Fluttering lashes: Dr. Hauschka Volumizing Mascara

After noticing the increase in eyelash fall out during the removal of my mascara, I have been on the lookout for a natural alternative of mascara that functions as well as the commercialized ones but without the harsh chemicals. I have tried a few organic brands of mascaras before and found them to be average and a little pricey for their less than stellar performance. But I think I may have finally found my holy grail of natural mascaras in Dr. Hauschka’s Volumizing Mascara.

About the brand
Dr. Hauschka adopts a holistic approach and that’s why all of their products are made based on the way the skin works along with focusing on the overall health of the skin by balancing and aiding its performance of natural functions without harsh and harmful ingredients. In that sense, all Dr. Hauschka’s products are certified natural and contain the highest quality plant and mineral ingredients. Each ingredient chosen has a particular effect on the skin and the way it interacts with other ingredients and their products are also free of artificial preservatives.

Ingredients

Has a bulky looking brush but doesn’t fail to deliver
The first time I opened this product, I was a little worried as the brush looked really bulky and I was afraid it wouldn’t be able to get into the corners of smaller lashes, or clump up on my lashes. But after using it, I find that those worries were unfounded; although the brush is big and bulky, it still managed to get into the smaller lashes on the outer corner of my eyes. It doesn’t clump that easily as long as I comb and wiggle it through my lashes when applying. However, this is a mascara that needs to be applied with care because when I put this on in a hurry or without extra care, it does clump and tends to get messy.

A natural mascara that lengthens and volumizes
Just as the name of the product suggests, this mascara does volumize my lashes noticeably in a natural way and lengthens it enough to look made up but not too much. This mascara is buildable if I want lashes that are more noticeable and at the same time, on days that I prefer a more subtle and natural look, this mascara is able to do so as well.

Smells of roses
This mascara has a scent of roses when opened and applied. It is a pleasant and not an overwhelming smell and this surprised me as I have never used any mascara that doesn’t smell of chemicals before. Those who are sensitive to scents will probably like this as the scent is rather subtle.

Easy to remove
Dr. Hauschka’s Volumizing Mascara is one of the easiest-to-remove mascara I’ve ever used. I use an oil based makeup remover and it comes off really easily without any trouble. But because it gets removed so easily, it is not waterproof or smudge-proof. As long as I avoid getting the mascara come in contact with water, it does just fine with little smudging at the end of the day – I have worn this mascara from 1pm to 9pm before I see any noticeable smudging.

Price and availability
I purchased this tube of mascara at the price of S$66 at Metro departmental store in Paragon. I don’t think I will be actively on the lookout for any other natural mascaras anymore because this product functions as well as a convention one for me. Although it smudges a wee bit after long hours of wearing, that is not a big issue for me because I really like how natural my lashes look when I use this mascara and will definitely purchase this again when it’s finished.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of before and after. Will keep that in mind for future cosmetic posts that would be helpful with pictures though. :)

I read that real purity mascara is also good and it’s definitely cheaper. Have you tried it?

Oh, would love to see the before and after photo, too. :)

I haven’t tried a natural mascara before because I wasn’t sure if they work. I like that it smells like roses.
