Anthelios XL Stick for ultra sun protection

La Roche Posay Antheloios XL Stick Protection

The temperature has been reported to be as high as 30° C and the UV index is at 11 and that is an extreme UV status which calls for ultra UV protection of course!  Definitely an extremely good excuse to get the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Stick Protection SPF50+ I say.

Anyway, I was eyeing this protection stick for awhile but couldn’t find a reason to buy it until the 20% discount from GSS.  I was told that this broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 50 stick is good to protect the delicate eye area.  I had a look at the ingredients and was slightly dismayed to find that it contains Isopropyl Palmitate, which are fatty acids and derivatives that are known for their ability to clog pores.  So much for calling this a non-comedogenic product.

Protect the delicate undereye area and lips under hot sun
However, this is still better than using sunscreen on the eye area, which I sometimes resort to if I’m out in the pool under the hot sun.  I haven’t seen products that provide such high protection for the eyes and I guess it should be safe for short term usage as the undereye area has no oil glands anyway.   While it isn’t oily, I don’t intend to use it daily because I’m worried about developing milia seeds since it contains pore clogging ingredient.

Complete UVA and UVB protection
I think La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Stick SPF 50+ will probably be an asset when I’m out frolicking under the sun and I need to apply protection to anywhere on my face liberally.  In fact, it is also great to be used as a lip balm as well because of the balmy texture.   In addition, the UVA and UVB protection is complete with these active ingredients: Mexoryl SX (Ecamsule), Mexoryl XL (Drometrizole Trisiloxane), Titanium Dioxide and Octocrylene.

(Drometrizole Trisiloxane not officially in FDA monograph compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency. I added it here for reference only, with inputs from  Cosmetics Database.)

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Stick SPF 50+ cost S$19+ before discount.  Last point to add is that it is so small, like a lipstick, so you can practically bring it out with you anywhere!

Hey sesame, do you think the anthelios stick can be used as sun protection for the lips? I was wondering if the chemical sunscreen in the stick can be considered “edible”, since it’d be on our lips. Thanks!

Well, you can cos most of the lip balms with SPF comes with the chemical sunscreen ingredients. Anyway, lipsticks aren’t chemical free too. But this one leaves some whitecast if I remember correctly.
