Share: what time at night do you put on skin care?

Hazel of Hazelnutt House posed a question to her readers recently asking them if they reapply skin care products before bed.  I thought it was very interesting and decided to hijack the topic today. Before reading her entry, I didn’t give much thoughts to the time I apply my skin care products at night. I usually take a bath and apply my skin care products in the evening and just leave it as that. Sometimes, this routine means one hour before bedtime but sometimes, it can be three hours before I actually go off to bed. Either way, rarely do I wash my face again or reapply my skin care products before bedtime.

12 ways to protect your skin cells

So yesterday, I showed you that the saying “beauty is more than skin deep” rings true. Even scientists at Beiersdorf laboratories, who created the NIVEA VISAGE DNAge Cell Renewal range to stimulate healthy skin cell renewal, agreed that 80% of skin aging is a result of external influences such as diet, lifestyle, pollutants and exposure to sunlight which lead to damages at the skin cells. I have no idea if their products really work in terms of improving the skin’s cellular renewal process but today, I’ll like to examine how we can control those external influences to improve the health of our skin cells and make ourselves look better.

Youthful skin starts from healthy skin cells

I was never good in science or biology but I do know that the cell is the functional basic unit of our life. And because skin is the human body’s largest organ, this naturally means that if we are able to maintain healthy cells, we can have better looking skin. This is the reason why many experts, including leading dermatologists like Dr Nicolas Perricone and Dr Jeanette Graf have been encouraging healthy diets for beautiful skin.  Today, I’ll share with you eight facts that I’ve found about our skin cells.

Elemental Herbology Biodynamic Facial Souffle

I was introduced to UK-based Elemental Herbology range of products when I visited Sccube The Apothecary for a facial in August. While not organic, the range is 95 per cent natural, containing botanical, mineral and marine ingredients. What’s also interesting about the range is that the products are formulated under three categories – Summer Daily Essentials, Winter Daily Essentials and Essential Skin Therapy – because founder, Kristy Goodger, understands that our skin changes according to the seasons. We don’t have the different seasons in Singapore so obviously the Essential Skin Therapy range works best for us to nurture over-exposed skin all year round.

Matryoshka dolls go organic & eco friendly

So I got my first 100% organic cotton tee and it just has to be one with the Matryoshka dolls. The Etrican top is made with 100% certified organic cotton, which is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and from plants which are not genetically modified. So this top is both environmentally friendly and supposedly kinder to my health, since it is free from toxic chemicals usually used in the production process of regular cotton.
