Xmas gifts Share: what do you like to receive for Xmas?

Instead of doing the last minute thing, I’ve been accumulating some small items as Christmas gifts. These are items randomly selected like stationery, accessories and cosmetics. They’re really stocking fillers and I haven’t quite decided who to give them to or how I’m going to bundle them in the end. But I think they make safe gifts for ladies. Now I just have to figure out what to get for guys.

So picture yourself at the receiving end now. Tell me, what do you like to receive from someone who is not exactly close to you? And since we’re at it, what’s THE gift you’ll like to receive from someone close?

Personally, I like stationery – cute ones that is. I don’t mind cosmetics but they’ll have to be something I would use like a hand cream. And speaking about gifts, I received the strangest one in the mail recently – a magnifying mirror! It was certainly a scratch head moment when I first saw it and I was like – is that for me to check my pore size or what?

From someone I’m not so close to, I’m happy receiving candies/chocolates or random sweets, lol. Last year, a colleague gave away eggnog for Christmas and it made me so happy I couldn’t stop thanking her ’cause it’s a drink I truly missed.

From someone I’m close to, say, Hubby… well, a car or house is enough. LOL. Kidding, haha. Actually, I think I’ve reached a certain ‘phase’ in my life when I don’t expect anything from my family anymore. I just want them to be ‘here’ and take care of themselves so I can be with them for a long time. :)

Yeah, sounds like sweets/candies/chocolate are safe as gifts. Might just get that for the male colleague.

I am happy with almost anything! Even kiddy stuff like Hello Kitty or Pokemon. haha. I love stationery too, and a good one will always go down well for me.

Nowadays, I’d like beauty related items though. Or a good tea. Or wine. Good food, like sauces or good cooking oil.

I don’t really like people to give me jewellery though, as I don’t wear much jewellery, so it’d be a waste on me.

I love receiving cute stationeries too. Also I would like to receive shopping vouchers if the person really has no idea what to buy for me. For someone close, I would like to receive fragrance preferably Clarins ‘Eau Dynamisante’ which is my all-time favourite scent.

I got a plane ticket to visit my boyfriend at the other side of the world – he recently moved there to start a new job, so I consider that a fantastic present. But on the more material things I think personal electronics are the nicest gifts ever. A new hairdryer or something does the trick and really shows you care, at least that’s how I’d treat my female family members since it’s within my uni student budget. I got myself an epilator and realised how much I was loving it and put a mental note to get one for my sister. I’d consider getting presents that are *useful* in the coming year as top picks for Christmas gifts – getting my grandmother a new set of curlers, or a new set of spectacles, dentures, etc. These things are always needed and wished for but never outright asked for (she’s like that) and thus make excellent gifts.

My boyfriend once got me a dress for my birthday and it didn’t work out well … being a bit of a geek he got me some ‘high-tech fabric clothing’ rather than pretty, slinky, sleek fashion and understandably I wasn’t as excited as he was. He returned it and hasn’t ventured a gift of the same kind ;)

As for acquaintances I’m not too close but I give cookies :D

Wow a plane ticket to visit your bf sounds great! Enjoy your trip! And you’re so sweet to your granny…I’m sure she’ll appreciate whatever nice things you gift her cos it’s given with your love.

Good luck figuring out what to get for guys… hehee… I am done with shopping for females but for the guys… it is really a challenge. I know my brother will be happy with a box of Bak Kwa, though hehee… but that isn’t too festive. In all seriousness, I may get him that if I give up looking (“,)

Phone accessories? Coffee? Maybe a Starbucks tumbler? The tumblers usually come with a free coffee coupon.

The tumblers are a nice idea! I was contemplating phone accessories but haven’t found anything that call out to me to buy for anyone.

I’m happy to receive anything… it’s the thoughts that count. But I’d be most happy to receive anything science fiction related, geeky/nerdy stuff, electronics, sports stuff, or even voucher for any sports activity :)

True true…the thought that counts. But it’ll make me happier to receive something that works for me. Would sci-fic books do for you too?

      • says

I know what you mean, it does make it that much better if it works for you too :) Sci fi books work for me as well, but it’s really hard to know what to get for a person when it comes to books unless you know the person well enough to know what kind of writing the person prefers. I would read certain books by certain authors, but would think twice before having a go at others because of their style of writing :)

True…I never venture with books unless it’s Christian books. I think that’s safe with certain friends in my circle.
