These Calyspo natural makeup remover I spotted at Carrefour piqued my interest and I stopped to check them out. They reminded me of another product I tried and so I was curious if these are in the same category. I didn’t buy them but from what I can see, they look like sponges to me and I had thought they were designed to be able to remove makeup on their own without any additional cleanser. I later found out that they’re just sponges, to be used with your normal cleanser for taking off your makeup. Oh well, you can’t fault me for having that misconception as they called natural makeup remover right?
Wash and air them properly
So these are for those who like to use something additional to wipe their skin while cleansing rather than using their bare hands. I believe they do help to do a better cleansing job but I’ve also said that you need to make sure you wash these properly and air them well to prevent any bacteria from growing on them. It’s really best to discard them and replace with new ones after some time.
Magic mitt
Anyway, this is the product I was talking about – it’s the Jane Iredale Magic Mitt – that is supposed to quickly and completely remove makeup using NO cleanser. Yes, none whatsoever but just wash the mitt with warm water and then wipe off your makeup. The process is similar to using a facial towel. And the reason why this is said to be gentler is because it uses a special material and so such a cleansing process is not supposed to affect the skin’s natural acid mantle.
Not exactly that gentle
Well, I’ve tried it a couple of times and yes, it does take off foundation makeup and even eye makeup but I don’t consider this cleansing process too gentle. The material of the mitt feels like a soft towel but as you wipe your face with it, you can feel some degree of exfoliation with the rubbing plus it’s not that great for the delicate eye area since you’ll tend to pull the skin when you wipe. In addition, it is not sufficient to use this alone but you still have to follow up with another cleanser to remove all the remaining residue. So I’m thinking – why not just stick to using your hands and cultivate a double cleansing routine using a combination of gentle cleanser, whether they are cleansing lotion, cleansing oil, or foaming cleanser?

So any of you use any of these products or actually prefer to use something additional to clean your face rather than your bare hands? Personally, I’m good with double cleansing, followed by a once or twice a week exfoliation routine – all using my bare hands.

Sounds interesting but I don’t like the 2nd ingredient though. I haven’t seen this around either.
Today I went down to sephora n this fab pore is totally oos.. And they Just arrived early this mth only. Didn’t noe it so popular.
I remove eye makeup with cotton pads and a gentle gel remover. Then I remove the rest of my makeup with a towelette that contains makeup remover. The towelette does exfoliate a bit. Then I use a gentle cleanser with my hands and rinse really well. I exfoliate every few days.
I recently bought a cleansing brush (not Clarisonic) I’m trying. Not sure yet whether I like it.
Ah…I’ve not really tried using towelettes to remove makeup, except when I go for those makeover sessions. Been looking for one that comes with more natural ingredients.
These cleansing brush also seems like a rage…better to use once or twice a week.
Great topic! I used to use 2 sponges for cleansing my face when I have a lot of acne. But recently since my acne is under control I have been kinda lazy.
I am wondering about the Clarisonic. Heard many raves for this cleansing tool. I would love to have this but then at US$149.90, it is too expensive!

Btw, have you used an electronic toothbrush before??? After I started using, I cannot bear to go back to using a regular toothbrush. I only use regular toothbrush when I am travelling and now I feel like taking my electronic one when I travel as well.
May I should get another electronic toothbrush with soft bristles for my face! hahaa…

Are you referring to electronic toothbrush on the face or teeth? I used to use electronic toothbrush but they keep failing after awhile. I also tried on the face but prefer to use it on my nose and chin area and also neck. Bristles got to be soft.

I have gone thu 2 battery operated colgate toothbrush. None has failed on me. I threw them away becoz their handle attracts dirt when I place them lying flat on my sink. Now is my 3rd one. But since I have stick it in a glass at the sink, it is ok. No dirt accumulation at the handle which I can’t wash off.
yeah even I think bare hands are best…I bought the body shop facial buffer for exfoliation…it is so rough on my skin that it actually hurts though the material is not so rough…its just that my skin is extra-sensitive….its easy to simply use hands and do a double cleansing….
I’m rather skeptical about such external cleansing aids…I also think our hands are good enough but some pple do like to keep their skin cleaner with these stuff.
Usually I remove my makeup with a cotton ball or a soft cloth. For my eye makeup I prefer eye makeup remover as the skin around the eyes is very delicate.
Yes, it’s good to be careful with the delicate eye area.
I used to use a washcloth but after awhile, I found it difficult to keep it hygienic. So I’ve stopped that and only use my hands. 🙂
Actually washcloth is useful if not for that hygenic factor. Got to air dry all the time after use.
the cleansing cream that i use now is really good at dislodging at dead skin, but i cant just rub the dead skin off with my bare hands, so now every night i’ll supplement the cleansing routine by wiping my face down with the wet microfibre.
If I remember correctly, you were the one who mentioned that you use a microfibre or the like to wipe your face after using a mask. After learning that, I used the Jane Iredale mitt after I use my mask. Very good! I used to use cotton pads and it was not that good.

indeed. i tried using cotton pads but they are not woven in such a way that they can withstand such actions nor remove dirt and debris unlike actual woven cloths. i’m using the muji unbleached cotton pads half a pad at a time to gently wipe the face using avene mineral spray. somehow their square cotton pads (not the 3 or 5 pressed together one) is quite fluffy and gentle on the skin.
The mitt was given by a makeup artist who also wanted to bring in this for her shop I think. But I don’t think she’s selling it yet. Anyway, she just wanted me to try it. It’s not for review purposes.
I gave up on them. Bought for my son too and they just stopped working after like 2 – 3 months? I was using the one from Oral B previously and it lasted longer.

You should try the Sonicare toothbrushes, they are expensive, but work SO well!! Mine have lasted for 5 years now, just have to change the head. My dentist, says he doesn’t see any plaque on my teeth…
As for Clarisonic, I have been using it on my face once a day everyday for about 6 mos now, and I think it has been helping with the black heads. It takes some getting used to, bc it can feel rough at first, but I notice a cleaner face.
I worry about the vibrations being harmful to my skin, so I wash with hands first, then use a clarisonic after for just a bit. I like how clean i feel after.
I haven’t see Sonicare…or maybe I just didn’t pay attention.
You use Clarisonic daily? I think it’s good to an extent but I really wonder if it’s good to use daily.

I am not sure if it’s sold in Asia, but it works VERY well.
As for the clarisonic, I have very sensitive skin, with some adult acne, and have found the clarisonic, with the “sensitive” brush, to be very effective. My pores look smaller and my blemishes have reduced. I quite like it~
