Share: how regularly do you exercise?

Besides keeping us fit and our body toned, exercising regularly is actually important for our skin as it increases blood circulation and delivers skin-building nutrients and oxygen supplies to the epidermis. This is why our skin glow and look radiant immediately after some form of activities. Apart from that, regular exercising can help us to fight stress, sleep better and lift up our mood. A number of you also tell me that exercising helps keep your PMS at bay.

However, a lot of people are also lazy to exercise and I’m one of them. While I do know that there are many benefits to engaging in some form of activities, I’m reluctant to make the additional effort to step out of my home. But, at least I bought myself a mini trampoline and have been jumping on it frequently. I started rebounding on a trampoline because it is a low impact exercise that allows me to keep fit within my home. Some of its benefits include:
– stimulating the flow of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system
– strengthening every cell in our body
– firming and increasing skin  elasticity
– toning the body and helping to get rid of cellulite
– increasing metabolism
– fighting fatigue

This is probably the longest activity I’ve kept myself at but even then, I’m been lagging. It used to be 30 minutes daily but recently, I got lazy again and so it’s only 20 minutes and even then, I’m not on it every day. I really need to get my momentum back again.

So I’m curious to know how many of you exercise on a frequent basis. What do you do and do you enjoy the activity?

About 3 times a week, used to be 5 but I got lazy. ? I go to YouTube, then I use one of the Latin Dance, Belly Dance or whatever dance for fitness on my playlist. It is fun so that I won’t get bored or give up because there is always something new to learn.

  2. CT says:

I exercise at least 3 times a week. 2 hot yoga and 1 combat. But i dont see myself firming up much!

  3. Ame:Sha says:

I exercise for the most part 4-5 times per week. I love love love doing workout videos so I am able to workout inside my home just like you stated. I love doing kickboxing exercises and I also lift weights about 2-3 times a week to keep my body toned and tight. I do this for about 40 minutes. For an easy laid back exercise I go outside and walk around with friends.

can i ask u if excessive sweating will make our skin breakout if we are prone to acne/rashes in the 1st place?
I hesitated 2exercise regularly last time bcos of such fear..

But now I got a new interest dancing hip hop n haven been sweating regularly.. I heard exercising produce happy hormones called endorphins tats it can help us destress..

  5. sesame says:

Oh Latin and Belly dancing! That’s definitely fun! ?

  6. sesame says:

What’s hot yoga? Sounds very intriguing.

  7. sesame says:

I haven’t tried kickboxing but it comes across as rather rigorous to me. So 40 minutes of lifting weight and kickboxing…wow, I admire you.

  8. sesame says:

I think if you cleanse your face well, then the perspiration shouldn’t hurt especially if you’re not using makeup while exercising. Actually perspiring is good because it’s a way to detox too. And you’re right…it’s a good way to de-stress!

  9. yl says:

i recently started doing hot yoga twice a week and its great! my skin has also improved, which was an unexpected benefit of the whole thing (: its basically yoga in a heated studio of about 38-42 degrees

  10. Anita says:

I go to the gym 2 times a week and go jogging 2 – 3 times a week. I’ve been doing so for 9 years now. But it didn’t make a big change for my skin to be honest. Especially last year I even was on training for a half-marathon and had the worst skin since I was a teenager. I had really mad acne all over my face. Even though I did train a lot. So the urban legend “training is good for your skin” absolutely died for me. I mainly train to stay in shape. But not for my skin. I guess its better that you look out keeping your stress-level low and eat healthy most of the time.

Basically 2 or 3 times to the gym each week. New Body at Amore and Body Combat at California Fitness. I’m looking forward to try Pilates and Body Balance once my schedule works out.

I also walk home from 1 mrt station away. 3.6km. For >4 nights a week.

I have water retention problem. So trying to sweat it out a lot. Hopefully can keep to my routine.

  12. AtelierGal says:

These days I’m too tired to do anything. The only exercise I get is in the form of walking Milo. Having him dragged me all over the field, haha! ?

  13. yay says:

is it just me? because since i started exercising i noticed i got some cellulite…. at first it wasn’t that noticeable but now it’s definitely noticeable =( the only thing i can think of is stretching from yoga and exercising in general…. i’m hoping u can do some tips on cellulite…..

  14. sesame says:

Thanks for explaining what is hot yoga to me. Sounds interesting but must be quite sweaty. But glad that it’s benefiting your skin. The increased circulation must have brought some radiance and improved your skin tone.

  15. sesame says:

Your training could have been excessive? I read that it is not good to over exercise as it can cause free radical damage too. In one of the books I read, it says 20 mins a day is just about right. But what you mentioned is true, diet and stress are also important to maintain healthy skin. I guess the overall equation got to be right.

  16. sesame says:

Yeah, I get the impression that you exercise quite a bit. Walking home but not in heels right? ?

  17. sesame says:

Might be good to start something cos you do sound like you’re overworked these days. The exercising must help relieve some of the tensions you’re experiencing…maybe jump a bit around with Milo? ?

  18. sesame says:

Oh that’s new…I’m stumped for an answer cos I thought exercising would help tone the body more and even reduce cellulite. I’ve learnt that cellulite could be caused by blockage of the lymphatic system so maybe that’s something you want to look into. By right, yoga should help to improve the lymphatic drainage isn’t it?

  19. pf1123 says:

No, I bring my Fit Flops along to change.

Although I exercise quite a bit these days but didn’t loose weight. Coz I like to eat. hehehe…

  20. Natalja says:

That’s Bikram Yoga when you do poses in about 105F heat. And sweating your bootie off.

