I’ve run out of my own body wash and resorted to using my son’s A’kin PureBaby Softening Body Wash & Shampoo for now. Although I have used baby washes to cleanse myself before, I still get occasional nagging thoughts that they do not cleanse me quite as well as body washes formulated for adults. To prove that I’m just being a tad paranoid, I took out the ingredient lists of the A’kin baby body wash and a standard A’kin body wash to compare and here’s what they show.
Looking at the baby body wash
Here is the full ingredient list of the A’kin PureBaby Softening Body Wash & Shampoo:
After water, the next top five ingredients are surfactants – Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate in running order. Another surfactant, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, is also listed lower down the list.

Looking at the adult body wash
Here’s the ingredient list for the A’kin Orange Blossom Body Wash:
On the other hand, the standard A’kin Orange Blossom Body Wash for adults has five surfactants from what I can spot after water – Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, and Lauryl Glucoside. In fact, these surfactants are the same as the first five used in the baby wash, and they only differ in terms of percentage used.
Save some money by using baby body wash?
Hence, I’m actually doing quite well by using the A’kin pureBaby Softening Body Wash & Shampoo for myself instead of paying more for the A’kin Orange Blossom Body Wash formulated for adults! However, for about S$3 difference, I can enjoy more aromatherapy benefits with the latter considering the amount of essential oils used.

Good point! I still feel that females are being ripped off as compared to male and children, for almost the same product by the same company.
I recently bought L’oreal’s Strawberry Smoothie shampoo and J&J’s blueberry shampoo. Seriously roughly the same soap ingredients but with fabulous fragrance, only for $6 odd.
But have yet to try it. I just love children flavours!
Yeah, many of the baby and adult products have almost similar ingredients…they mostly just tweak the fragrance. But the adult ones would have a slightly longer list. Same for sunscreen.
Once, I bought an organic baby body wash for emergency and it was supposed to be hydrating and moisturizing. But instead, it dried my skin. I’m thinking that it’s probably because although it’s for dry skin, they didn’t formulate it with too much oils which will make it too heavy and hard to rinse for babies.
Oh that’s rather strange. I’ve used a few brands of baby wash for my child and even those full of synthetics are not drying. Hmm…guessing which brand…
I am also using A’kin shampoo and body wash now and I admit it’s nice^^ Mild and moisturizing. The surfactants in the ingredients are from botanical sources so I think it should not be harmful to our body??
The surfactants are all very mild according to most of the research data so should be fine.
Can we use this product on a newborn?
Yes, it’s designed for babies and should be fine.
Plz tell me some popular mall to buy A’kin pure baby bodywash and shampoo in Singapore? I have to ask my friend to buy and bring them to Vietnam. Thank alot
Get it from Guardian Pharmacy…available at the bigger outlets like at Suntec City and Nex.
Thankyou, Sesame
I’ve got Akin purebaby bodywash and shampoo. I love its flavour, but the bottle is smaller than I imagined
I didn’t see the shelf life on the bottle, only 12months after opening cap. Could you tell me how to check manufacture date and expiry date of this product?
Thankyou very much.
Hmm…I’ve got to check mine later. Can’t remember but they should have it on their packaging.
Have you check yours, Sesame? I cant see it on the bottle, and my friend threw all the paper boxes away
I was looking at my shampoo and there is a code but I’m not good at interpreting. I think one of the SA explained but I’ve forgotten. Maybe you can ask the SA next time you purchase. They must know.
