Nivea Pure & Natural Action Roll-On Deodorant

I don’t think I’ve said this before but I actually like Nivea before I became a natural and organic convert. In fact, I still use the Nivea Dry Comfort Deodorant on some days when I’m in a hurry because it has worked extremely well for me. So imagine my delight when I saw this Jasmine scented Nivea Pure & Natural Action Roll-On Deodorant at Watsons. I can’t call it a natural formulation going by the ingredient list but I was happy enough to use it because it is free from aluminium salts and preservative.

Part of a new range of face & body care products
This deodorant is part of the “Pure & Natural” range of products from Nivea that is supposedly made with ingredients from natural origin, comprising face and body care products. I don’t know if they are launching the full slate in Singapore as so far, I have only spotted the deodorants and lip balms in stores here. I would be curious to see if their face care and body care range are really naturally formulated or are just formulated with lesser chemical synthetics.

Nivea Pure & Natural Action Jasmine Scented Deodorant

Ingredients: Aqua, Propylene Glycol, PPG-15 Stearyl Ether, Steareth-2, Steareth-21, Parfum, Butyloctanoic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Octenidine HCI, Persea Gratissima Oil, Trisodium EDTA.

This deodorant is described as being able to offer one 24-hour intensive protection with its anti-bacterial active ingredient bio-florine, whilst respecting our skin’s nature because it does not clog pores and allows our skin free to breathe naturally. In addition, it is labeled as ‘black shirt friendly’, meaning that it does not stain our clothes.

Offers effective protection
Okay, the l don’t use this Nivea Pure & Natural Action Deodorant for 24 hours but like the Nivea Dry Comfort Deodorant I’ve tried, this works effectively for me for as long as I was wearing it, and I did not smell like a dead fish even after perspiring under the hot sun. As it is a roll-on formula, it is wet when applied but it dries up fairly quickly. I don’t see stains left on my clothes and so I believe it lives up to its promises of being stain friendly. However, I don’t like the Jasmine scent much as it’s far too sweet for my olfactory sense.

Overall summary
I think we’re quite hard press to find a deodorant that is naturally formulated and yet fully effective at the same time and so this is quite a good product for those in the market for a deodorant without too much chemical overload. The only thing that annoys me is the smell and I wish they have introduced one that is non-scented (but granted, this is no anti-perspirant).  But otherwise, I rather like this deodorant and it’s so affordable at S$4.90. Also available at a slightly higher price is the spray formula but I don’t really like spray formulas because they tend to be too drying for my skin due to the higher alcohol content.

So any of you tried this and liking it too?

Have you tried miessence aroma free deodorant? it’s 89% organic and works pretty well

  2. sesame says:

I don’t see Miessence readily available in the stores. They are sold through special channels right? Also, I have issues with those organic and natural ones. Usually work well initially and then stop working or work at best for half a day.

I’m using Erbaviva organic deodorant. It works pretty well on me and I love the scent. It’s expensive but I’m still happy that I bought it. I also recommended this product to a friend since it doesn’t stain the clothes at all, which is important. I think you should try it too, they have two scents available.

  4. sesame says:

Again, I don’t see this over here. Probably can only get it online.

  5. fwy says:

I was told if you drink water with lime or lemon juices regulary, it can help to reduce
body odor due to the presence of a large amount of vitamin-C and Flavonoids in these fruits.

  6. Audris says:

Good price, but I don’t like scented deodorants. Otherwise I’d have given it a try too.

  7. TLE says:

After coming across a DIY swipe recipe, i now have a simplified version to keep fresh and smelling nice- I drop some Tea tree oil on cotton swab and apply directly to the skin. Tingling nice and really effective. Will be trying to mix with witch hazel and use as a spray ;))

I may just get the nivea for daughter (who still prefers convenience of commercial products) if the ingredients are low hazard on EWG’s skin database ;))

  8. sesame says:

I was using that at one stage with baking soda. I posted about it here:
    https://www.vivawoman.net/2009/07/15/diy-beauty-a-simple-homemade-deodorant/

It’s great but can be a little time consuming.

  9. sesame says:

Then you definitely won’t like this.

  10. sesame says:

Oh? That’s interesting! I take quite a bit of vit C and flavonoids in the form of supplements. Maybe there was a slight improvement…I should observe more closely.

  11. TD says:

I would be more interested in the Nivea “naturals” if they didn’t contain “parfum” (fragrance) which can contain a variety of unsavory chemicals.

  12. sesame says:

One thing I’m slightly confused is this listing with European brands because European regulations require that pure essential oil scents are listed as “Fragrance/Parfum”. So sometimes I’m not sure if they are synthetic or natural. But for this one, it smells synthetic to me.

  13. sisca says:

i like the smell of nivea roll on. eventhough now i’m using the one without parfume for sensitive skin. it works for me

  14. sesame says:

Nivea range of deodorant actually works pretty effectively.

  15. icha says:

Rexona has the same varian too. actually i don’t believe that Nivea or Rexona is really natural

  16. sesame says:

No, not natural but positioned as such as this new Nivea deodorant is free of parabens and aluminum salts.

  17. Rose says:

I like this but if only they’d switch to plastic instead of glass. I prefer roll-on over spray.

  18. Issa says:

oh, i hope nivea will have that here in the philippines too! i’d like to try it…..

  19. sesame says:

    Oh that’s a good point.

  20. sesame says:

Hope they’ll introduce it into your market.

  21. vla says:

I have just bought the same deodorant for the same reasons. I can bear the scent if it works properly. Let’s hope it does because I am sick of having to wash my t-shirts daily (and ruin them in a few months!) because of aluminium free-paraben free deodorants. The last one I’ve used was Laveras’ orangesea-thorn roll on. Its the best one I could find so far but not good enough!
I don’t know whether you’ve noticed it or whether it is available where you live- but there are two deodorant scents in this range. The other one is LOTUS. I chose jasmin because I preferred the scent, but I think lotus smelled milder. Perhaps you would prefer it!

  22. Sesame says:

I’m going to try out some new ones and hope they’ll work for me.
