Avoiding the sun is good for skin but not for health

Many ladies are particular about being under the sun, mainly because they are afraid of developing premature wrinkles after long sun exposure for a period of time. And of course, for some, they are afraid of getting skin cancer. But these reasons and priorities can vary depending on which part of the world you are living in. One thing we can be sure of is, beauty companies are coming up with many different types of skin products that can provide sun protection and double up as another skin care function at the same time, making it easier for ladies to get more than sufficient sun protection. So the question for today is: are we getting enough sun for health’s sake?

DIY Beauty: making my own sun protection oil

I’ve been using a DIY sun protection oil for quite awhile now under my daily sunscreen moisturizer. It’s quite easy to make and essentially, you only need two ingredients. One is a carrier oil with some UV protection properties and another is Astaxanthin, which is a powerful antioxidant that also protects our skin against the sun when applied topically. It’s been working well for me although I have to say it does give my face an orangey hue if I don’t put on some sort of powder.

Original Sprout Face & Body Sunscreen SPF24+

I miss reviewing sunscreens and so when I saw that Original Sprout has a sunscreen containing zinc oxide, I jumped at the chance to try it. I have been using this mostly on my neck and hands since receiving it this along with the complimentary Original Sprout family-friendly products from Pout more than a month ago. I don’t really understand why it has an odd value to 24+ to its SPF but I’ll be discussing if the protection is sufficient based on the ingredients.

Avoid sun exposure one week before your menses

Do you keep a calendar of your menstrual cycle? I used to when I was younger; it was particularly useful when I was planning adventurous vacations because I normally avoid going for trips during that time of the month. It was really all for the sake of convenience and nothing related to my skin but now, there is a good reason to keep track of the cycle especially if you want to avoid pigmentation issues.