  21. sesame says:

I wish we can trade weight…I need more weight gain.

  22. sesame says:

Natalja: Oh I see…I’ve read about Bikram but have no idea what it is. The only yoga I’ve ever tried was hatha yoga and that bored me to tears…(cos I was yawning so much).

  23. Pame says:

eeks, i feel so embarassed. i havent been exercising for like 3 years? just the regular long walks home. and maybe short cycling at the beach once in a few months, hahaha. just too lazy! kept telling myself “i’ll do it tomorrow, or the day after.. or maybe weekends……..” but in the end i’ll still end up doing shopping. hahhaa.

  24. pf1123 says:

Perhaps you can exercise more. Coz exercise will help you to increase metabolism, muscle mass and reduce fat. Muscle is heavier than fat. If you keep your food intake constant, then you will gain weight but from the muscle mass and lose fat. But your size wld roughly be still the same.

At least thats what I read and also happening to me. Hehehee…

  25. Hayashi says:

I have to admit … not exercising for about 2 yrs now. I used to go to gym and do some cycling. After my face acne problem, I stopped. I keep having the thoughts that the sweat may clog the pore! And/or redden the active zits/scar somehow.

  26. Rinka says:

argh embarassing for me ? i walk maybe 10 minutes to the bus stop in the mornings on week days, then i walk around my university to get to my classes… id say i get about 30 minutes walking time everyday? its walking out of necessity though, not really purposely for exercise hehe

i do try to do pilates (i have the windsor pilates dvd) but its hard to get motivated sometimes…especially when you know its gonna hurt really bad!

  27. Ann says:

I go to the gym say about twice a week and do cycling, run on treadmill and do others as well….i don’t overdo it to be honest. Apart from this when I am in the college, i make sure I am eating salads and taking stairs and I walk a lot. There is all standing job so I guess that burns calories as well. Also spending that energy with the kid might be consuming calories…lol. My faveourite is climbing the stairs and walking briskly.

  28. Swathy says:

I am a very lazy person and cannot even get up before 9 some days. So, it becomes really difficult to exercise on such days. I try to be regular with yoga but as usual get behind it in a few days only. Thinking of starting it again recalling how good it feels when you have had any form of exercise in the morning. Hopefully, I stick to it this time.

  29. sesame says:

Shopping is one way to exercise according to some. They call it trekking at the malls. ?

  30. sesame says:

I don’t think it’ll affect your acne too much…who knows…exercising might help you detox.

  31. sesame says:

I know how you feel…it is quite hard to sustain such activities. We need some mental discipline to keep going. So I was hoping the comments here might help cos others who are exercising regularly can inspire us.

  32. sesame says:

You’re good! At least you have a consistent regime. But now that you mentioned about spending energy with the kid, I think doing housework does help one exercise too as I do feel quite good mopping and scrubbing on some days.

  33. sesame says:

Yeah, try to develop some sort of routine. Have to keep ourselves motivated to keep going. I was quite good for a period for this week, I hardly did much.

  34. anita says:

Might not be I have been exercising too much but I guess the stress prevailed. So like you say .. you got to keep everything in balance in your life to maintain a radiant skin.

  35. fwy says:

I try to walk halfway to work or back home on a daily basis. A GP did mentioned to me that excessive sweating could worsen my already sensitive skin. So I carry a pack of wet wipes to clean the sweat around my face & neck.

  36. sesame says:

Because of my recent body rashes, I noticed that my skin itched a lot when I exercise and perspire.

  37. deb says:

i’m all over the place…before i would exercise 3-5 times a week with a rotation of 2-3 exercise videos i downloaded or bought from exersicetv.com (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BTW!)

I have dehydrated/dry skin and I found out how essential it was for me to sweat during a work out. It helps my skin SO MUCH and is now my main motivation for working out. Unfortunately i’ve been a bit down in the dumps so I haven’t been exercising as much.

It is a bit hard to start up if you haven’t done it for awhile and it’s astonishing how tired the body becomes hwen you stop for more than a week or two. Videos I could blast through fairly easily are suddenly taking me to the brink of death! LOL,

  38. sesame says:

Good to know that exercising is helping your skin improve. That’s great news! I’m starting again this week, after stopping for a week. Start with 15 mins and hopefully, can increase to 30.

  39. sarynkay says:

I absolutely love bikram yoga since i started a few months ago and I try to go at least 5 times a week if can. It’s incredibly addictive and is like a cardiovascular, toning and strengtening workout all at the same time!

  40. meandmyTHRILLS says:

I experienced frequent joint aches and decided to start exercising a year ago. I do jogging for around 30mins, twice a week in the morning. It does helps to reduce my problematic aches.

  41. Maddysmum says:

I’m ashamed that I have not been exercising for long time. I’m 8.5 mo pregnant now, but that is not really an excuse. I really have to start another baby step to exercise once I am done with confinement. Even if its just a yoga video at home like what I used to do when I had no time to go to the gym.

  42. sesame says:

Would be good to exercise when you’ve delivered. It’ll help to bring your body back to shape more easily.

  43. joey says:

3x a wk at least, from yoga to pilates to dance, and absolutely loving it!

  44. sesame says:

That’s great…and this reminds me that I haven’t done anything this week!

  45. Luvahgilahsa says:

I don’t exercise much at all, but i came to this page because of Charlene Choi’s picture ?
    lol
It’s a shame that my idol is the spokesperson for Adidas yet I never exercise…

  46. sesame says:

Well, maybe you can get motivated now? ?
