Blacklace says:

Right at this moment, I really like using seabuckthorn oil as my night moisturizer. I have used clinque, Witch, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil and camellia seed oil. So far, seabuckthorn is the best one I’ve used. Moisturizing, but not too rich, my skin has never been clearer. And I love using Neroli Hydrosol to spread the oil. But I can’t get it all the time because of the season. So right now I’m using Lavender. Gonna try Chamomile next.

  38. happyangel says:

Can I ask if you hare using seabuckthorn oil with another carrier oil or by itself. Can I ask where you purchased it?

    Thanks

  39. sesame says:

Oh I’ve seen the Ole Henriksen one around here. Sounds interesting.

  40. sesame says:

Thanks for sharing the link Ana! Will have a look. It sounds too intriguing.

  41. sesame says:

I have heard good things about this one too. I’ve only tried their cleanser and two other products…their products are rather expensive here.

  42. sesame says:

I see…I use a serum in the night over my anti-aging oil. No moisturizer in the day or night for me.

  43. sesame says:

Oh SeaBuckthorn oil is great! I love it too but the smell was too strong. The one I used left a temporary stain on my skin so I only used it in the night.

  44. sesame says:

You can get seabuckthorn oil from whoopeekiddies.com. You can use it on its own. But this version leaves a temporary yellowish stain so best to use it in the night.

  45. Ms. Blacklace says:

    Yes it is!!!

I use seabuckthorn oil on its own.

It didn’t stain my face too bad though. I pretty fair, so the stain lasted for around 10mins and it got absorbed and my face was back to it’s original color.

I use only 2 drops and I wet my hands with hydrosol to help it to spread and water down the smell. It’s a very light oil, but do not underestimate it because it’s moisturizing power is awesome. 3 drops, and I will wake up to an oily face. 2 drops, and I will wake up with a moisturized dewy face.

  46. Michelle says:

I swear by Arbonne’s Swiss Advanced Re9 anti-aging serum and spf20 moisturizer. They just rolled out their new line about 5 months ago. They are 100% vegan, all-natural and contain the latest cell-rejuvenation technology out there. Most importantly, they contain essential oils to moisturize and more essential elements that you can’t find in any other skin care (in my humble opinion, because I’ve been looking). The serum has a slight skin tightening effect, combined with the moisturizing in it, I would marry it! Unfortunately, you can only purchase the product online or from a distributor in the UK, USA, Canada or Australia right now.

  47. sesame says:

Oh that sounds like an interesting product. I’m all for natural products that can penetrate our skin using special technology.

  48. cluvy says:

I don’t exactly use moisturizer in the day due to my work environment. Instead, I’m using John Masters Organics bearberry oily skin balancing face serum on top of spraying 100% pure organic white tea rose soother toner. It’s a gel based serum which absorbs really quickly and it doubles up as a spot treatment too. It’s been almost a month since I’ve started using it and ? pretty happy with the results.

  49. sesame says:

I do like John Masters Organics range but so far only tried their vit C and Mandarin Moisturizer. This one you’re using sounds like a good product too.

  50. Chukulec says:

I’m currently using Suki serum and Marie Veronique anti-aging oil. I’m not sure whether to use the serum before or after the oil. MV directions say to use the serum after the oil but Suki directions say to use the serum before moisturizer.

  51. sesame says:

I think either way is fine. I’ve not tried Suki’s serum but if the texture is very thin, then you might want to use it before the oil. I use the same anti-aging oil and then a skin lightening serum. Sometimes I reverse the order.

  52. pf1123 says:

Come to think of it, I don’t use moisturiser at night. Hehee…I use a brightening serum and either the Clarins Facial shaping lift or my Istrilene collagen cream.

In the morning, I like to use my phytocean moisture matte gel before my sunblock and then makeup. They become very good makeup bases.

  53. sesame says:

Oh you’re using the Clarins Facial Shaping Lift? I just came across some positive comments on it via tweets.

  54. pf1123 says:

Yes. After using for about a month or 2, a couple of friends commented my face taking on the V shape in real life and after seeing one of my profile pics (with the pink top and new hair cut).

You can check out my photos on fb.

I’m not sure if it is due to that or my exercise regime or my effors to drink more water to get rid of water retention.
