UNE Natural Beauty Makeup from France

I picked these makeup products from UNE Natural Beauty while shopping at Lovelula recently. They’re a new makeup label boasting certified green credentials and are backed by the knowledge and expertise of French cosmetics brand Bourjois. Products from UNE are made from 98 to 100 per cent natural ingredients approved by ECOCERT. Because I have no idea if the new range will work well, I only bought their foundation, concealer and lip balm.

Their prices are rather affordable. I understand that they are available at Boots stores and website in UK. However, I didn’t buy from Boots but from Lovelula, which I’ve shopped at several times because I’ve found their shipping to be reasonable.

UNE Skin Matt Foundation 30ml M02 ~US$20

Ingredients: aqua (water), caprylic/capric triglyceride, dicaprylyl carbonate, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil*, aqua (water)*, silica, alcohol*, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, lauryl laurate, oryza sativa(rice) hull powder, polyglyceryl-2 dipolyhydroxystearate, hordeumvulgare extract*, microcrystalline cellulose, benzyl alcohol, sodiumstearoyl glutamate, glyceryl caprylate, parfum (fragrance), xanthangum, cellulose gum, tocopherol, glycine soja (soybean) oil, dehydroacetic acid, sodium phytate, potassium sorbate, sodiumbenzoate, sodium hydroxide, citric acid,[+/- (may contain) : ci 77019 (mica), ci 77007 (ultramarines), ci 77163(bismuth oxychloride), ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499 (iron oxides),ci 77891 (titanium dioxide)] * Ingredients from Organic Farming

This is described to be an 8-hour moisturising foundation that blends into the skin, for an imperceptible semi-matt finish. I got the lightest shade and that is M02. In terms of texture, this is a rather thick and creamy foundation. The coverage is medium and finishing is rather natural looking but the color comes across rather yellowish and dull on my skin as you can in the before and after pictures below. It is indeed of a matt finish but I found this foundation more drying than moisturizing on my skin. Let’s just say this isn’t the best liquid foundation I have used. Also, while the price appears to be affordable, the tube is rather small and thus, the product will be used up fairly quickly. UNE offers 10 shades of this foundation but LoveLula only carries 5 of them.

UNE Skin-Echo Concealer E02 ~ US$14

Ingredients: aqua (water), octyldodecyl myristate, glycerin, silica, galactoarabinan, chondrus crispus (carrageenan) extract, sucrosepalmitate, glyceryl caprylate, hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodiumacryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, squalane, potassium sorbate, glyceryl stearate, parfum (fragrance), sucrose laurate, sorbitol, polysorbate 60, glyceryl stearate citrate, mannan, sucrose, xanthangum, sucrose dilaurate, camellia sinensis leaf extract, sorbitanisostearate, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, sucrosetrilaurate, linalool, citronellol, citric acid,[+/- (may contain) : ci 77019 (mica), ci 77007 (ultramarines), ci 77163(bismuth oxychloride), ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499 (iron oxides),ci 77891 (titanium dioxide)]

I kind of like this concealer as the coverage is quite good for correcting small imperfections and it does not fade as quickly as some of the others I’ve tried. However, I disagree that it illuminates dark circles as I found the texture to be slightly thick and drying for my undereye area. I expect this concealer to last awhile as I don’t need to use too much of it each time. A total of 4 shades are available.

UNE Sheer Lips Balm S03 ~ US$13

bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cera alba (beeswax)*, olus (vegetable oil), hydrogenated palm kernel glycerides, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed wax, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, hydrogenated palm glycerides, hydrogenated vegetable oil, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter*, parfum (fragrance), tocopherol, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, mica, limonene, [+/- (may contain) : ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499 (iron oxides), ci 77891 (titanium dioxide), ci 77163 (bismuth oxychloride), ci 77742(manganese violet) * Ingredients from Organic Farming

Of all the three products, I probably like this best because it does what it promises – moisturizes and tints the lips with a subtle sheen. I believe this is what some of you call a ‘lip tint’? I like this because unlike using a lipstick, I can glide this on my lips without looking at a mirror anywhere, anytime. The only thing I don’t like about this product is that the shades are all rather dark. I’m guessing that it’s perhaps hard to have a lighter shades as those colors probably won’t show too well on the lips. There are a total of 8 shades but LoveLula only carries 4 of them.

Overall summary
So it also seems that I’m having more misses than hits with the natural/organic makeup that I’ve tried so far this year. I was quite excited over this new brand initially because I found their prices rather reasonable. However, it seems that their products don’t all work well for my skin. In addition, LoveLula doesn’t carry all the items and so there was also a limited choice for me. Well, if any of you have tried this range, do share you feedback.

I guess because most synthetic based cosmetics use ingredients that make the product generally glide smoothly and evenly on the skin, it’s a challenge to compare it to natural/mineral based ones. I’m reminded of when I first used the MVO face screen and I was disappointed coz I was so used to Jap sunscreen brands w/c use lots of silicones, another common ingredient in synthetic makeups. But yeah, i got used to it and started appreciating it because it’s one of the best in the bunch of natural ss. Proly it’s the same for makeup ? You just gotta find The One #k8SjZc9Dxk_#k8SjZc9Dxk

Sesame, we have the exact same set. I only like the lip balm/lipstick because the foundation and concealer was too light and didn’t suit my combination skin.

The current formulations of mineral/natural makeup in the Phils. still need a lot of work but I am still hopeful in their improvement.

In any case, my favorite mineral foundation to date is Pur Minerals which is 100% mineral makeup in compact form. I hope you get to try that too ?

  3. Vonvon says:

I have always seen this brand at Boots but rarely paid any attention to it. Guess the plain-ness of the packaging kind of didn’t really attract me.

  4. sesame says:

You’ve raised a good point regarding silicones…that’s something the usual brands of makeup have plenty of. The only 2 brands I’ve tried so far that look nice on me are Zuii Organics and Juice Beauty. Okay, mineral makeup I don’t count them in though.

  5. sesame says:

Okay, so I’m not alone in how I feel about the products. With the foundation, I find the color when applied on my skin, unappealing. The concealer is not bad for me though.

Never tried Pur Minerals. I use a customized blend from Lolita and liking it very much.

  6. sesame says:

Yeah…the white packaging is very plain.

Sorry, this comment is not exactly related to your post.

  9. N. says:

Yes like Ecobeauty mentioned. The lack of silicone makes it difficult for the natural formulated makeup to glide just as smooth. I bought a foundation on etsy and although the coverage is good enough for me it sticks to my dry spots.

  10. sesame says:

    Hmm…seems so. *sigh*

  11. sesame says:

I’ve seen that brand around. Will go look up that product you bought later. Looks interesting with that argan oil.

  12. N. says:

I was once interested in getting her products because of the Argan Oil but I changed my mind when I saw that almost (if not all) of her products contain silicone.

  13. sesame says:

I see…I’ve definitely read that brand around but not examined anything in the line.

  14. pf1123 says:

I think many makeup and skin care includes silicones. Cannot run away. If they don’t break me out, it’s ok. ?

  15. sally says:

hihi, do you have any findings on eyebag removal surgery? i would like to know more

  16. Carla says:

I tried UNE mineral foundation a while back and it gave me horrible breakouts!!! Plus, I think they’re not that cheap either, considering the small amounts…

    xoxoxoxoxo

  17. sesame says:

Oh it gave you breakouts? It was the powdered one? Thank goodness they didn’t have the color I want then. Yeah, you’re right that it’s not exactly cheap for the foundations if we factor in the size.
