Review: new haul from Marie Veronique Organics

Thanks to a special promo code, I ordered my usual staples of the Moisturizing Face Screen SPF30, Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement and the Anti-Aging Oil Plus as well as some new products from Marie Veronique Organics some time end of last year and the beginning of this year. The new products I ordered included the Exfoliating Cleanser, the Sun Protective Oil and the Moisture Serum. So here’s my review of them all.

First of all, let me say again that I love their products because they meet my criteria of natural formulations with no toxic ingredients, chemical synthetics, fragrances, waxes, silicones or alcohol. Yet while keeping their formulations natural, the company also adds useful ingredients with cosmeceutical benefits to target specific skin concerns. So how did these new products I tried perform for me?

Marie Veronique Organics Exfoliating Cleanser 120ml US$35

Active ingredients: AHA Lactic acid 1%, BHA Black willowbark, 1%
Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), adzuki bean powder, Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera gel), vegetable glycerin, xantham gum, potassium sorbate, raw honey, colloidal oatmeal, rice bran powder, spirulina, marshmallow root, Irish moss, kelp, lactic acid, Salix nigra (black willowbark) extract, Rosemary oleoresin, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) essential oil

Sometime last year, the company wanted to send this complimentary to me for review but I declined then because I wasn’t interested in a daily exfoliation product. However, I decided to order this time out of curiosity, and also to make up for my purchase to meet a certain amount. If my memory serves me well, then this cleanser smells exactly like the Gentle Cleanser. Those who have tried it would agree that it has a lovely scent of lavender and so is very soothing to the senses. It’s very gentle as the beads are rather fine and so I had no concerns with over scrubbing although I don’t use this daily even though I’m tempted to; I only use it when I need a scrub and that is about twice a week now. My skin always feels cleaner, softer and yet, not drying after using this. I find the price rather reasonable too and the big bottle will probably last me quite a while.

Marie Veronique Organics Sun Protective Oil 30ml US$70

Ingredients: Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), capric/caprylic triglycerides (fractionated coconut oil), Persea americana (avocado oil), Sesamum indicum (sesame oil), Vitus viniferi (grapeseed oil, expeller-pressed), Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam seed oil), emu oil, Borago officinalis (borage oil), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Calodendrum Capense (yangu oil), Brassica oleracea (broccoli seed oil), Punica granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Sclerocarya birrea (marula oil), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn oil), Calophyllum inophyllum (Tamanu oil), Rosemary oleoresin, lecithin, astaxanthin, Euphasia superba (krill oil), Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil, Cananga odorata (ylang ylang) essential oil, Curcuma longa Rhizome (curcuma) essential oil

I was using the MVO Anti-Aging Oil Plus beneath the Moisturizing Face Screen and was happy with it. However, I’m always on the lookout for more protective products in the day and so this one caught my eye. In terms of ingredients, the Anti-Aging Oil Plus had served me well but this one had other types of beneficial oils like coconut oil, which is good for fighting free radicals and aiding skin healing and repair. The other oils like emu, broccoli seed, red raspberry seed and yangu are also good in providing extra UV protection so I get more peace of mind using this along with the Moisturizing Face Screen. This is oil all right, and so about two to three drops is good enough to be used and I use it underneath my Moisturizing Face Screen, which is meant to be sitting on top of the skin. It has a light scent and the two to three drops I apply do not make my skin oily or greasy. I would describe it as just nice and I love it. A bit pricey but the ingredients are all good stuff.

Marie Veronique Organics Moisture Serum 30ml US$80

Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Vitus viniferi (grapeseed oil, expeller-pressed), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), vegetable glycerin, arabinogalactin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), kombucha extract, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) extract, dipotassium glycyrrhizate (licorice) extract, uva ursi (bearberry) extract, gum tragacanth, potassium sorbate, xantham gum, Cosmocil CQ*, Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle), niacinamide, beta glucan, Rosemary oleoresin, Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Lavendula angustifolia (lavender) essential oil

I had wanted to get the Skin Lightening Serum but settled for this, which retails for about half the price. The ingredients look good to me as although the product is formulated to increase hydration, it also has ingredients to help with skin repair. In addition, I was planning to use this together with the Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement and so it would help in terms of brightening and evening my skin tone too. By virtue of its name, this product contains humectants that increase the epidermal water content so as to allow our skin to retain moisture. So I only use this together with an oil and no more moisturizer after that. It is definitely more hydrating that the Skin Lightening Serum but I find I have to be carefuly using this around my eyes for I noticed a tiny red bump near my eyebrow after a few days of using it (I have a habit of dabbing most of my stuff around my eyes). Other than that, I’m happy to use this serum.

