DIY ingredients: β-glucan for skin renewal

I’m currently hooked on adding ingredients directly into my serum or using the ingredients directly on my skin. Current love includes capsules containing L-Ascorbic Acid, Glucosamine and Niacinamide from the Marie Veronique Organics Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin C Supplement. Although I don’t like the powdery residue left on my skin, but I have to say it is really performing. I’m almost done with the 60 capsules now and I see a mark improvement in my skin texture. Today, I’m going to bring your attention to another ingredient that I want to get my hands on – beta-glucan, a component extracted from oats that has multiple skin beneficial properties including moisturizing, wound healing, cell renewal, protection against UVA/UVB damage and reduction in hyperpigmentation.

What’s the difference with organic makeup?

Just the other day, I came across a comment left by a reader that she found little difference between organic makeup and the usual makeup. I had agreed with her partially because I have come across some with ingredients that didn’t seem that much different. However, if we look at the more established organic makeup brands that are certified, there is a noticeable difference. So today, I thought I’ll put up some comparison between organic makeup, mineral makeup and the usual conventional makeup. For this purpose, I’m going to compare one product and that is the face powder.

What kind of base is used in your skin care?

Hello VivaBellas! I’ll like you to do something here. Go and take a look at the ingredient list on your current skin care products. What’s the first item you see? Is it water? Aqua? Purified water? Deionized water? Or some exotic extracts? I just took a look at mine. Most of my favorites list a green tea and or white tea extract.

12 anti-inflammatory ingredients against UV

Early this month, I covered the best and safest sunscreen ingredients, and in that entry, I wrote about the effective ingredients that either reflect the UV rays or absorb the UV rays. While those ingredients are great to protect our skin against the sun, they can’t block out 100% of the UV rays. Hence, in choosing a sunscreen, it is important to also look for those containing anti-inflammatory ingredients that can prevent damage caused by the UV rays. Here is a list of 12 that I’ve come across or read about; the list is not meant to be exhaustive so feel free to add on in the comments section if you know of others.
