Not all natural lipsticks are lead-free
Saturday, 13 October 2007Further to my earlier post about lead found in many leading brand name lipsticks, I’ll like to bring your attention to the list of lipsticks containing lead obtained from safecosmetics.org. If you think that all natural lipsticks are lead-free, take a look at this.
Do you see what I see here? What is Burt’s Bees lip shimmer doing on this list of lipsticks with detectable levels of lead, even if it is low at 0.1? This is contrary to their company’s values which promotes truly natural products are the most effective and safest to maximize our well-being. And the fact that we now know that lead-free lipstick is possible, this makes the information even more disturbing to me.

Does your lipstick contain lead?
Friday, 12 October 2007I was exasperated to read that many lipsticks manufactured in the United States and used daily by millions of women contain surprisingly high levels of lead. Considering lipstick is a makeup staple for us, this is simply alarming!
According to new product tests just released by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, 61% of the 33 brand-name lipsticks tested contained detectable levels of lead, with levels ranging from 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm). One-third of the tested lipsticks actually exceeded the FDA guideline for lead in candy, 0.1 ppm, established to reduce lead exposure among children.

Omega-3 Fish Oil for beauty inside out
Thursday, 6 September 2007I’ve not been eating my Omega-3 Fish Oil as regularly as before but today, after visiting Makeupalley, I quickly gulped down two. You see, Omega-3 Fish Oil was featured on today’s review with 70 reviewers raving about its benefits and giving it a rating of 4.8 out of 5.
Some of these reviewers have been taking fish oil for years while others have just started out but all of them are saying good things about taking this as a supplement and how it has helped them maintain beauty from inside out.

Avoid nano-based beauty products
Tuesday, 21 August 2007Just the other day I was looking at a sunblock with interest because the name contains the word nano. I was actually quite keen to get it but thank goodness I didn’t, especially now that I’ve read why we should avoid nano-sunscreens from Friends of the Earth.
Some manufacturers are adding nanoparticles-incredibly small particles of otherwise familiar sunscreen ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide-to products without letting customers know that they’re buying nano ingredients.

Cranberries for beauty and health
Tuesday, 14 August 2007If you’re fond of cranberries, you’re doing good because recent research indicates that they’re packed with plenty of beauty and health benefits.
First, it is widely known that cranberries are chock full of antioxidants that eliminate free radicals in the body reducing the risk of cellular damage. They’ve also been shown to prevent plaque formation on teeth and kill H. pylori bacteria, which can cause stomach cancers and ulcers.
And according to experts at the National Institutes of Health, cranberries have been shown to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women.
