How I got rid of my back acne using a beetroot detox

I was a pimpled teenager growing up, and I had a terrible back full of acne scars. Ashamed by those scars, I always made sure to cover up whenever I was going out. I’ve tried many products that claimed to lighten scars, and for a period of time I even resorted to using my facial wash for my back. But as you guessed it, none of them worked. Yet, who knew my cure would come in the form of a peculiar looking little root vegetable known as beetroot.

What are beetroots good for
Beetroots have a long history of being beneficial to our health. They were often used externally as well as for consumption. This vegetable is known to have anticarcinogenic properties, rich in iron and especially good for those who are anemic; taken on a daily basis will control your blood pressure and lower your risks of heart diseases. It also contains sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and C. The best part of beetroot is that it is low in calories and has no fats, so people who are particular of calories will be able to take this on a daily basis.

Effects of beetroots on skin
Beetroots are anti-inflammatory and can be used to detoxify the liver to stimulate liver cells. This in turns help improve kidneys and bladder functions as well. When most of the toxins in your body are detoxified, it generally improves your skin and its overall appearance. Another function of beetroots is the increase in efficiency of oxygen intake by your red blood cells, improving your overall stamina and making you less fatigue. With all these benefits, your skin will benefit due to the ripple effect of the benefits it has on your body.

Ways to use beetroots for detox
The way I used beetroots was quite extreme, and that’s why I call it a detox. I would use an uncooked, medium sized one and make it into a juice using my blender and drink it first thing in the morning. I did that for two weeks, five times a week. It was around the second week that I noticed the scars on my back were gone. It wasn’t lesser or lighter, it was simply gone! I stopped taking beetroots after I found that my bowels started to get too watery, almost diarrhea-like. However, for those who have or had kidney stones, or any issues with the liver, it is advisable to get the opinions of your doctor to see if you are suitable to consume beetroots this regularly.

Impressive results
The only drawback about this detox was that my stools towards the end were diarrhea-like and so I wouldn’t recommend having this detox for too long. In fact, if your stools are watery before the two-week mark and you don’t think it’s normal, just stop. Apart from that, I was seriously very impressed with the results I got on my back and I intend to continue with this beetroot juice detox again in another one to two months’ time. Too bad I had no idea beetroots would have this fantastic effect or I would have taken a before and after photo of my back to show all of you.

  1. Thanks for another great article, Cassie! :D I’ll definitely try this soon, just in time for summer!

  2. Thanks for the info! I am still suffering from bacne after many many years..Somehow they got better after I spray my back with ACV + water, but they are not entirely gone. So, is beetroot good for curing bacne then, other than acne scars?

  3. It didn’t cause you to break out?

  4. Great article! I’ve read beets are also great to reduce blood pressure.

  5. Hi Cassie, great article. I’ve heard lots of good things about beetroot and I tried taking it previous but stopped as I don’t have my own juicer and was only buying my beetroot juice from the hawker center stall. I was wondering whether the beetroot you took was organic? Problem with root and tuber crops is that they absorb most of the heavy metals from the soil and the nasties from the fertilizers and pesticides. In fact, even though the beetroot might be grown organically (no chemical fertilizers and pesticides), they are still prone to contamination from the naturally occurring heavy metals within the soil. I guess that aside from possibly getting watery stools, that’s another good reason not to take it continuously over long periods of time.

  6. Beetroot is the best blood purifier. You can also use it to test whether you have enough HCl (hydrocholoric acid in your stomach), eat beet root or drink beet root juice , if your urine turns pink just after taking beet root, it means you have low HCL .

My mother’s cancer therapy started with drinking Breuss Juice (which contains organic beet root juice as the base, with a few other things).. for 42 days… the BReuss Juice therapy healed her artritis, eczema and vertigo (and this cure I can confidently claim).. I cannot claim it cure cancer, but it definitely cured my mother’s other chronic concerns..

her liver spots (on the face), which used to make her look so dark, has been reduced significantly…

I also tried Breuss Juice (beetroot juice) detox for 5 days, it reduced my cravings for coffee and sugar, and my face glowed pink for almost several months.. and just like Cassie, I didnt have bacne and face acne for months after that detox..

about the watery stool, I really didnt notice it much at that time, as we expected our stools to be watery during the therapy (as we take nothing but the juice and turmeric tea)… the healing crisis was almost negligible as we were also taking coffee enema twice daily at that time.. so the toxins are pulled out quite quickly…

again, please read in context (we did it because of my mother’s cancer)..now am more inspired to do it again.. as it can also be done for beauty’s sake :)

thanks Cassie for this inspiring article…

  7. I would love to try this, but I already have IBS and don’t know if I could deal with the diarrhea. I wonder if there’s a way to dilute it somehow and do a longer detox to get the benefits without the bowel side effects.

Thank you for posting this. It’s definitely something to read up on. My back acne has been a constant source of embarrassment since I was 14.

    • Honestly I’m not sure how to advise you on taking beetroots if you have IBS. Some articles on the internet suggests it is good for people with IBS, but because I used to suffer from IBS, I know how stressful it can get with watery stools. Personally, I usually like to trial and error and if it doesn’t work I’ll just stop eating it. But if you are afraid, you may want to consult an opinion of a doctor.

I also understand how embarrassing back acne can be. It has become a habit for me to cover up even though my back is cleared. I get insecure when a large amount of skin on my back is exposed. I hope you find the solution to clearing your back soon. :)

  8. hey Cassie…oh my gosh!! how did you manage to drink it, I tried but failed miserably!!! yes, the beetroot turns the stool red…its because of the color pigments and actually that’s not a serious issue but yes, taking it everyday might not be a good thing!! may be 2-3 times a week should also suffice.

  9. I’ve tried beetroot juice before. Ran to the toilet many times. lol. It really is like the king of fruits/veggies for detox. But I’m not sure about how it is good for those who are anemic I am anemic and I couldn’t take too much, it makes me a little sick since beetroots also reduce blood pressure.

  11. I ever saw some stalls in wet market selling them. But, I do not think they are organic. Neither are those sold in Sheng Siong supermarket. Where to buy organic ones in Singapore ?

  12. Hi! I have a terrible back now, full of acne marks as in all over my back. Its too dark. What was the condition of your acne before you took this drink ? Im hopeless

  13. Hi Cassie!

A quick question. Will this beetroot detox work for facial acne scars? Does it matter the location of acne scars/ PIH?

    Thanks!
    Sakina.