Marie Veronique Organics Skin Lightening Vitamin C Supplement US$60

Active ingredients: l-ascorbic acid, kojic acid, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, n-acetyl glucosamine, niacinamide. Inactive ingredients: food starch

I have reviewed this product before and at that time of review, I gave this product a low rating. However, I’m already into my third bottle so that just goes to show I do love this product and it’s time to revise my rating. In my earlier review, I mentioned that I like the results that this product brought about but just didn’t like the powdery residue it left behind. Well, I still do not like the powdery residue it leaves behind but I really enjoy the benefits very much. I mix one capsule together with the Moisture Serum and then just pat into my skin. It is really doing something for my skin as I noticed that it has improved the elasticity of my skin. In addition, my skin always look brighter the morning after using this. So I was using it almost daily but I will stop to test another product soon. But rest assure, I’m be coming back to use this product again and again!

Overall summary
I’m really happy with these new products I’ve purchased as they’re serving me well. I think many of you who have tried the Marie Veronique Organics range will agree with me that their products are rather good stuff. And for those with problems using the Moisturizing Face Screen, the best is to use the product with an oil underneath. Otherwise, try patting it into your skin before blending. I tried that method when I was using the Face Screen with the Madara moisturizer and it worked nicely for me.

I tried the Exfoliating Cleanser and didn’t like it. Even though it’s not drying, it doesn’t really exfoliate my skin

  2. espenine says:

    Hi,

May I know if you apply any additional products on your face prior to Anti-Aging Oil Plus and Moisturising Face Screen?

    TIA

  3. sesame says:

Just a toner before Anti-Aging Oil Plus. ?

  4. sesame says:

I find it okay because of the ingredients and it’s gentle enough. I guess it depends on skin type. My is a bit thin and so it’s best not to use anything too strong.

  5. Swathy says:

hey Sesame…how much do they charge you for shipping to Singapore??

  6. Ellie-B says:

I’ve said this before on your blog, but I love MVOrganics!

I use the exfoliating cleanser twice a day, and it does wonders for my skin… I have never had issues with dryness or oiliness since. I get so many compliments on my skin, and I thank it all to MVOrganics (and also a quite healthy lifestyle).

I took advantage of the deal they have going on at the moment, too. I love the supplements, they’re so unique and effective.

  7. sesame says:

It’s US$16 for 1 – 3 lbs but remember they offer free shipping above US$250 of purchase.

  8. sesame says:

I really love their stuff! If not for the fact that I’m a blogger and have to test out new products, I’ll just stick to using their products cos they work for me.

  9. heather says:

hi, thanks for your recommendation on MV sunscreen. i manage to get my hands on it and i love it alot! its my HG sunscreen now! i usually apply avg underneath the sunscreen to make it more matte ?

  10. sesame says:

I’m so glad that the sunscreen works for you! I use oil underneath and it’s okay for me. Not oily. But I normally put on some face powder.

  11. LatestGirls says:

Cleansers LOL. At first sight of those pics I thought they were wine bottles.

  12. sesame says:

Haha…I had some readers commented they look like wine bottles when I first reviewed them too.

  13. kellly says:

I love MVO’s products. I can’t wait till you review MVO’s Redness Remedy. Thats next on my list to try.

  14. MissQ says:

hello Swathy. if you can wait, i am planning for a group purchase with MVO in mid March. Drop me an email at lingyang12@yahoo.com.sg if you are keen ok. ?

  15. sesame says:

    Another fan! *high five*

I’m not trying the redness remedy – I have no issues with redness. Perhaps someone else may have tried and can share their views here?

  16. Mary says:

hi, I’m 18 years old, i never care about my face, but when I read some about asian’s skin fact, It makes me curious and I want to makes my face beautiful like others girls too. Can u help me?

and Can I use this in my age?

  17. sesame says:

You can use some of the basic cleanser, sun protective oil and Moisturizing Face Screen. Don’t think you need too much.

  18. kelly says:

I don’t have a redness problem but I liked that the redness remedy is for sensitive skin and I also like the antioxidants in it.I’ve tried a sample of mvo’s repair serum and it made my skin itchy.I will probaly buy it after my current serum is gone.btw mvo’s eye serum is lovely.

  19. Lianna says:

I’m surprise you would use product with kojic acid. If I’m not wrong, it’s banned in EU. See this http://ec.europa.eu/health/ph_risk/committees/04_sccp/docs/sccp_o_148.pdf

  20. sesame says:

My understanding is the ingredient may cause sensitivity with long term usage for some people so this is why I don’t use this product continuously. In fact, I didn’t use it every day. Well, there are compromises I make…I figured out that most whitening ingredients causes skin sensitivity somewhat and sometimes dryness even but I am so far good with this so I’ll continue. Anyway, even vitamin C can cause sensitivity for some skin types. I guess at the end of the day, what we use depends on individual threshold.

  21. Mai says:

    Hi Sesame,

I saw the ST Urban article & was immediately attracted to read your blog. I’m turning 30 soon & am on the look-out for good beauty site to help me overcome skin problems the next BIG stage with confidence..haha.

