Beauty Lunchbox Ideas: pack your own beauty lunch box

Hands up those of you who lunch out almost daily! I’ve got mine up. Now, hands up those of you who are concerned about the quality of lunch you’re consuming daily! My hand is up too. Okay, let’s face it: lunch is not an easy affair if you’re thinking in terms of your beauty. Most of the time, you end up eating stuff that aren’t helping your skin or your body. So wanna join me in this challenge to pack your own beauty lunchbox at least once a week? I admit it’s not the simplest thing to do and so I thought we can inspire one another with some lunchbox ideas.

Easy-to-prepare beauty lunch boxes
At the moment, my lunchbox is limited to a salad. I mean, given the limited time I have each morning, I don’t have much choices as to the food I can prepare. But I’m trying to be creative and have been scouting for easy-to-prepare beauty lunchbox recipes. I call mine a beauty lunchbox because I include ingredients that are beneficial for my skin. Like this one. Leafy greens with cherry tomatoes, sweet potatoes, tuna chunks and an egg. I also bring an apple.

Beauty benefits of cherry tomato and sweet potato
Both cherry tomato and sweet potato are packed with large amounts of beta carotene, which is an antioxidant that can provide protection against UV damage. You don’t have to cook the tomatoes and as for the sweet potato, it just needs about 10 minutes of boiling.

Balanced meal of protein, healthy fats & fiber
The other ingredients like tuna chunks and egg are great source of protein. In addition, tuna is also a good source of omega-3 fats. Sometimes I add some ham. And the green lettuce and apple provide a good source of fiber too, which promotes a good digestive system that will bring benefits to a healthy, radiant skin.

Use a non-fattening dressing
I do add an Italian dressing to make my salad tasty. That’s definitely not fattening like a cream-based dressing. Oh, and with a salad, you need to ensure you can store it away in a fridge.

Looking for pretty lunch boxes
To inspire myself to pack my own beauty lunchbox frequently, I’m looking into getting some nice lunchboxes that’ll allow me to keep my food either chilled or warm. If you know where I can get my hands on pretty boxes that won’t cost me an arm and a leg, do let me know. I’m already thinking about those from Shinzi Katoh!

Over to you
So ladies, are you ready to take up this challenge? Is this something you’re inspired to do? And do you have any healthy beauty lunchbox ideas or recipes to share with me?

Hey good morning! I happened to prepare a lunchbox for myself today! Stir-fry broccoli with carrots, mushrooms & chicken meat, together with 1/2 cup of rice and some kimchi! Had all these prepared the night before and heated them up this morning! Wonder if I am compromising on the freshness of the food though. But hey, sometimes, I just get sick of eating at the kopitiam downstairs my office! Haha ?

i pack soba to work! i usually cook the noodles the night before and its good cos the dish is meant to be eaten cold anyway! i will usually prep cold tofu the night before as well. cool lunch for a hot day!

  4. Sesame says:

Oh wow, that sounds yummy! I always wanted to do that but was also concerned about the freshness. Anyway, beats eating the kopitam food for sure!

  5. Sesame says:

Ah…some of the stuff can be prepared the night before cos this is a salad. Only the boiled stuff needs to be prepared in the morning. Fruit salad is quite a good idea too.

  6. Sesame says:

Oh soba! Hmmm…sounds cool. May give it a try soon.

  7. Swati says:

Oh what a coincidence! I just got wraps and am going to prepare that tomorrow! For snacks, I stock prunes at work. Sometimes, an apple is my snack.

My brother is trying to eat healthier and packing his own lunch, I need to start doing that, I do but it’s not always the best food choices. Not bad! Just not always the healthiest. He works long shifts so to keep his oatmeal warm and his tea cool he bought a thermos:)

Alternatively googling thermos lunch bag should pop something up, that one there costs 10.99 USD (I don’t know what that translates to)

    Hope it helps

There was a time when I always prepared and cooked my food fresh…at work. LOL, yes. I requested my boss if I could buy a steamer and put it in the pantry. I usually prepared all my raw ingredients at home and steamed all of them in the office. I felt very healthy during that time ’cause all my food were fresh, lightly seasoned and steamed. That was when I suffered from acne last year, was forced to be hardworking. Now, I’m almost back to my old, unhealthy ways. Too busy ?

I’ve always had this habit! I stored my dressing ingredients at work though – I don’t like to fork out huge amounts of money for pre-made dressings. So a small bottle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil = cost savings. I just take a few tablespoons into an old jam jar, give it a vigorous shake there and then I pour it on my salads. It’s important to dress salads because the oils and acids help to make the nutrients within the fibre more digestible. ?

  12. Sesame says:

Oh balsamic vinegar and olive oil! That’s an idea! Thank you!

  13. Sesame says:

I see. That’s a good idea – to steam food at work. We have a microwave oven only and I don’t like microwave.

  14. Sesame says:

Oh the thermos lunch bag is cute!!! It’s not too bad translated in my currency but just that the shipping might not be so worth it when added on. I’ll see if I can find something similar here. ?

  15. kit says:

    hi sesame,..
i always wanted to do this but salad is always not filling enough for me ?
    i need rice or grain..

my fren usually boiled the egg the night before
then put the unpeeled egg into cool water and into the fridge..
and the next day she is ready to go..
your tuna chunks from the can? isnt sardine is better?

  16. Sesame says:

I usually add a potato or sweet potato…the latter is quite filling. As for tuna, well, I don’t fancy it much but it’s better than sardine for me (taste wise) and it’s also quite filling.

  17. Maylani says:

    Hi Sesame,

Im lucky to have a microwave to heat up my lunch…… steaming is always best, but not all offices are allowed to have this type of facility. Sometimes I roast a whole chicken in the oven, previously marinated with sea salt, pepper, ginger , fresh lemon, red wine and drizzle the chicken with olive oil. Then in anothert tray, I simple bake potatoes, previously chopped in small pieces, mix it with carrots and parsnips and then marinated it with garlic powder, sea salt,a dash of red wine, mix well, leave it in the oven until done and voila! then I prepare 2 lunchboxes ( for 2 days) and put the tights, each in 1 lunch box with the baked potatoes, I tend to eat straight away the wings as these came out crunchy from the oven! the breast side, as it is less juicy I keep it aside and keep for another time to make a chicken salad lunch with cucumber, tomatoes, cos salad and sliced mangos and avocado ( good for the skin) , it gives the breast chicken a flavourish taste, with a drizzle of olive oil and fresh lemon juice. this means that you have lunch for 4 days already and then the last day Friday, I eat something else.

  18. Sesame says:

Wow, baked chicken in the office! What luxury! I like your idea but I will only lunch one or two days in cos I like the bonding with colleagues over lunch too. We have an oven in the office but we only use it to warm up the food.

On a related thought, won’t your colleagues be distracted by the smell of your baked chicken? Haha…or maybe the pantry is too far away.

    Hi Sesame,

What a lovely surprise to see you’ve been packing lunches to work too. I’ve started #LunchboxMonday campaign to encourage more people to do so at http://www.lunchboxmonday.com

Some of the good containers I’ve come across so far:

    1. Tupperware soup mug – pours well, has handle, tight lid to avoid spilling
    2. Thermocafe flask – keep food warm for 6 hours, not too expensive, comes with a spoon
    3. Oasis collapsible container – can be flattened, affordable, comes with a spork
    4. Lock and lock – square container can fit sandwiches nicely