Anyway, i have been searching for a good sunscreen for ages but have yet to come across 1 that suit me without being greasy or leaving a whitecast. I have medium tone skin so this is definitely a problem for me. I tried Badger sunscreen but had to give it away after a few days of using it. I prefer not to use tinted sunscreen although i’m currently using Beauty Credit’s BB Cream with SPF 30. I recently bought Kielh’s Ultra Light Defense UV Lotion but it is quite expensive – 30ml S$68.

In your opinion, will the MVO Face Screen Plus No Tint work for me?

  22. sesame says:

It will leave some whitecast I believe cos you have medium tone. Also, it’s also pretty expensive if you factor in the shipping. Sunscreens are really tricky. I like this range very much because of the ingredients and it works for me. Kiehl’s is good just that it is a chemical sunscreen, not a mineral sunscreen. If you’re for chemical sunscreens, I would suggest you take a look at Vichy’s or La Roche-Posay too.

Another mineral sunscreen (using zinc oxide only) is Devita – a few of my readers use it and raved about it. Apparently, it leaves no whitecast but I’m not sure cos I haven’t used it.
    https://www2.devita.net/store/product.php?productid=17534&cat=290&page=1

Only problem is, it’s not available in Singapore. I believe some of the girls get their supply from Garden of Wisdom or iHerb via sprees.

  23. Mai says:

    Hi Sesame,

I dont know much about the difference between chemical & mineral sunscreen but will definitely read up your previous posts on them. My main concern is looking for sunscreen that is effective & suit me.

I don’t really mind a slight whitecast as long as it does not make me look weird. How about the MVO sun serum or oil? Do they have the same cast?

Thanks Sesame. Really appreciate you taking the time to reply my queries ?

  24. sesame says:

Japanese brands might give you the texture you want. Try this one: Mentholatum SUNPLAY Skincare UV Moisture Milk SPF 50 PA+++ that contains no alcohol.
    http://web3.sasa.com/SasaWeb/eng/product/viewProductDetail.jspa?itemno=102485610001

The MVO sun serum has more whitecast actually and the sun protection oil is good enough as a base but will not offer enough protection on its own. It’s good to use under your sunscreen for we usually do not apply enough.

To know the difference between chemical and mineral (aka physical sunblock) sunscreens, you might want to read my post here:

  25. Bee says:

Hi Sesame, have you tried the eye serum? Am wondering if it will cause milia seeds.

    Thanks.

  26. sesame says:

Have tried the sample…no issues with the milia seeds but I used it only for a short while. I didn’t find the eye serum so great for me though.

  27. Mai says:

    Good Sunday 2 y0u Sesame!

    I finally placed my 1st MVO purchase..weee..

I b0ught the Skin Lightening Serum since they had the free Vit. C pr0mo. I als0 asked f0r samples 0f the Face Screen as i’m n0t sure which shade suits me.

    0k s0 my questi0n n0w is, what is the c0rrect steps in applying them? Cleanser, t0ner, face 0il (in my case r0sehip), serum & Vit C? I know it’s n0t advisable 2 apply the Vit C daily but it’s 0k f0r the serum right? If i want 2 apply m0isturizer, when should i d0 that?

  28. sesame says:

They provide detail instructions on the bottle for the usage…in the form of icon. The serum is recommended for night use. For the day, you can continue with your rosehip oil and then the moisturizing facescreen. That should be sufficient.

  29. Mai says:

Thats c00l then. I was navigating their site f0r instructi0ns under the ‘directi0ns’ tab but it wasn’t much 0f a help. Thanks!! I’m super duper excited ?

  30. sesame says:

    I hope you’ll like the products. ?

  31. Swati says:

hey Sesame….I wanted to ask how much of the face screen do you apply daily?like one squirt for your face and neck is enough or more??? just wanted to get an idea how much quantity would be enough !!!
    Swati last post is: Water for Lips {Lip Care}

  32. sesame says:

A squirt for face is enough but I don’t apply to the neck becos I use something else for the neck. You probably need another squirt for the neck.

  33. Nay says:

Hi Sesame, I just wanted to say that this is the first beauty blog I have ever read and after reading many of your reviews, I am hooked! I just bought the anti-wrinkle kit from MVO and I Love it. For the first time in my life I am actually getting results and complements. So thanks for spreading your joy of beauty ?
    Nay

  34. Sesame says:

Oh great! I’m so glad the products work well for you. ?

  35. Kay says:

Hi Sesame, currently I’m comparing this MVOrganics Anti Aging Oil and the Trilogy Rosehip oil. Which do you think is better?

Currently I’m using the kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate and on my way to finishing the second bottle, and would probably try new stuff as I purchase a new bottle of that next year. I’m looking for a serum that helps with preventing lines and also to reduce acne scars. Help me out here? Hahaha.

  36. Sesame says:

Hmm…I prefer MVO. Rosehip Oil on its own seems to turn rancid very quickly and that’s why I don’t use it anymore.

  37. achu says:

How to got it in india…online.

    Vit c skinwhitening supplement
